"Just as the wave cannot exist for itself, but is ever a part of the heaving surface of the ocean, so must I never live my life for itself, but always in the experience which is going on around me.” - Albert Schweitzer

If that is what you got out of my post reply, I highly suggest you reread it---if you read it at all. What I am trying to say is that they have no excuse for posting the way they do. If I owned a website I would follow my own rules to the letter, just as I expect my members to do.

If Bungie expects anyone to listen to them, they should set a good example for the members of their website. You cannot write a list of rules, and expect your members to follow them if you yourself do not.

I could not agree with you more, Achilles1108. I believe members of this community find it acceptable to complain about 'trolls' (we have got to come up with a more civilized word) when they let it happen right under their noses. If it were not for the quote fest that follows after an employee posts, I would say that people are not aware of what they are actually saying.

For example, when an employee posts a picture followed by a clever utterance, people brush that off as another one for the hilarity books. What they are not aware of is that members of this community, whether old or new, will mimic the behavior of someone they believe to be of authority.

They gripe over actions such as this when a non-employee (or 'Member') performs them, and in some cases find it necessary to create a thread regarding the instant. However, these members are not aware of the fact that employees implement these behaviors through their posts.

To summarize, if the employees encourage us not to act a particular way, they should not act that way themselves. And for all of those people who believe it is okay for an employee to do it simply because they run this website, they are sorely mistaken. Employees should act how they wish for us to act. Otherwise, they are just hypocrites.

See, Bungie owns the site, they make the rules.

What are you gonna do you know?

I guess you could like call Jason Jones and say Achronos is being a meanie and Jason will take 1 of his 5 monitors away.

But, that won't happen and I thought the picture was funny.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Yeah but it is a joke, just like this thread.

Bungie employees can do WHATEVER THEY WANT *that is legal

"You have no rights, play nice"

This isn't a big deal.

It isn't like the employees are banning random people or posting shock site.

I thought it was funny, and people say I have a bad sense of humor.

While they may not follow the rules to the letter they follow the spirit of the rules which is good enough for me.

The worst I've seen them do is derail a thread that was already going nowhere or a duplicate of something seen everyday like, "Armor lock is retarded".

That playful attitude and extra mile of interaction to have fun with the community like that make Bungie one of my favorite dev's IMO.

Having them follow the rules to the letter in hopes of cleaning up the forums (something I think wouldn't necessarily come from it) it wouldn't be worth losing what makes Bungie such a fun developer to be a fan of.

Tips for the future:

Why do people in ship mutinies always ask for "better treatment"? I'd ask for a pinball machine, because with all that rocking back and forth, you'd get a lot of free games.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

Hmmm...

In all seriousness, I'm going to agree with Achronos (and don't even start the stupid "you're only agreeing with him b/c he's an employee" argument). Any joke or "troll-post" by an employee/moderator should not be taken seriously.

Let's have FUN! :-D

I think it would be ironic if we were all made of iron - Caboose

One would think common sense would dictate how to post on these forums, but apparently some disagree.

As long as people post in a respectful manner and non-offensive manner, I could care less whether somebody is supposedly "trolling" or "breaking the rules". Chances are, if somebody posts something ban-worthy, it's their attitude that's the problem, not what they see others do.

These posts that you speak of are the stuff that keeps me coming back here, and I, for one, am really enjoying all the recent shenanigans.

In all seriousness it is awesome when our bosses "tease", because it is unexpected.

If you're implying that Achilles is trolling... then it is your job to use the 'report' button to make sure the post is brought to the moderation team's attention.

That's what I find a problem with the community here: some tend to think Bungie.net is some holy shrine that they must "care for" 24-hours a day; and instead of having fun, meeting new people (hey girl hey), being a contribution to e-society, etc., they taint it by making it more "serious business" than it should be. Which, overall, tends to lessen the amount of fun everyone else is having.

I don't see him having salmon text like a moderator does, do you?

It is his responsibility to report trolls to the moderation team so they can decide if the user should be banned. If this kid thinks he can just post in gold and call people trolls without reporting them? He's got another thing coming.

Didn't I illustrate this in a more condensed form Post Edit, like 3 pages ago? Except the trolling part.

I like BNet because post for post we as a group have the sharpest wit and swing sarcasm like a sword. I love it. We get upset(the older members mostly) when someone makes a thread like this and the Troll Enforcement Agencies feel like they need to shut down the site and carpet ban everyone until the next millenium. This is mainly because of the reduction in what a lot of members consider humor. We older folks should apologize for not thinking that high school toilet jokes aren't funny, and stop making threads in which reading comprehension and intelligence are required.

This entire thread is insane.

Apparently, most of you would like this forum to be the lamest, dryest place on the Internet.

Tips for the future:

1. Lighten up. This is a video game web site.
As of lately, the only video game to discuss anything new is Crimson. Halo's online gameplay is no longer under Bungie's influence. So in all honesty, I can say that more and more people come here to converse, not to discuss video games.

Now, maybe when the new IP is revealed or some news story pops ups with a bit of info, I don't see discussions leaning towards that of video games.

2. Many of you take yourselves far too seriously. I roll my eyes way more often reading in here than scanning the latest posts from the Reach forum.Again, a video game website? So now you down on the Reach forum as if the discussions there are pointless, maybe lacking seriousness? Sure, maybe my seriousness had kicked up a bit but what Achilles is saying does say a lot.

What is there to roll your eyes on in the Reach forum? Trolls? Therefore can you roll your eyes upon yourself?

3. When you make your own web site, you can do what you want with it. This is ours, and we like it here. Yes, yes, we know. We have no rights. You do have the right to do as you please, but seriously? If it offends your community and is somewhat hypocritical, then why do it repeatedly? Everyone gets a laugh every once in a while at the pictures employees post.

4. The biggest secret of them all: if someone is trolling correctly, you'll never know they were doing it, because the discussion is otherwise interesting. For example, this thread: is Achilles serious? Is he just messing with you? You don't know - but does it matter? You're still having a conversation. This thread, to me, hit me with a serious tone. We aren't used to Achilles posting like this. Sure, maybe he is trolling "correctly". I would love for you to explain that concept to me. As for conversation, it's more agreeing and throwing out viewpoints.

Is it you who is the only one not taking this thread seriously as if Achilles were trolling "correctly"?
