Subject: Are the halo 3 servers getting taken down?

Halo games made by Bungie are NOT played on servers.
Um... what? Every game on Xbox Live is based off of their own servers. Halo 3 and Halo: Reach are no exceptions. And games can have their own servers taken off without shutting down Xbox Live. It has been done before.

That said... no, thread maker, Halo 3 isn't going anywhere.

RIP Halo 2: November 9, 2004-May 10, 2010
I was the 2nd to last person to get kicked off Halo 2, see the thread Here

Halo 3 is not going anywhere, anytime soon. I think the reason there is so much paranoia is because of the Halo 2 servers being shut down. People need to realize that there was a reason the Halo 2 servers were shut down, because XBL stopped supporting Xbox-original games. Halo 3 obviously can not be shut down for that reason, so there's nothing to worry about.

mabye in 2012 because of halo 4 but not for a while no need to worry

I've yet to see a game without dedicated servers get shut down.

Nope, there is no reason to take down Halo 3's support. Its still in the top 20 most played XBL games (Maybe 10, can't remember).

If Halo 2 was released for Xbox 360 instead of the original Xbox, it would still be online. It just cost too much money (and supposedly "limited on what they could do for XBL on the 360") for Microsoft to keep online.

On xbox live, Army of Two, Battlefield 2: Modern Combat, Skate and Chrome Hounds just to name a few. EA kinda does it semi-frequently now.

Still, it's pretty unlikely that Halo 3 will have it's servers shut down considering it's still one of the most played games on xbox live. Microsoft has no reason to shut down the servers.

Someone said that on the release of Halo: CE Anniversary the servers were going down but I can't see it happening until next year.

Halo 3 server is on the same server reach is on. Where do these ppl get this garbage information from ... Halo 3 isn't going down ever as long as xbl for the 360 is up.

Someone said it would be going down September 25th, 2010. Someone said it would be going down January 1st, 2011. Someone said it would be going down July 7th, 2011. Someone said it would be going down September 14th, 2011. Someone said it would be going down September 24th, 2011. Someone said it would be going down September 25th, 2011.

And every time they say that the source is someone's friend/uncle/cousin/brother that works or knows someone that works at Microsoft/Bungie/343.

If it isn't announced on 343's website, don't even acknowledge it as a possibility. Anyone who does talk about such things like they're going to happen should probably get banned for posting false information. There's no truth to any of those things.

No more dedicated than any other game. The servers host the match making process, but they select players to host those matches.

Exactly. Halo 3 will be online as long as Xbox LIVE supports Xbox 360 titles.

Naw dawg. That's not how dedicated servers work. You just described peer-to-peer hosting.

I play games for gameplay, not silly gimmicks

H3 MM warrior

Reach S7, 8 and 9 arena warrior.

H4 MM legend

They cannot take it off live without taking reach off live as well, along with all the other 360 games.

The reason madden games can be taken off is because EA makes their own servers, independent of microsoft and the default 360 servers.

Both reach and H3, along with 100s of other games rely on those servers, and would all have to be removed if one server was shut down.

So how come Halo 3 and Halo: Reach have both been taken off for hours at a time, exclusively, because the servers had to be shut down for maintenance?

It hasn't happened nearly as often with Reach yet, but it happened a good number of times with Halo 3.

I feel fantastic and I'm, still alive.
While you're dying I'll be, still alive.
And when you're dead I'll be, still alive.
Still Alive.
Still Alive.

It is completely unacceptable to sell a retail game to a customer without it supporting all the features it says it does on the back. If they took the servers down they'd have to cut the price down because charging for half a game is ridiculous. The only reason Halo 2's servers were taken down is because that was last gen and Microsoft stopped supporting those games. Live on Halo 3 will be available well in 2015, or when ever the next console comes out. Even then it will still be online for a few more years.
