It's all theories, but you cant claim him to be dead unless there is evidence.

Sure I can. It's easy. But hey, if you want to believe he got off or survived Reach with a Covenant army surrounding CASTLE Base and 700 Covenant ships surrounding the planet, be my guest. Shows the side of logic you're on, the illogical side.

Halsey, Fred, and Linda escaped CASTLE base. Jun could have as well. Read my previous post.

Hey, if you want to assume John-117 destroyed Installation 04 while surrounded by hundreds of thousands of Covenant, dozens of Covenant Super-carriers, millions of flood spores, and countless Forerunner Sentinels, be my guest. Shows the side of logic you're on, the illogical side. *Troll Face*

Well the Pillar of Autumn escaped, didn't it?

And you guys seem to forget one key thing. The Pillar of Autumn had an exit window and yet they still got tailed by the Covenant. You expect me to believe any other UNSC ship trying to flee wouldn't get tailed? Halsey, Kelly, Fred and the others escaped Reach weeks later when there weren't as many Covenant ships on a stolen Covenant ship.

Halsey and Jun arrived at CASTLE at the height of the Covenant invasion. And we know Jun doesn't get off Reach after the fact with Halsey. But hey, I have yet to see anyone come up with a feasible way for Jun to live given the circumstances.

Read Halo: First Strike. To summarize,

Halsey meets up with other Spartans at Castle Base. They get attacked, retreat underground. John blows up Installation 04 and rescues them. John, Halsey, Fred, Linda, and others escape Reach as the covenant glass it.

Jun was ordered to escort Halsey to Castle base. He would have been with her at Castle Base.

He would have likely escaped with them underground, and would have likely still been with them when John rescued them.

And yet the Definitive Edition of First Strike makes no mention of Jun at all and this edition was released AFTER Halo: Reach. And since 343 said they have no plans for Jun, his fate is effectively dead.

You and me both know it's perfectly possible Jun could have survived, hidden in some secret base or who knows what. And even more since he's a ranger/scout, expert in evasion and stealth.

Oh, and dont worry, I do belive Jun is dead. Logic would say so. But I'm just saying that without hard evidence, we cant say he his 100% dead either.

He certainly wouldn't survive in CASTLE Base as it was SWARMING with Covenant outside before John arrived and inside after he arrived. Sorry, but it isn't perfectly possible. Remember what happened to the citizens of Kholo inside their bunker when the Covenant glassed the planet? They all died and the Shipmaster of The Return found their bones.

But hey, instead of getting off the hellscape of Reach, just hide in a bunker for 30 years with very little to forage or hunt for food and gather for water.

First Strike was released in 2003, of course it's not going to mention Jun.

The 2010 definitive edition only edited very minor things to match minor canon, they wouldn't bother to add in another main character.

Plus, Bungie says that Jun is alive in the commentary of the Legendary Edition of Halo: Reach.

Personally, I think he escorted Halsey to Castle Base, assisted her and other Spartans in Castle Base's destruction, and escaped with them.

First off, all of Reach wasent glassed. And from what we've seen from the game, there were still thousands of square kilometers of terrain left untouched by the Covenant bombardment. In the novels point of view, the surrounding area of Menachite Mountain wasent glassed.

It dosent have to be CASTLE base. There are bound to be many hidden outpost/bases where other UNSC forces that were unable to escape planet could have survived, a natural fallback point. As long as they did not call the Covenants attetion, they would remain undetected.

And right after that they said the next Halo game stars Halsey and Jun's offspring, and they do so without a chuckle. And now that 343 is in charge and they haven't said whether Jun is alive or not, Bungie's claim has no relevance now.

And as for the 2010 Edition of FS, it still says the Definitive Edition, which I still think is just there to make another quick money grab, there is no mention of Jun. All 343 had to do was make a single reference and all of this would've been over. But no, they are too lazy to just end this debate.

Well, I agree to disagree. Jun would have escorted her to Castle Base and participated in Operation: WHITE GLOVE. I think he would have accompanied them into the tunnels, and then escaped with them and John-117.

  • 09.25.2011 11:53 AM PDT

Jun locks his armor, and then after reach explodes, he keeps his armor locked and flies over to onyx right before it turns into the dyson spear where he joins forces with the onyx sentinals to fight the Nelkrons who are an ancient enemy of the fore-runners, but were eventually defeated and all trapped inside a giant prison until the halo array fired which freed them.

The nelkrons are biomechanical life forms with the power to convert energy to matter and matter to enercy at will. They are able to mutate any way they want, but their appearance generally esembles a mechanical humanoid with a birdlike head. Somewhat similar to the myrs from magic the gathering.

My mistake on that part, =P

Either way though, there statement carries little relevance now since 343 is in charge and they've put his fate in limbo. And seriously, what you think Jun does would totally conflict with canon.

The only way to find out what truly happened is if 343i make Fist full of Arrows canon once it's complete(Which I heard that 343i talked with Leviathan about that), Fall of Reach or First Strike is updated to fit with the game, or 343i announces he died somehow. Those are the only logical reasons.

I would be interesting to see Jun appear in First Strike, or see his death in Fall of Reach. Fall of Reach could very well be updated with a new chapter(Fist full of Arrows) to portray his death and Halsey's safety. 343i needs to hurry this up. Probably sometime after CEA.

Whatever the number, it's still a lot of ships. It's still pretty illogical to assume an evac ship would survive such firepower.

Her journal ended before she left SWORD Base. The escort in question was Sheila during the Battle Of Miridem in 2544.
