Have A Nice Day!

Commander, CammCam's Queensguard; Sapphire Mod; 34th Seat, Table of Avalon(Exiled);Captain, HAND

yolo? -blam!- that! YOLTOSS!! You Only Live Twice or Some -blam!-

And how much does a publisher influence release dates, content, etc? I'm sure they would need to be happy about the product going out as well.

What is involved in getting a game certified? Who does the certification? ESRB?

Hi.

All I know is that they are going to have to work pretty damn hard to make a game as retarded as Reach.

I couldn't disagree more with your entire premise, and therefore your conclusion. Declaring that Bungie "rushed Reach" does not make it fact. The things you listed as "problems" are your opinions, not fact. I find Reach incredible in everyway and I certainly do not find Reach rushed.
It's not a matter of feeling rushed or opinion (besides my comment on the campaign). Reach was rushed. There are game performance issues, several bugs, and some balancing problems with a few things.

Especially for a game as ambitious as Halo Reach.

I didn't get it yet. Does Gears 3 have theater mode and file sharing now? Did they add a map editor? Did they finally bring balanced multiplayer or is it still "look at my chainsaw and shotgun that turn guys into chunks"? Did they give horde customizable weapons, enemy, and AI options like firefight?
I'm not comparing games. I'm saying that halo reach appears unfinished and rushed, where Gears 3 feels like a complete game. Epic delayed the initial release so they could have more time to perfect the game and the same cannot be said for Reach. Chillout fool. I just want bungies new game to suffer from being rushed..

Edit: ^wow I meant not suffer. Pardon me

I've been playing Reach since it came out, and I really don't see any major flaws or bugs that makes me think it was rushed. There is a difference between a bug and something you don't like. I hate waiting out armor lock kills, does that mean the game was rushed or broken? No, it just means I don't like waiting out armor lockers.

But I see nothing to say the game wasn't polished to AAA title standards before it was released. In fact, the lack of game killing glitches seems to suggest quite the opposite. I just don't buy your premise that Reach is unfinished or rushed, you'll have to sell me with some real facts on that case, rather than just telling me it was unfinished.

The amount of custom game glitches the game shipped with is astounding.. Not to mention forging glitches and then of course the hard drive issue with firefight and campaign and such. A few odd performance issues in campaign as well. I mean I never said they were gamebreaking. Reach is a great game. But it is stuff I didn't expect to have to suffer with, especially in the custom games and forging area.

The gauss hog is the only thing I can really think of really glitched in customs that aren't in MM, and finicky object rotation has been my only major annoyance in Forge. Considering how much forge has been improved since Halo 3, I don't see how that could possibly be considered rushed. (you really have to take into account that this is console editor, not a PC editor).

Being rushed isn't the only cause of being a bad game. The game was fine and I haven't seen any bugs or glitches that are just downright terrible. You're also talking vaguely so I have no idea what you're talking about.

If it was released later, the design issues it has would still be there, either by restriction on the platform or by developer error.

Bungie is one of the few studios left that makes their deadlines - and for that I commend them. Nothing pisses me off more than a game that gets delayed an extra year or two or 10.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the part where we don't even have a release date yet. (For that matter we don't have an announcement date yet, but that's beside the point.)

Instead of setting a date then delaying it, have you considered that they might be waiting to set things in stone until they're well on the way, and can actually come up with an appropriate schedule?

As Foman mentioned, they're been working on this thing for two years. From what I understand (from interviews) they started putting ideas to paper over four years ago, before Halo 3 had shipped. We're looking at what, at least another year on top of all that? If the game still sucks by then, another month or two wouldn't have helped.

True I suppose. But it would seem to me that delaying the launch of the game ensures that they have more time to rid of bugs, and perfect the game. Perhaps add more things or change things, etc. I can't see much of a negative from this.

There'd be no end to the polish phase. Every time you add or alter features, you introduce more bugs and imperfections, and exacerbate all of your existing issues. It's like saying you should aid healing and prevent scar tissue by picking at a scab. (Which is both unhealthy, and totally disgusting.)

Of course we could just add more and more developers, delay the launch of the game indefinitely, and sell our kidneys to fund the entire operation.

Delays are rarely implemented to extend the polish phase of software development. Typically, they're a result of one of two problems:

1. The game can't/won't pass certification
2. The planned release window has been slammed shut by a stronger competitor

Or you could just tell us all about your next game right?

I doubt that Reach was rushed, the mistakes that were made in this game were the result of a small handful of poor design decisions, not a time crunch.

I understand nothing because my life is a conspiracy.

I didn't think Reach was bad. Personally, I never noticed anything wrong until 343i stepped in, but they are new at this stuff. The campaign I though was excellent, since you actually lost a war in a FPS game. You felt depressed when a character died, even though you were never really introduced to them on a high personal level. The general flow of the game was fun (wish the Assault Rifle was a little better, though). The scenery was breathtaking and the graphics were amazing. They improved on face graphics a lot, too. The game did clash with the book canon, but people overreact to the condition of it. I mean come on, use your imagination/critical thinking. The game wasn't rushed, too. They worked on it for 3 years with ODST on the side. I think Bungie's next game will be outstanding, and none of their games has failed me yet. Stop hatin' on Reach, too.

Also, is there any confirmed date for weekly updates to return, Urk? I miss looking forward to Friday.

In the Gaming world they call me The Prodigy. My guess is because I spent my time helping every person with every problem rather they where my enemies or not. With that said I also ended up blowing the minds of everyone I met online. And in the real world if we are talking about Game development and computer skill. None the less I tend to present my self in a generally professional manner and I do not tolerate an annoying degree of Disrespect or high levels of ignorance.

Honestly I can't wait for the new game to come out.

Key

All I can say is Bungie has obtained the necessity to fit completely inside the monstrosity that is the footwear of Shaquille O'Neal (they have big shoes to fill). If this next game doesn't innovate; if it's just another run of the mill space shooter; if it doesn't bring a boat load of new things to the genre it's in... lots of people will be sorely disappointed and I'm afraid it may flop.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not denying it has the ability to do that, easily so. I'm just saying if It doesn't, I can see it possibly flopping, not gonna lie.

So it seems to me that Halo Reach was obviously rushed and incomplete, being released with several bugs and problems, balance issues, and overall performance issues, possibly even a lack of enough time for a decent Campaign (opinion, you decide).

So my question is do you think Bungie will rush their next game like they did so tragically with Reach?

I'm not the hugest Gears of War fan, but I remember hearing that the creators elongated the release date for Gears 3 so as to make for a better game instead of a rushed crappy sequel. I'd like to see devotion such as that for Bungie. Nobody likes halfassed stuff. Not that Reach was completely halfassed, but it definitely wasn't what it could have been.

He never said it was fact. In fact, he even admitted that some of what he was saying was his opinion.

Try not overreacting the next time someone criticizes a game you like, it kinda makes you look silly. The folks at Bungie are big boys who can handle and even learn from criticism, try to emulate them a bit more.

Bungie has a small dedicated team of experts on their side. Wile companies like 343i and Microsoft hold a large amount of employee's to get games out faster and make more delicious money (Nothing wrong with that). Personally, I don't believe Halo: Reach was rushed, and I don't believe Bungie will "Rush" their new IP. Bungie knows they'll have a community waiting for them when they release their new IP. There's no reason to rush.

Generalizations.
Helping idiots hate other idiots since people have existed.

Well, I disagree with all of you. I love Reach.

Maybe that's because I'm not spoiled rotten with video games and I didn't expect something perfect.
I just expected something fun, and that's what I got.

I believe this to be the opinion of many, although I have high hopes for it espicially for the genre that is supposedly is. Hey bungie, I don't believe in luck so have good random chance!
