Subject: Why is political discussion prohibited?

t4R.

I just figured with all the presidential debates and stuff going on, we could get some well reasoned political discussion. However, Achronos clearly says it is prohibited. Why?

Because people can't remain civil. There are private groups dedicated to discussions like this. The Black Chapter being one of them. Also, you'll get more mature people there that actually want to discuss topics instead of just flame people.

No, I do not want to join your clan/group.

Political discussions tend to be very volatile because of opposing views. No matter how civil a discussion may start, it will invariably end with rage, hatred, name-calling, and personal attacks due to differing views/opinions.

In short people just aren't mature enough to handle it.

Political (and religious) discussions on the internet are almost never civilized, so instead of waiting for the discussions to get out of hand and carpet banning, they just prohibit political discussions.

Guys, guys, thanks for the logical responses, but don't turn this into a political debate. That was not the original intent of this thread.

He's joking, and proving the point that political discussion doesn't end well.

Because those can turn into debates and in-which can get pretty heavy and filled with hate toward other Users. The same stands for Religion as well.

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

Political and religious threads always lead to someone getting upset or angry. It just isn't right for the fun, light-heartedness of the forums.

I believe it is because that in a political discusion there is no right answer and they tend to not only become heated, but sometimes offensive.

I remember a thread about this a while back with Duardo and such explaining such reasons.

Because people are going to create -blam!-storms here. It would be a huge mess to clean up and it would look ugly. I've seen it before. Blanket bans happen because of the -blam!-storm created thanks to politics.

It only takes a simple question to change everything.

A large portion of the community can't discuss a video game in a civil manner. Imagine what would happen if they discussed politics.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

Pretty much what everyone has already said. And this isn't just theory. We've seen it happen thousands of times over the years. This community just can't discuss politics or religion without losing their ability to remain civil, or avoid trolling.

While the odd political thread may come along and not be instantly stupid, the overwhelming majority are instantly stupid. I think Bungie just doesn't want to bother to deal with the proven ramifications that those kinds of threads garner. Also, its just Bungie's boards. There are literally millions of other places everyone can go to discuss politics or religion or whatever else they want. Its simply not worth the trouble for the off topic board.

meh...

Though people of opposite political views can have logical debates and discussions, it's the internet. there is no such thing as logic and civility on the internet
