Subject: Has coup affected the comunity at large?

dat feeling when you plow a multi-ton covenant war machine.

That is to say, since coup's original conception, and its lingering(and well supported) existence, has it benefited or harmed the community. In your opinion, How do you feel it has changed this communities path, if at all?

(and no, this actually does belong in the community forum.)

Well, not that Bungie is dull but it actually gives us some form of customization seeing the majority of Bungie cannot be customized.

Chief vs the scarab? I find that hard to believe to roundhouse boot the scarab's figurative emotion out of the gaming zone.

I've never bothered to use it, so it hasn't done anything to/for me at all.

I would think that if it were a problem then the solution would be for the person that has a problem with it to just get rid of it. So, I have a hard time seeing it having any sort of negative impact on the community itself because it isn't anything that anyone is being forced to subject themselves to.

I've tried it and well... People's coup makes this website look like crap. People try making them way too "flashy"

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Many people use it I guess.

Doesn't really effect the community only the fact we have a barrage of coup related threads like this one often.

"You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space." -Johnny Cash

Coup has both positive and negative effects on the community overall, but it hasn't really effected "the path" of the community.

What Ken said.

In an off-topic comment, my computer is broken and I can't fix my coup. I made a background and an avatar, but I can't even upload them. D:

you make it sound like there's only like 20 people that use coup. Its obviously affected the community more than just threads about it. If you can't see that, god help you.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

As an outsider who does not use Coup, my opinion is that it has not particularly changed the community itself at all, certainly not in a beneficial or harmful way.

There is the argument that the member titles and colored bars provide incentive to some people to shape up and be good members, and that the ability to have a "coup" takes away that incentive, but I really think that good members are going to be good members, and bad will be bad, so I don't think Coup has much effect on that at all.

I honestly never even heard of Coup till about two months ago. I don't use it, or do I feel the need to. So I can't really say if it has affected the community as a whole. But I can say it hasn't affected me one bit.

Well put. I feel that more people would use it if it was just to customize avatars. Yeah, some coups are awesome but most are big eye-sores.

So I just got rid of mine. The site is a lot "cleaner" without coup.

Bungie.net user for 4 years and still going!
Plasmalab, a great map for Neutral CTF or Slayer. Download it and have fun. Version 1.1 now available.
Do not send me group invites I will NOT accept them.
TRIPLE SE7EN PWNAGE

When it first came out, the people who had it actually showed that they knew a tad bit more about using the internet than the average user does. Those people also knew how to make non-horrific looking coups as well since they would use colored title bars and non-animated avatars.

Today's coups consists of animated .gif avatars that normally have to do with some annoying overused meme or MLP and they have overly-flashy title bars. This is why I stopped using it 2 years ago. It seems like everyone and their grandmother on The Flood use it now.

In short it positively affected the community when it was underground and it became negative once it went semi-mainstream.

Never really used it. I cant see if effecting the site in a major way either.

No, why would I want to shuffle through pages and pages of threads t find coup threads.

I see them all the time, heck sometimes I see like 4-5 thredads about coup a day.

Here is thread no. # today about coup.

Normally coup threads are made in the flood but sometimes they surface here like this one.

Coup doesn't really affect the site too much and I like the freedom to use any avatar I want but from what I have seen, our community is not mature enough to handle that power.

I see what you're saying, but it's been that way since people have been able to do it. Lately the coup mods have been cracking down on it.

Me, I like coup, and some coups are absolutely astounding. In my opinion, coup has allowed the community to feel "free-er" if that is even a word. Hell, I know people who stay here simply to show theirs off.

I use coup, but I can certainly see what you're saying; the animated avatars and title bars are annoying and some of the color choices look like a box of crayons threw up. Background images for individual posts are horrid as well but I keep those disabled. More and more I think about using the option to not load anyone coup but my own to keep my eyes from bleeding.

I don't think it's really affected the community as a whole too much; I think there are more people who don't use it or don't know about it than those who do. It's not an essential for the site by any means and I don't usually see people telling others that "you absolutely have to have this!"
