I'd work for Bungie just for the perks, would you?
No, I prefer to work for money.

I need money to blow.

I work there as Sages beard groomer.

I sit on Sage's shoulders, beard in hand, and pick all of the bugs out of it.

The theory was that it would give us a player's-eye view of the credit system.

Result: "If my calculations are correct, it should take me.....Screw that, just give me the damn thing. Yeah I look awesome!"

You'd think so, but in fact we all started out playing Reach after release with nothing unlocked except the Bungie flames. The theory was that it would give us a player's-eye view of the credit system.

Clearly employees didn't play that "much" of Halo Reach then. Just sayin'

I run Skirmish!!!

I don't think you realize how much stress and long hours they probably go through to make these games...

Wake me, when you need me.

I don't think I would go to college just to work for Bungie so I could get free ingame stuff.

Also I'm now curious as to just how generous Bungie is with their 401k matching.

I take it that was not the case with Halo 3?

Also I'm now curious as to just how generous Bungie is with their 401k matching.
There is some 401k info that is publicly available that doesn't quite answer that question but does provide some insight.

For 2009 (most recent year available), Bungie's contribution (read: their match) was 72% of their employees' contributions, but having a ratio like that isn't meaningful because a lot of employees will only contribute up to what their employer will match, which causes that ratio to tend to 1:1 (assuming that the employer matches dollar-for-dollar up to a point, which is common and appears to be what Bungie does from their ratio).

The total employee contribution was about $1.13 million for 167 employees (average), which makes an average contribution of $6,766. That seems about average to me for a company like Bungie (read: skilled profession with good pay).

I'd like to tell you how they did in terms of investment return rate, but because the plan was new and growing very rapidly that calculation isn't very accurate. When I say growing rapidly, I mean the plan nearly tripled in size in 2008, despite the terrible market, and doubled in size during 2009, largely due to employees bringing over existing savings, I'd guess from whatever plan Bungie participated in when they were part of Microsoft.

What are we supposed to be discussing here?

"Nothing in the 'Verse can stop me."

Just for the perks? -blam!- no. How about working for them for the chance to work for a AAA gaming company? I'd rather that.

  • 09.22.2011 7:42 AM PDT

What's up with all the -blam!-ing negativity?
Stop it.

I'm currently trying to decide what to do in college and I would so do the video game design course if I thought I could get a place in Bungie. Its either that or aeronautical engineering anyway. :/

No. I'm fairly confident I would not sign a contract agreeing to give me a virtual armor permutation in a video game in exchange for years of service, with no money exchanged.

But think of how cool everybody that doesn't work there would think you were.

  • 09.22.2011 10:41 AM PDT

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

You're right! Because when Bungie takes over the world, you'll have saved time working your way into their upper ranks! And you won't have to try to beat out the world to be on their elite government team.

You're really onto something here. What was that about ceredits and helmets or something?

That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard! You would do all that schooling and preparation just to get in game perks?

That's really sad man. Rethink your priorities in life and your goals. You work for a company like Bungie if you enjoy making and playing games, bit for silly meaningless things like in game rare armor.

  • 09.24.2011 2:06 PM PDT

I've heard some pretty ridiculous stuff...

Why work for Bungie for perks of an old game, where more obtainable at a certain time anyway? You can't manage a full time job and pay for you're house with perks.

Hopefully that experience has encouraged you to abandon it for your new ip.

I think it sure as hell had a significant influence on their abandonment of the franchise as a whole.

Many think that working at Bungie is just for the perks...I am a little bit different. I want to work at Bungie because I want to create cool -blam!-. I want to make a game that I love to play and that does something fun and simple that nobody else thought to do with a game. Right now I am programming retro games because they were and are still very fun to play. Hell I bet nobody at Bungie has a higher score than me in Galaga! :D
(1,957,347 in case you were wondering) Working at Bungie, for me, would be like creating a game so kickass with an old school vibe, like creating a game that harkens back to the original games where your highscore decided whether you were "1337" or not and how many quarters you used to get there. I want Bungie to create an arcade game that uses quarters...that would be a fun game with vector graphics and -blam!-.

To me the perks would be the thing setting this job apart from any other. It would mean that you were part of a creation whereby in that society(gamers), you were respected for your job in a special way.
