interesting mention of tranformers, didn't they also have an ARK.

I am so happy because i have seen, heard, and read alot of the science fiction titles mentioned.

And if another person mentions a lack of stargate again, arrgh, read more than just what made the top 5 of each catergory,

And Tinman, you miss the point of the Stargate shows. It's camp. Well done camp, but camp. Why else would MacGyver be the man in charge?

Camp does not justify bad writing and acting.

Then explain the Evil Dead movies.

Don’t get mad if I flame you because you cannot spell, or because my three year old has better grammar and etiquette than you.

Its about friggin time someone threw props to ICE PIRATES!

There's a difference between "so bad it's good," and just plain bad.

To put it another way, if the people behind Stargate are trying to make a show that's so bad that it's good, they're doing a bad job making a bad television series.

Yes. The formula goes as follows:
Good Camp = The people know they're making camp.
Bad Camp = The people THINK they're making good quality movie, but it turns out to be camp.

All this blabbering about SG1, good camp, bad camp, and nobody seems to deal with important issues, like, where does Killer Klowns from Outer Space fit in.

Killer Clowns is good camp. You KNOW they didn't take that stuff seriously. Besides, it was made by my dad's college roomate.

I skiped most of the middle of this thread, so forgive me if this was already touched upon.

Am I the only one here other than Shishka that likes Farscape? I mean, it's a great show (in my oppion) and it wasn't even mentioned in most of the artical.

I watched farscape for a while.
But mostly, I can't believe no one had read anything by Gene Wolfe. The Long Sun series is quite possibly my favorite sci-fi thing ever! Gene Wolfe is an excellent writer

For Movies:

Close Encounters of The Third Kind
Planet of The Apes (1968)
Beneath the Planet of The Apes
Escape From The Planet of The Apes
Conquest of the Planet of The Apes
Battle for the Planet of the Apes
Total Recall

As for Books:

La Planéte Des Singes - Pierre Boulle (Planet of the Apes in English Version)

Note: Really Suprised No One Mentioned the classic, Planet of the Apes. I mean it's a classic, and a four star movie. Great film, but don't get the new one, the old one (1968) is the best.

*sigh* I'm outnumbered here.

You don't hire Richard Dean Anderson if you want a serious movie/show. He's too burned out from MacGyver randominventionitis.

Some bad camp is the best camp around. Excalibur comes to mind, so does Logan's Run. They weren't intended to be cheesy, but hey, they were awesome because of it.

What Bungie said about the Warthog for Halo 2:
"I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."

What Bungie said about the Warthog for Halo 3:
"Let's make a -blam!- ass horn."

Why doesn't anyone like Stargate SG-1?!?!?!?

I am already reading the Area 51 series currently, and it rocks.
Didn't read Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter Miller, but I read Conditionally Human by him, and it was a pretty good set of short stories.
Halo Trilogy rocked(minus the flood, but it's hard to make a good game into a book), can't wait for Nylund to write another awesome book.
Dragonrider series by Anne McCaffrey is pretty good SciFi/Fantasy.
And the Starship Troopers book was much better than the horrible movie.
I saw the movie after reading the book, and couldn't believe that it was based off of it.
The Star Wars Expanded Universe has all my favorite books in it, some of the best being:
I, Jedi
The X-Wing Series-Stackpole has nice plots, Allston has more comedy
Novelization of Episode 3 actually makes the lightsaber duels seem realistic, instead of 3 seconds of fighting with a coup de grace for Dooku...And you can kinda see Anakin's motives for betraying the Jedi, but he's still dumb...
The New Jedi Order

And those are my books, because movies are usually a let-down, so I don't watch many.

And MacGyver as a main character in SciFi is a good idea, mainly cause I kinda forgot that Richard Dean Anderson was MacGyver when I started watching SG: SG1

Thank you Bungie!! Keep this article where I can find it because i need a summer reading list(having just finished Robin Hobbs Farseer series).

I'm glad Ender's Game is so well represented. I'm actully one of the many ender gamertags you guys see in MM. There is one guy ENDER who beat me the one game we played(BTB but he owned). Other than that I've owned the other enders, i'd like a rematch so we can fight to see who is the best Ender.

Ive got to check out this Primer. Lost is great sci-fi or not.

WEIRD coincidence...2 days ago my father was in town and we along with my friend willis dikfit got to talking about books and my father started telling us about William Gibson and how he had (in a way) prophizied the internet revolution, then he told us about this book SnowCrash by Neal Stevenson and how he had been unable to find it where he lives......and now you guys mention it numorous times....so never heard of it for 20 some odd years and then twice in 3 days(2 if i'd come to the site)..I have to read this book wouldn't you say?

So again thank you bungie because i trust your judgement as to what is good and what isn't (STG are you serious?). I would love to see what your fantasy list looks like as I'm more partial to fantasy, and wonder what impact the fantasy genre has had on Halo.

FoR sucked sooo bad it hurt a little.I'm expecting good things from the graphic novel. The Beach is my favorite book so also expecting good things from Garland(get a director already)

Ok if anyone wants to get on XBL and play and discuss sci-fi,fantasy,LOst,TV,movies..here's my gamertag L Ender I ,looks like l Ender l i'm decent, leave a voice or text message letting me know you like to "discuss".

Best article in a long time

Shame on you Bungie Firefly fans, especially you, Frankie... going on and on about the smoking hot women of the series and movie.

Where are the props for the SMOKING HOT MEN?

Hater.

"Looks like I picked the wrong day to stop smokin'!"

If you like Starship Troopers and weren't satisfied with the movies they made based on it, try this 1999 CGI TV series that sadly didn't last past season one and in affect left a huge cliffhanger at the end:
Roughnecks - The Starship Troopers Chronicles

Don't be discouraged to buy it since it only had one season. Its very high quality CGI for its time (and even today IMO). The episodes on the first disc in the set didn't have that great of lip-syncing (improves as the series goes on) but it was still done VERY very good. I used to watch this in 5th grade and bought the DVD set last Feb. and enjoy it very much. The marines remind me alot of Halo....

What about Family Guy? Oh yea South Park and Family Guy are having a "war". Also Frankie you should really try the Tom Clancy Splinter Cells or atleast a Tom Clancy games (just a suggestion.)

I agree that seeing explosions in outer space is considerably different than in the atmosphere, definately the lack of sound. You might note that depending on the beam properties you could indeed see a large explosion from a beam weapon, of course you'd not see it, unless it was some type of heavy particle beam. But the United States government is striving to have the ability to have large explosions due to fusion events on an incident surface. This will most likely be later than sooner though.
