Posted by: dazarobboI don't think anyone has suggested that someone should go onto facebook for a friends list. Most people are in favor of a friends list, in fact.

Also, there's lots of thing already on BNet that aren't based around discussion, so your satire on it only being about discussion is off too.

Despite the above points, I get what you're saying. New features like the one in the OP would be really cool and we definitely shouldn't discredit them before any sort of test is done with them just because they're used on another site.

TL;DR: Good post, despite personal discrepancies I may have had.

You imply a level of control over Halo: Reach matchmaking that we no longer have. Or, in your vernacular, it isn't our shiznit anymore.

No.

We can't have anything convenient like that because similar features exist on Facebook (a known social networking site), it would be abused, and it doesn't promote or encourage discussion at all (because bungie.net isn't "about" anything else - only discussion).

Besides, why can't you just add every user on Bungie.net to your friends list on Facebook and get them to post on there when they make a reply to you here? Or simply open up your recent posts and then look through every page of every topic you've posted in?

Stop wasting the Web Team's time by trying to turn Bungie.net into a giraffe by suggesting my CD drive is a flying purple people-eater.
I do hope that was sarcasm.
Actually it sounds more like a programmed response. That is almost word for word what Achronos told me about this matter a year or two ago.
Almost all the site mods and Ninja's post the same "we don't want to be like Facebook or other social networking site" argument. Can someone explain to me how it would be abused without breaking the current forum rules and how being notified when to continue discussion doesn't actually promote discussion? I completely agree that we shouldn't have anything that resembles a "like" or "vote up" button, but would having a friends list and/or notification system do more harm than good? I know plenty of gaming forums with a community larger or the same size as Bungie's with successful notifications systems.

dazarobbo's entire post was completely sarcastic (this is backed by my 99% assurance on the situation and my experience as a professional sarcstificator). He, most mods (from what I've seen), along with Acky (from a debate of sorts I had with him) seem to be in favor of the socialization of BNet and its features therein.

There's also that little reason of effort. Just tell me when they have enough time to work on this sort of thing while they are all no doubt working on the next ground breaking, Killer APP, videogame?

Case and point: don't worry about it. Girls start getting boobies pretty soon, and then you'll have plenty of other things to think about. Being an Inheritor is not a life goal.

Why can't you just keep your tab open with your thread?
I don't see why bungie.net needs notifications.

I have a feeling the forums will be getting a complete makeover at some point between now and the release of Bungie's next project, and I'd be willing to bet that a notification system will be included.

Who said it had to look like Facebook? Because I'm not seeing anyone...
Abused? By us? Nah, your crazy... ;D

Besides, why can't you just add every user on Bungie.net to your friends list on Facebook and get them to post on there when they make a reply to you here?
Because some people only want 2 browsers open: one with Bungie.net, and one with YouTube. Plus, some people are just to lazy...

Or simply open up your recent posts and then look through every page of every topic you've posted in?
Every page? But that's too much to handle for us! (sarcasm)

I really do like the idea. Like if someone comments on a thread you have commented on you should be able to check mark if you want to know when someone else comments on this. It would be kinda like Facebook I suppose. But this is Bungie. And they WIN.

Thanks everyone for the POSITIVE responses.

Just because i used the word 'noifications,' people should not just directly link ideas to fbook, 'oh look you can leave a comment' 'IT MUST BE FACEBOOK I HEARD YOU CAN LEAVE COMMENTS ON FBOOK, therefore bnet=facebook. That kind of mentality will get no-one anywhere.

Anyway, if you support this continue to do so:)

Yeah...uh...he was being sarcastic.

OT: I really do think notifications would be a super helpful feature and I hope it's implemented.

Didn't mean to be a prick, mate. It's just there's been a lot of people not getting it. Not directed at you specifically. My bad on that one.

Yeah i know he was, just was saying that for all the people that hate fb and get butthurt about their favourite website turning into their least favourite social networking site.

Must admit when i first read his post i didn't think it was sarcasm until i read the comments...

Does this mean he supports this idea :D

It only takes a simple question to change everything.

This would be a great improvement to have. It should be toggled on and off.
