why did one needle rifle shot kill kat? What spartan turns off their shields in a combat zone? She deserved to die.

I'm fairly certain the Radiation flare Kat mentioned drained everyone's shields

True, but then we have the contradictions between the two sources so we would either completely ignore the book or the game :(

No, there's no contradiction. It just the book doesn't explain how Cortana is able to decipher the SO artifact. With Reach, we understand that the Cortana in the book at that point is the "complete" Cortana, with both "halves" united as a final whole.

they didn't call cheif the "last spartan" for nothing, but he did choose to stay, lets just see noble six as a soldier who fought for his people. on another note He was a spartan III. Chief is a spartan II,

Actually, yes they did. It's only on the box text of Halo: Combat Evolved that John-117 is ever referred to as "the last Spartan," I believe. That would make it less than canon.

The Covenant don't take prisoners.

What about Keyes?

As best we know, yes. There's also Kelly, Linda, Black Team and a few others that I'm probably forgetting.

Generalizations.
Helping idiots hate other idiots since people have existed.

The whole story of Reach is about noble sacrifices, like how Jorge sacrificed himself to destroy an entire covenant super-carrier.

It's good that you are upset by the ending; that means that you are sad that Six died.

Bungie succeeded in making a personal connection between the player and the character, which is key in good storytelling.

It has nothing to do with what i don't like. It's becaue of the huge conflicts Reach created.

@Jack

The book didn't explained that because that SWORD base artifact event never happened in Halo canon back in that time till 2010 with the release of Reach.

Cortana did saw similarities between the symbols and known star charts, that's how they jumped to Halo.

Or, an alternative solution, that event did happen, and is in the "Halo Bible," but it would not have fit within the storyline of the Fall of Reach because John-117 played no part in that storyline. FoR is told from mainly John's perspective (some of Cortana, Keyes, and a few techies,) and as such the previous knowledge of the actual battle is limited.

There is nothing in canon contradicting the Sword Base event, and in fact it helps to compliment previously established canon.

well duh its obvious covenant are killers and don't take prisoners. and besides Six had to defend reach so he sacrificed himself to help save reach from it's violent downfall against the covenant

  • 10.02.2011 5:05 PM PDT

Cause emile sucked and six had to do his job for him lol
jk thats just the way things have to be for everything to make sense

  • 10.02.2011 6:00 PM PDT

did you skip the ending after you died in 'lone wolf'? if you go back and die you will see how the elites kill him with their favourite weapon.....

  • 10.02.2011 6:01 PM PDT

How did he die?

  • 10.02.2011 6:03 PM PDT

Retreat isn't in the Spartan vocabulary.

It is "advance backwards".

  • 10.03.2011 4:21 AM PDT

Yeah Noble 6 lived, and you know what while we're at it he saved Reach. Happy endings for everybody.

My question is why does everyone seem to think Six either survived or should have survived; am I the only one who liked having a tragic ending where, for once, the hero doesn't beat the impossible odds and escape?
Honestly? Yeah I much prefer it that way, it makes him/her seem more human than an invincible suit of armor.

In the words of Kat,"In Soviet Russia, bad guys get the happy ending." And the fact that the Covenant almost never takes prisoners except in special circumstances. And last but not least, How could Noble 6 have gotten away? There was no transport and SHE was surrounded. (Yes, I play with my Noble 6 as a female)

She/He could have easily escaped. I EMP banshees all the time on that level but you cannot get in them. If i did. I would have escaped. Also i boarded a wraith, killed the occupant sbut died mysteriously by some magical death barrier that wouldn't be there in real life so He/She could have easily escaped. They just didn't want to continue the story of Noble six.
