It seems to me that Microsoft is following computer gaming dev in the sense of patch updates for consoles. Let me explain: Microsoft released various updates for Kinect and as such didnt release or plan to release a new next gen console for such updates. It seems to me that, with the exception of Nintendo, the console companies are leaning more towards patch updates instead of new consoles. With that reasoning in mind would gaming companies follow suit? Like if Bungie never created Halos 2-Reach and instead managed on updates. I know it is pratically impossible for that to happen, but could "Tiger, or Destiny" follow the patch update suit which instead of a successor you get an update for your game with new swag in it? DISCUSS! lol

I play for fun and armory completion. :)

It wouldn't make sense as a company to make their next game completely DLC.

I spend too much time here.. too much time indeed.

I tweet?

Games already do this, they're called MMORPGs. It's a fine model for that particular genre. I'm not saying Destiny will be an MMO, but if it turns out to be then I could see a similar content model being applied to it as well.

However, I assume any other genre will follow the regular sequel/prequel route.

Edit: grammar fix.

I understand that but my reasoning was based on Microsoft just updating Kinect instead of releasing a new system to have higher power and thus have the new Kinect features fleshed out more.

I know Bungie will most likely not use DLC updates whole heartedly instead of releasing a new game, but you wonder sometimes. I mean, many companies are releasing more DLC than games now so the market is stagnant. The only game I am looking forward to getting this holiday season is Halo CE: Anniversary. Not much in terms of new gaming...

Trying something once will increace your chances of success, because you tried it. Try someting twice, and your chances increase yet again - seeing as you've done it. Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

I would first like to say that I'm proud the current companies are attempting to extend the life of their consoles, for a couple reasons. Mainly because it's that much more of a chance that the next gen won't suffer from the amazing failure rate like the first few years of the current gen. It's also a great business strategy. Not only are they able to test the waters with potential technology for the next gen, they're also able to make a profit to continue experimenting with the technology.

Now, that aside....

I can't even imagine Bungie relying on updates, that's how hardcore they are. Just watching the Vidoc's you can see their immense passion. Relying on updates would kill that passion in a heartbeat. The only games I can see benefiting are games with yearly installments like sports games, or CoD.

We’re flawed because we want so much more. We’re ruined because we get these things and wish for what we had.

It sounds like your talking about episodic gaming which has just evolved into DLC, the short story for episodic gaming and why it didn't work out is "Half-Life".
