I play for fun and armory completion. :)

I think in some part that the censoring is supposed to prevent the discussion of these topics. Yes, it is possible to have a legitimate conversation about homo-blam!-ity and whatnot, but it is likely to degrade into something similar to a flame war or simple insults. There are times when censored words clearly have a valid use, but the times when they don't exceed this number.

The point of the profanity filter is that people end up NOT SEEING those words. The profanity filter catches the word, and censors it out in the best way the web team sees fit (-blam!-). If we let people curse and then ban them for cursing, there would be just as many threads (if not, more) about how "If you don't want us to use them, just censor us" as there would be "Why is everything CENSORED?!?!??!".

The web team has obviously hand selected a group of words they deem not suitable for the community at large and/or that they simply don't want gracing the presence of their beautiful forums; adulterating them and otherwise making it a less fun place to be.

If you have a problem with this conclusion that they have come to, well, I hate to be "that guy", but, tough luck.

Also... are you suggesting that first word you used should not be censored? Cause if so... ... ... ...lolwut?

Also, I'm confused as to why you can say douche and not -blam!-. Probably because douche has another meaning and -blam!- is just... well... -blam!-. But still, they're equally offensive in their own rights.

I spend too much time here.. too much time indeed.

I tweet?

Ha, no. Achronos said that the forums pretty much use the base word filter that Microsoft uses. If I indeed remember correctly.

With that said, I welcome the banning of any word that's context can be used in a derisive, mean, or otherwise hurtful manner. I welcome our -blam!- filled future!

I have a hard time believing Microsoft censors -blam!- and not douche. :P Not discrediting your post, but still... weird logic is weird.

Shut up you Jew.

Do you see what I did? I used the word "Jew" in a hurtful and derisive manner. Therefore, "Jew" should be censored.
Shuttup you filthy American.

Do you see what I did? I used the word "American" in a hurtful and derisive manner. Therefore, "American" should be censored.

Exactly. Just because something CAN be used in a hurtful and derisive manner doesn't mean it should be censored.
I was satirizing your ridiculous example. That's obviously not the way in which they go about censoring words, and to think this is foolish.

No, censorship's only purpose is to white-wash language so smug -blam!-s with vaunted ideals and great insecurities don't have to visibly confront emotional states and topics they aren't comfortable with.

It's a form of power consolidation, nothing more, which is why it centers around removing from use "profane slurs" (ie. lower class jargon) as opposed to the much more vile language of the board-room or the senate house.

Yeah, but Jew being a follower of Judaism, is religious, and religious discussion on the forums are classed unacceptable. American is just a classification for someones country. Different things. Jew shouldn't be allowed if N-azi isn't.

^^Probably the most philosophical explanation for the censoring of the f-word I've ever heard.

I understand nothing because my life is a conspiracy.

They should have an "Uncensored button," for those willing to travel into the unknown.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

I don't want to see those words on these forums. They're offensive you know.

I think it should be the opposite, expose people to that kind of language and let them judge for themselves, then give them a "censor button". Stop sheltering the world!

I prefer they censor the words. The internet is immature enough as it is. It is their site and they can do with it as they please.

Life is like a clogged toilet. It's full of crap until you do something about it.

I thought you had to type out "blam!" for every bad word.

-blam!-!

It is understandable to censor swearing, but to censor other words such as g@y, t@mpon, s3xual, and other harmless words is just silly.
How is censoring 'same-sex person' "harmless"?
