For H2, you use a capture card or if your TV has VHS or DVD recorder you can use that I think.

I use a Hauppauge USB ($50) but there's no editing program with it. I record with Vegas 7 so I use that editing program. My cc is actually a USB TV tuner that records.

Here's a sample:

The guy that did Halo 2 segmented SLASO (Mr Monopoli) uses a Dazzle and it's pretty good quality.

Heck, if you don't mind lower quality I can hook you to a cc for less than $15. Not terrible quality, just not the best.

Well, I looked on Ebay and they aren't terribly expensive, but it says it needs a sound card to capture audio, and it also says "could capture audio without sound card". whats that about?

Yeah, it's knockoff USB card from China but the quality is better than I thought. I have one but I use my Hauppauge because it records in HD and the knockoff does not.

I know all about easily accessible.

Windows Live Movie Maker makes an excellent quality retaining video editor. But it loads previews too slow.

Windows Movie Maker for Windows Vista is easy to get for Windows 7 (just do a google search) but I've encountered the unresponsive thing. Probably should have run in compatibility mode. Anyways, if you don't like WLMM, use this.

AVS video editor (my former preferred editing program and it's free save for a watermark) has a better speed modifier (in that it doesn't mute the sounds) and doesn't become unresponsive but it doesn't retain quality very well. However, AVS video remaker allows you to make video clips (like in Halo 3) while retaining quality.

VirtualDub + Koepi's Xvid Codec allows for reduced file size but only for AVI files (but I think there's one for mpeg). It also allows you to merge the videos.

As for video capture, I use a One Touch Video Capture device which uses EzGrabber software. I don't think it can run for more than 1 hour but the new one that I got is a newer version and seems to run more smoothly so I think the problem is mostly non-existent.

Finally, if you have Halo 2 for Vista, use the Xvid Codec with Fraps (the others aren't very good in quality).

Yeah, good info.

WMM doesn't make it for me anymore. The quality from Windows Live Movie Maker is a lot better than WMM. What I do is record using Vegas 7 with my cc and put it in WLMM to edit.

Thanks.

So WLMM retains quality from even top notch video editors? I must check out this Vegas 7.

You can dl a trial and if you like it, PM me at jumpers and I'll help you out. Be sure to dl Vegas 7 or else I can't help with the purchase.

Edit: now that I think about it you might really like Vegas, it's pretty much top of the line. The reason I don't edit with it is because of the learning curve, it's a deep program, very complex and I didn't want to spend the time. As fast as you learn it might suit you but you really have to dig deep to understand all the complexities.

This one right?

You know how it is with me. I pick something, I stick with it and then I make my way section by section. But if it's too difficult, I either skip it, look it up, or just call it quits.
