We don't know anything about it other than that it's solid proof of the UNSC's involvement in Halo 4.

AN unoriginal name to be honest. Either than that, not much is known. Not exactly proof of UNSC involvement in Halo 4. Still lots of issues that come up when considering how quick UNSC technology evolved despite having their infrastructure and resources decimated during the war. That and somehow stumbling upon a mysterious sphere nobody else knew about still sounds rather far-fetched.

Also, the portion near it's engine looks rather suspicious...almost Floody in a way.

Do tell us how long Chief has been drifting then.

Judging from Halo: Legends, probably around 3 years, she does claim to be 7 at the time. I have no answer on the exact time, but if it's before 2610, which the Encyclopedia states Chief is still MIA, it's too soon.

I honestly can't imagine Chief chilling in a cryo tube for 30+ years. It's possible with power, but then that brings up the issue of what is sustaining him for that journey and I'm not sure how much power a ship split in half has after a few years.

That's how I see it.

Ahem.

So because I believe it's an unoriginal name for a ship means I fail? Good one Ruby. There are far better names for a UNSC ship than Infinity.

Why not name it after some of the fallen heroes of the war? Does Captain Keyes not deserve a ship? Admiral Cole? Vice Admiral Danforth Whitcomb?

Mr. Nitpick.
Why would that be necessary? The name "UNSC Infinity" is fine.

Because if I'm thinking right... it doesn't really match the naming convention of other UNSC ships.

Also, Mr. "UNSC must be in halo 4 or it's stoopid, but flood can;t."

Did I say the story was crap because of it? No. All I said the name didn't sound original to me and I had some canonical concerns with it's presence and the situation of the UNSC post-Halo 3, which I explained to Roberto.

We should know better, because we are better.

I never heard of Infinity before this. I hope the ship's motto isn't something along the lines of "To infinity and beyond!". If it is, I would cringe more than the "To war" line.
It does seem a bit soon though. We found out about the Forerunners in 2552 and all of a sudden we understand it enough to make a ship using it in 2553? Am I the only one who see this problem?

  • 09.28.2011 7:31 PM PDT

I think its another Marathon reference, Marathon Infinity anyone?

I have, but apparently to the Waypoint folks, and certain individuals here, that makes me too judgmental.

It took Halsey, one of the most brilliant scientists ever known, almost a decade to reverse engineer Jackal Shields to produce MJOLNIR shields. Without the benefit of Halsey or Cortana the UNSC has nothing to base their studies on. Cortana and Halsey are arguably the two most knowledgeable people on the Forerunners and Covenant and neither of them are around to help out. Big plot hole if you ask me.

What naming convention?!

And at that last quote, you really enjoy twisting my points around like twizzlers.
WHEN the hell did I ever say that the Flood weren't going to be in Halo 4? They're just NOT the main enemy.
Bumbling ignoramus, you are.

Named mostly after important places, battles, or figures of history as far as I can tell.

Oh, no twisting. IIRC, you actually said that. "Halo 4 MUST HAVE THE UNSC OR IT NO CONSISTENT" Then said if the Flood was in Halo 4, it's be a very stupid thing on 343's part.

Most UNSC sips have some sort of mystic feel, reference to history, or are just odd. For example:
Forward unto Dawn
Pillar of Autumn
Gettysburg
All Under Heaven
Stalingrad
Dawn Under Heaven
Say My Name
Hannibal
Armageddon's Edge
Do you see how Infinity seems out of place?

Infinity could be a name for a symbolical reason mainly that this ship is the future of our technology.

Also although Halsey took a decade to reverse engineer the jackal shields remember she was the only one doing it due to its top secret importance. Now every scientist can do the work so it could have sped up. Also the engineers from the covenant may have joined the human mainly through the elites. Remember they are now more or else free considering they don't care who they work for usually all they care about is building. Remember engineers are making it all the other ai have to do are transplate and understand what happened.

Why does everyone think only Dr. Halsey and Cortana can do anything. Remember that there are thousands of scientist and AI's getting the job done. Remember some of the greatest geniuses don't have the funding to make money or they didn't want to work for the UNSC due to resistance connection or sympathy for the innies also some are just comming into science community due to the war blocking them from studying.

Plus do you expect that Cortana was the only one who had any info on forerunners, how many other AI's from ONI were working on forerunner objects. Also did you expect the UNSC not to back up the memory and info from Cortana after Halo 1 and pulling her out of the flood infected ship.

  • 09.28.2011 8:15 PM PDT

I doubt the UNSC has thousands of Smart AI's left right after Halo 3.

Also, I doubt Halsey was the only person working on the shielding system.

still the number now entering into this and years of reverse engineering from different scientist may be able to make some breakthrough theoretically and may have made some plans but these may have been put on hold after the fall of reach.

  • 09.28.2011 8:58 PM PDT

"Find where the liar hides, so that I may place my boot between his gums!" - Rtas 'Vadum

It only took so long to develop energy shields because Covenant technology is wired to blow if you try to tamper with it. There was nothing for Humanity to study until they got that cracked Jackal gauntlet.

I will be pissed if the UNSC makes quite literally zero advancement because Halsey/Cortana are not around, or some other reason like that. The UNSC is already pitifully backwards in its technological development as is.

Not arguing the case for "UNSC Infinity" or whatever it is called, just pointing out that it will be a travesty of Human creativity to have the UNSC still relatively the same technology wise in the new trilogy.

remember there are also manufacturing plants they can borrow from the covies. Also what about dividing the spoils of the war capturing important structures like building plants etc.

Also the exponential function means that the increase in technology will accelerate also learning is easier than discovering. So the humans are just learning and it will take them little time to adapt it.
