Why couldn't we fight marines in halo 2?

Why would people play as the covenant only to fight more aliens, flood, sentinels, but not marines?

I for one did not desire to murder the good guys on the human team, the covenant were invading-bad guys. Humans were defending earth-good guys.

For Carnage Apply Within - We played Marathon before Marathon was cool!

Keep it authentic...

Because that would be killing people and that is bad.

This.

Bungie takes this very seriously. There's no mercy in Reach if you accidentally kill allies too much but it's ironic that Bungie steeps up the opposition to kill the troopers. It's like people can't kill people but aliens can. And that's just not right. I should have the chance to fight against allies without being one shotted.

For one thing they are your friends... Now I don't know about you but I for one don't normally murder the ones I care about.

In war... there is an ally and an enemy. Your goal is to protect your ally and eliminate the enemy. What doesn't make sense?

"You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space." -Johnny Cash

I could see why you would want to fight more marines as The Arbiter in Halo 2 since there's really only one time in a flood level where you get to do this. I myself would've liked this, but that's just me.
