OK. Now what about all my posts I made yesterday? Or the day before that? Or the week before? Month before? Year before? How will I keep track of who replies to me there?

Should I keep them all open in a browser tab? Is is lazy not to, because I think my RAM might disagree with you there.

I have no problem with OP's idea, especially if it could be disabled.

I'm not referring to Posts, I'm referring to threads created by users.

I don't understand why posts need notifications either, unless you want your ego stroked when someone quotes you, however, it may be important to some people.
If you're having a conversation with someone, I don't see people just leaving the thread and doing something else for twenty minutes then coming back and saying, "I'll pick this conversation back up!" Plus when someone replies to your post, the thread is bumped back to the top of the forum board. Some people may forget, but I remember what threads I've seen before and I'll remember if I've posted in them before, and I check them out to see what new post has been submitted.
Could you be more unnecessarily condescending? Let's go over the BASE reason for a forum, shall we? I'll give you a hint, it's to promote discussion around a common topic.

If everyone just replies to the OP, that's not excessively interesting discussion, now is it? So that means people must reply to other responses. But then how can you respond to people who respond to you if you don't know they responded to you?

You aren't just going to check your quotes to "stroke your ego". I would say that 80% of the time I get quoted is not just a "this" or a "QFT". And how can you even ATTEMPT to guess when you'll "pick this conversation back up" considering forums are basically, for lack of a better phrase because I'm tired and don't feel like racking my brain, "turn based" discussion. In other words, not "real time" discussion. So sometimes you have no option but to leave for 20 minutes and check back later.

I don't get why you're trying to make things like wanting to return to a thread to continue discussion and speaking in a conversation with large-ish intervals in between posts as if its an alien concept to forum-ing or, more specifically and appropriately, BNet.

Posted by: Xplode441Because it's convenient, it's useful, and it's so you aren't forced to remember where and when you've posted.

Again, what if someone replies to a week-old thread in another forum I don't usually browse? How will I ever know about it [their reply]? Apply the same problem to a private group.
routinely check your threads.

What if I post a lot? Should I really be forced to have to open up every thread to look for a reply? What if I'm offline for a week and someone makes a really good response to something I've said? How will I ever find it?

Give me a solution here.

I don't see why you should care THAT MUCH about a reply...

Let's think about this logically for a second. For the most part, a thread will probably last for a couple days, if it's successful, it can last for a week or two until people are tired of it. On rare occasions they can last for a lot longer.

My point is that a thread will usually die after a week, in which case there would be no more notifications coming from that thread, and probably a few others you posted in. Obviously you wouldn't be notified of anything that has been archived. My FAQ thread, for example, has been around for almost four years, so I would still be notified of it since it's still active.

I saw.

the day and week before I can understand, but needing every post for the past few months, or god forbid, years seems completely narcissistic.

and your recent posts can handle the previous day/week.
I highlighted the "all my posts" part. As in not just important ones. And the thing about forums is if someone replies to you a year later, you can look over the thread and your post, have the context, and continue the discussion. That's not narcissistic, that's pretty freakin' cool.

or it might be, if your threads didn't automatically lock after a month.

Perhaps an option to turn off notifs. for a certain thread? Like a box comes up saying "BNetAwesomeGuy post in the FAQ FOrum Title Thingy" then below that in the box it has a button that says "View this post" and another below it that is a checkbox and next to it says "Stop receiving notifications from this thread". And you can also edit this option (toggle it on and off) from the first page of the thread (or every page of the thread, maybe in the upper right hand corner)?

Idk, obviously just an idea that probably won't be implemented but still... it's a fix of sorts.

Not if they're consistently active. Like the Forum Title FAQ.

Edit: can you and daza get in a fight? I got bored and drew a picture in paint I've been itching to link in a thread... ;)

routinely check your threads.
Versus an automated notification system? No thanks. I don't see why anyone would want or suggest that over a system which offers them such a convenience which is (hypothetically) more efficient and effective in every way possible.

I don't understand oral at all. I will never do that it is so nasty! And doing things in woods sounds scary.

As long as I'm not emailed every time I get a notification, I would like this feature.
I left email notifications on during my early stages of Facebook. So many emails. So little time.

I would rather not, part of the magic of B.net is looking up those threads I have posted in to see if I got quoted.

I think if notifications are possible, they should be implemented. If people do happen to get spammed with notifications, maybe there could be some sort of filter, allowing you to block them from certain Threads.

Maybe above the OP of every Thread there would be a "Notify me" button, if you click that button the Thread will notify you every time someone replies to you.

There really isn't any reason to not have it, it's convenient, and since bungies gone dark the forums are all we have here.

I spend too much time here.. too much time indeed.

I tweet?

So, an idea. I don't know if this alternative has been brought up yet, but I've brought it up in the past. How about the notification system is off by default and is activated by clicking a check box under the text field when replying. Perhaps it says something like "notify me when this post is replied to". That way you'll only be notified of posts you really care about...

Honestly, something that Google+ does could be implemented as well. If you no longer feel like getting notified from a thread you could "mute" it.

yes... the magic of BNet is having to look up your posts(all of them) to see if you were responded to. Makes sense... if you don't think about it.

There's already a function to save your threads, it's meant to be used.

I use it to save all the threads I make, that way I can keep track of them and keep the nostalgia factor that comes out of them.

Plus bum bum bum, it's organized by forums! The only thing that makes the saved threads idea a problem is the bug with it.

There won't be many "bolt-on" features like this added to the existing site design, but we're definitely thinking a lot about how we can build better systems for you guys in the future.

Keep the suggestions coming.
