Why does Halo PC need all these high requirements?

Xbox is only a P3 733Mhz with 64MB Ram and a Graphics Chip inbetween a Geforce 3 and 4.

It barely runs on my FX 5200 whereas UT2k4 runs more or less fine on it?? I can appreciate Pixel shader 2.0. Plus I have heard of people running Geforce 2's and it is playing better than mine??

Yeah, it's because Gear Box screwed up the port from the Xbox to PC. See, people can optimize console games to the highest capabilities because everybody will be playing on the same console. Not true with computers.

Halo PC port incorporated the latest graphics technology at the time it was released. So your card has to be able handle the newer shaders and such to see the eye candy. In addition the 5000 series sucked. I've heard more wailing about that line of cards esp. with FPS's.

At any rate try lowering or turning off some of the video effects. You can also add -use11 at the end of your command line to force Halo to use 1.1 shader instead of the 2.0.

P.S. The Halo PC port was not done well.

Yeah I have Shadows off, Textures Low, That adds luster to object thing off and all at 640X480 @ 72Hz Refresh. Still averaging around 26 FPS. Not Good.

I use that -use11 and it makes hardly any difference. Though I have heard that Nvidia optimized a driver for the game 52.??.

While it's true that Gearbox did screw up the port for Halo and gave it bloated code and whatnot, keep in mind also that the Xbox is a computer dedicated for gaming. While it's not nearly as powerful, there aren't any other apps cluttering the computer when it's running a game. In other words, a computer (without OC or mods) using the exact same specs as the Xbox will likely run the game slower than the computer.

But mostly, it's the port.

Yes, it's the port. However, I'd rather use a computer than the Xbox.

It's because GearBox blew it big time on Halo PC. They didn't spend any time optimizing it to run well. That's why Halo 2 PC is being ported by Microsoft and Bungie, they're never going to let Gearbox do a port again.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to a decent port for H2PC, since as Johnny Orcface said it's going to be done by Bungie.
