this bungie guide to sci fi is a lil dull. i mean: do they not know what good sci fi is? i only glanced at the actual commentary so i apologize if it is better then the list of "winners" they put up there. the lists are horrible. especially the video games. they put such an big hype on blade runner that they failed to realize blade runner is an old movie that is slow paced and boring. the futuristic part is good yes but as a whole its not that good of a movie.
Seriously... you have to be kidding me. Slow pacing does not make a movie bad. In fact, in my opinion a major flaw of many recent films, not just science fiction films, is a lack of any sense of pacing. Every sequence is edited like an action sequence, thus rendering the purpose of an action scene meaningless. The second and third matrix films suffered from this. If you think Blade Runner was boring, you just weren't paying attention.
Posted by: eternaleuhporia the video game section is down right horrible and i dont want to even begin on that cuz its ridiculous. the book section is alright. i dont read much but i know dune is the best choice.
You should read more. Many of the books listed in the article are classics. The original Dune is a great novel, but as you don't seem to have read it, you're missing out.
first off, i dont read because im a visual person and my mind drifts when i read. i did however read both dune and stranger in a strange land plus saw both the dune movie and the remake for the sci fi channel. secondly blade runner was boring because it was slow and the plot wasnt pushed along. this wasnt because of a bad plot. it was because of the direction and the way the acting was directed. slow pacing doesnt make a movie bad but it does in a movie that is supposed to be fast paced like blade runner. and pacing is supposed to be done by scenes not by the entire movie. every scene in blade runner was slow and thus made me almost fall asleep. but then again most movies back in the 80's were slow paced so u cant blame the directer for style depicted by the times
