"Just as the wave cannot exist for itself, but is ever a part of the heaving surface of the ocean, so must I never live my life for itself, but always in the experience which is going on around me.” - Albert Schweitzer
There have been times in the past where I have posted in a locked thread by accident, and received a ban for it. I never quite understood why I got banned, but all I remember is that it is very rare for someone to do so (post in a locked thread, that is).
The reason being that if you are typing a post reply---like I am now---and submit it after the thread has been locked you will automatically be redirected to a page informing you that there was an error with the server.
I believe the only way it is possible for someone to successfully post after the thread has been locked is if you submit your post a just a few seconds before someone locks the thread.
Now, with that said, I do not encourage to reply to a thread if you have the feeling it might be locked. The reason for that is because you will not only be posting after the thread has been shut down, but you will also be contributing to a thread that is in some way, shape, or form, breaking the rules.
