Chuck Norris does not tea-bag...he potato-sacks.

One of the greatest book series ever written:
Piers Anthony BIO OF A SPACE TYRANT.
This book series had a profound effect on how I viewed the US even before I really could fully understand the politics of it all. PLEASE read this hard-to-get collection. It'll change how you think of our neighbors.
This book series would kick the -blam!- out of Star Bores!

Cool new peeps Francois Boucher-Genesse, Chris Tchou, and Isaac Hannaford. It's great to show what influences some of the Bungie team, but where's Frankies, Martys, Jones, or even ♥Altas♥?

It was mentioned.

As was the Ender's Shadow series. If you'd have read just part of the first page of this thread you would have known.

Not even Jack Vance?? I read a few books of Mister Vance and sometimes I recognized some elements which come back on the Halo games...

No mention of Red Dwarf? That was an amazing TV Series and a good couple of books as well. British humour at its best. I highly recommend Red Dwarf to anyone looking for a comedy sci-fi novel. Also, no mention of KEITH LAUMER!?!?!?!?!?!? The Grand-daddy of the Action Sci-fi series? I am flabbergasted. He's probably too old-skool.

SMEG! I knew I forgot something!

this bungie guide to sci fi is a lil dull. i mean: do they not know what good sci fi is? i only glanced at the actual commentary so i apologize if it is better then the list of "winners" they put up there. the lists are horrible. especially the video games. they put such an big hype on blade runner that they failed to realize blade runner is an old movie that is slow paced and boring. the futuristic part is good yes but as a whole its not that good of a movie.

Seriously... you have to be kidding me. Slow pacing does not make a movie bad. In fact, in my opinion a major flaw of many recent films, not just science fiction films, is a lack of any sense of pacing. Every sequence is edited like an action sequence, thus rendering the purpose of an action scene meaningless. The second and third matrix films suffered from this. If you think Blade Runner was boring, you just weren't paying attention.

Posted by: eternaleuhporia the video game section is down right horrible and i dont want to even begin on that cuz its ridiculous. the book section is alright. i dont read much but i know dune is the best choice.

You should read more. Many of the books listed in the article are classics. The original Dune is a great novel, but as you don't seem to have read it, you're missing out.

first off, i dont read because im a visual person and my mind drifts when i read. i did however read both dune and stranger in a strange land plus saw both the dune movie and the remake for the sci fi channel. secondly blade runner was boring because it was slow and the plot wasnt pushed along. this wasnt because of a bad plot. it was because of the direction and the way the acting was directed. slow pacing doesnt make a movie bad but it does in a movie that is supposed to be fast paced like blade runner. and pacing is supposed to be done by scenes not by the entire movie. every scene in blade runner was slow and thus made me almost fall asleep. but then again most movies back in the 80's were slow paced so u cant blame the directer for style depicted by the times

I love BoaST, but I haven't read the latest one. I have the original 5 books, but Piers Anthony put out a 6th book, done from the little sister's point of view. I haven't read that one. If you read it, drop me a PM and let me know how it is.

And Tinman, you miss the point of the Stargate shows. It's camp. Well done camp, but camp. Why else would MacGyver be the man in charge?

Er, the director of Blade Runner did a marvelous job of capturing the emotion found in Phillip K. Dick's Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep I have to agree with Narcogen. You've missed the point. Was he? Wasn't he? It wasn't meant to be an 'action' movie specifically. It's Sci-Fi. Not all Sci-fi includes lasers everywhere and odd aliens.

WOOOT! Lost (not an advertisement, I swear) is great! Although I don't think I'd necessarily classify it as a sci-fi just yet, since everything is pretty much unexplained at this point in time; but there does seem to be some nanotechnology going on, which some might consider sci-fi.

Camp does not justify bad writing and acting.

I did. The cube is a low budget mystery sci-fi film that I enjoyed greatly.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space.
Nobody has mentioned this masterpiece of sci-fi terror. Delightful flick.
How can this great movie go unnoticed?

Phrog pilots, reckless and free. We would strap into our birds, set the engines on fire, and leave these earthly bonds with a chorus of WHOP WHOP WHOP. Akin to beating your chest and howling in defiance at the rest of the world.

Great update, now I don't feel so alone out there.
Everytime I talk about or quote Ice Pirates I have to spend ten minutes describing the movie. I started to feel like no one had seen this movie but me.

It's also nice to know that there may be other people out there jamming out to The Transformers: The Movie soundtrack.
"You've got the touch, you've got the powwweeeeerrrr." *Electric guitar riffs galore*

"What's wrong."
"The...the ships got herpes."
