I'm just here to check the meters.

And should we have a hand in the development? For instance should we be able to see the creation of Bungie's upcoming game through the entire process? See what type of features the game will have and be able to give our opinion on it? We could also make suggestions and give feedback?

smart, interesting, seems out of place.

Official fan of Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, (Problem with that?) Halo, and Bungie, also a total gaming junkie.

I don't care, I just want a Destiny beta!

I'm not saying I want this to happen rather just trying to find out what the communities opinion is on this. Also I'd like to know why a game's development is top secret?

I feel that we shouldn't have much of a say in the game at this point in the development. Let the people that work at this company do their jobs.

I'd rather leave game development to the experts in game development.

But in theory wouldn't a game built around player specifications be more desirable to players?

  • 09.22.2011 11:06 AM PDT

I spend too much time here.. too much time indeed.

Indeed. Let the experts do their job unassisted, or... let a bunch of indecisive gamers out for their own interests aid in the process? Tough call, but I think I'm going to let the men and women just do what their paid to do.

Hah. I'd like to see the jumbled mess that'd make.

Everyone's opinionated. You can't make a game that satisfies everyone or the game would never get finished. Trust me, I want to see it too...

Bungie makes games they want to play. Have a little faith.

I agree and that is why I made this topic. So why be so hush hush about developing your next game? It is copyrighted anyways right? What is the difference in finding out what the next game is going to be 3 years before launch instead of 1 year?

A lot can change in 3 years, what you see then may not be what you get at release. Time constraints, something not working as planned, many things can impact a game before release. Typically around a year before release the content should be set in stone and the work being done should be putting those final touches on it before the product goes gold.

Also there's the hype factor, keeping it quiet closer to release allows them to build the hype quicker and not have to keep it going as long before everyone is able to rush out and buy it.

See, e.g., Halo 2 E3 2004 Demo.

You guys have actually already had a huge impact on the new IP. We've done tons of work studying how people played Reach and that information has informed what we do next. It's not a simple or linear process, but every time you played Reach (or Halo 3, for that matter), you were contributing to our new project.

I assume this means profit-sharing.

Compromise. They knock a percentage off the regular price for anyone who's played Halo 3 and/or Reach. That should be fair, right?

That sounds promising. I still want to see the features while they're being developed, whether or not we have or say I don't really care.

For the love of all things merciful please tell me you aren't turning Destiny into a copy of Reach. That'd probably be the death of Bungie. Now if you make it like Halo 3, then sales would skyrocket.

I don't think he meant anything like that. Especially since their next game is allegedly a completely different genre. Allegedly. From an untrustworthy source.

“Strange,” mused the Director, as they turned away, “strange to think that even in Our Ford’s day most games were played without more apparatus than a ball or two and a few sticks and perhaps a bit of netting. imagine the folly of allowing people to play elaborate games which do nothing whatever to increase consumption.”

The Black Chapter!

The concept of wiki-project is an intriguing one. Bungie are the experts in the production of a game - making the engine, the logic, the environment, all that. But it would be very interesting to see what might happen if that production ability were harnessed by a crowd-brain. After all, I'd have thought that any of us is just as qualified as they are to say what we enjoy in a game.

I was once involved in a project where we were making a film along these lines. Probably about 10,000 of us. It fell through, for reasons that were never really established - the project had sufficient monetary backing from investors that it could have gone to the end. I would be very interested to see if something similar could get off the ground.

The main danger would be in setting up a massive Chinese Parliament, but if it were controlled from the outset to filter out the noise, I think that this sort of a project could potentially be hugely successful.
