I know all about easily accessible.
Windows Live Movie Maker makes an excellent quality retaining video editor. But it loads previews too slow.
Windows Movie Maker for Windows Vista is easy to get for Windows 7 (just do a google search) but I've encountered the unresponsive thing. Probably should have run in compatibility mode. Anyways, if you don't like WLMM, use this.
AVS video editor (my former preferred editing program and it's free save for a watermark) has a better speed modifier (in that it doesn't mute the sounds) and doesn't become unresponsive but it doesn't retain quality very well. However, AVS video remaker allows you to make video clips (like in Halo 3) while retaining quality.
VirtualDub + Koepi's Xvid Codec allows for reduced file size but only for AVI files (but I think there's one for mpeg). It also allows you to merge the videos.
As for video capture, I use a One Touch Video Capture device which uses EzGrabber software. I don't think it can run for more than 1 hour but the new one that I got is a newer version and seems to run more smoothly so I think the problem is mostly non-existent.
Finally, if you have Halo 2 for Vista, use the Xvid Codec with Fraps (the others aren't very good in quality).Yeah, good info.
WMM doesn't make it for me anymore. The quality from Windows Live Movie Maker is a lot better than WMM. What I do is record using Vegas 7 with my cc and put it in WLMM to edit.
