As long as we would have the ability to turn them off I'm all for it.

If this happens, I want it to be automatically off, and you have to enable it, or for there to be a huge flashing button that shows me where to disable it. I don't want to be looking for it trying to turn it off, which knowing myself I'll probably do.

I guess a lot of people want this, I don't see use in it myself. Guess y'all are just lazy :p

I am in total favor of notifications, though I feel the forums will need a revamp before this occurs :/

It would be interesting what they could with the 'Saved Thread' button...

I want notifications for replies to your saved threads.

Well currently I doubt it's possible to implement notifications because of the the old forum code. I don't know if it's possible, and it very well could be, but I doubt it.

If it's not possible, it may be better to use what we have and add some new code for it. Saving a thread is easy, so why can't there be more to it? Why not have something like "Your Most Recent threads" and "Most Recent Replies" or something? Just a few ideas.

They're okay. One thing I would like is the quote notification; it would obviously need to be able to be turned off, for the Ninjas and such.

Do I try hard??... Yes, yes I do.

It would be a pretty good idea, but Durado is right, the codes probably are not capable of it, at least at their current state.

I do hope that was sarcasm.
Then you'll be shocked and saddened to know that the base argument of the two alternative solutions I mentioned aren't even my suggestions at all! Yes, believe it or not, people in the past have suggested that we either add people from bungie.net onto our Facebook profiles, or look through our recent posts as a viable solution/substitute for a dedicated, site-driven notification system. I do not know if they were the ones joking, or simply ignoring/not recognising the clear limitations and inconveniences in what they were saying.

Why can't you just keep your tab open with your thread?
I don't see why bungie.net needs notifications.
...and this is exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about.

This would be very convenient, and for anyone who doesn't like it, there could be an option to turn notifications off.

I completely agree with this.

I thought your argument consisted of people having to go offsite for things like the friends list. Why is having a tab open in your browser that much effort? Right click on a thread, open in new tab, make new thread, submit said thread, keep tab open, browse bungie.net forums on your main tab, flip back to your other tab and refresh. It's not that complicated. There's a difference between convenience and laziness.

daza's point is that why should we send people elsewhere when we can have it on BNet? If we can have a friends system on BNet, we can centralize everything here and not have to go do stuff on Facebook. Also, some people don't want to mix their BNet life with their more personal life on Facebook.

And that would be easier to browse BNet and get NOTIFIED when your thread is responded to or you're quoted or any other notifiable event. Why make it harder on the forumgoers when 20 or 30 lines of code (I don't know if that's accurate, I'm guessing) can make it easier?

At least, I think that's what dazarobbo's saying. If I'm wrong, consider this my opinion the matter (it is, anyway).

People don't have to leave bungie.net to check if their thread has been posted in, your first argument is invalid.

Yes, it would be easier, and we may see it in the next hawtness, however, it just turns it into a lazier one click format, there's already a way to do this without having to add this notification system onto b.net.

It's not a strain to open a new tab with your thread in it and refresh it while you're surfing the interwebz, so it's not that hard.
How hard is it to make a thread, right click it and make a new tab? Almost as hard as moving your pointer to the top right of the screen and clicking a button then clicking the button that leads you to your thread?

[edit] As I said earlier, there's a difference between convenience and laziness. [/edit]

OK. Now what about all my posts I made yesterday? Or the day before that? Or the week before? Month before? Year before? How will I keep track of who replies to me there?

Should I keep them all open in a browser tab? Is it lazy not to, because I think my RAM might disagree with you there.

Posted by: Xplode441The first argument is not invalidated considering its referring, quite OBVIOUSLY, to the friends list system.

And it's not being lazy, it's being nice hosts. If you get to the point where a change to a forum you frequent makes you a fundamentally lazier person, then you should probably go outside.

I'm actually starting to sway to Xplode's side. It is more of a "too lazy" than a "more convenient" argument.

I have no problem with OP's idea, especially if it could be disabled.

I'm not referring to Posts, I'm referring to threads created by users.

I don't understand why posts need notifications either, unless you want your ego stroked when someone quotes you, however, it may be important to some people.
If you're having a conversation with someone, I don't see people just leaving the thread and doing something else for twenty minutes then coming back and saying, "I'll pick this conversation back up!" Plus when someone replies to your post, the thread is bumped back to the top of the forum board. Some people may forget, but I remember what threads I've seen before and I'll remember if I've posted in them before, and I check them out to see what new post has been submitted.

I saw.

the day and week before I can understand, but needing every post for the past few months, or god forbid, years seems completely narcissistic.

and your recent posts can handle the previous day/week.

  • 09.28.2011 9:24 PM PDT

Posted by: Xplode441Because it's convenient, it's useful, and it's so you aren't forced to remember where and when you've posted.

Again, what if someone replies to a week-old thread in another forum I don't usually browse? How will I ever know about it [their reply]? Apply the same problem to a private group.

What if I post a lot? Should I really be forced to have to open up every thread to look for a reply? What if I'm offline for a week and someone makes a really good response to something I've said? How will I ever find it?

Give me a solution here.
