One of my classmates lost his father on 9/11. I had it worse than most people; back then I lived in Brooklyn. In the middle of second period class, there was a huge bang and the whole building shook, and we saw a huge plume of smoke and debris over the apartment building adjacent to my school. Since both my parents work in the city and that's the direction the smoke was in, I was freaking out, and none of the teachers would tell us what was happening because they knew my classmate (whose name I will not state) had family in the Towers. All the way over at Fort Hamilton Parkway papers were flying in the windows from far away - at first we thought they were helicopters gleaming in the sunlight... I was nervous as hell before getting home. Knowing that it was the WTC was both devastating and releiving for me...
My condolences to anyone who lost a loved one, and the topic starter is very smart not to allow politics to be involved.
