This is an incredible step forward to being able to cure Downss sybndonre mn humans bineg.s

I recently saw a thread in The Flood which contained a spoiler for Gears 3 in the title, entered the thread and noticed that the OP had been reported. So, I was wondering, if you have to click to collapse a reported post to be able to see it, why not change the title, as well, when that post is the OP of a thread?

Have you seen my mind anywhere? I seem to have lost it...

0x0 x0x 0x0 000 000 x0x 000
x0x 0x0 0x0 0xx 000 0x0 000
x0x x0x x00 0xx 0x0 x0x 0x0

I have seen you future

That's a good idea, whenever the OP in a thread is reported the title should turn into [Reported].

I agree.

No, because some people's threads get reported for no good reason.

I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

Maybe a reported icon next to the thread?

I also maintain that Chrome is weaksauce, and IE9 is fast and works very well

A problem arises when something like this happens:
http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=66247939

The thread is not breaking any rules and has been wrongfully reported. If the title of the thread was also edited then that thread would virtually be lost to anybody who doesn't have it saved.

Perhaps a report option is needed for thread titles specifically?

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

I think this idea has some merit. Need to be fleshed out for certain kinds of situations though. Perhaps if we dusted off the idea for the drop down menu which let's you choose why you're reporting something. If you select "spoilers" or "bad title" or something it could replace the title with "Reported" on the main index page.

A drop down menu for the report button would be ideal. I'm sure it would make the Ninjas' jobs slightly easier when they need to figure out why a post has been reported too :)

What I'm proposing would have the same effect as a drop down box for reported posts, except that instead of collapsing some section, you'd just have to enter the thread to see the title, in the way that it appears above the OP.

And, to be honest, I can't recall the last time I saw a thread reported for no reason.

Good idea by the way.

See my post above evilcam's :)

I'm not bashing you or anything, you have brought up a good point in making this thread. We just need to think about the negatives so that we can come up with solutions. It's all part of the development process.

Let's just hope that a Bungie Employee is seeing the ideas the community is coming up with so that they will at least be considered for the next hawtness. We are making suggestions on how to improve their website and that is a good thing. Who better to listen to than the people who use their site?

What if instead the entire thread was hidden? The OP is hidden, so hide the thread. Unless it's a false report, then you're really screwed.....oh man I'm already backing out of it.

Oh well.

Oh, the Reach forum. I forgot about that little gem of intellectual discussion.

Would there really be a negative to this? I mean, if it's a false report, the title isn't permanently hidden, it's just not visible from the main forum, and you have to click the link to see what it is.

That's enough to deter most people from viewing the thread. Unless it's a hot topic or has a gold septagon next to it, most people wouldn't bother clicking on a topic if they couldn't see the title.

On the other hand it could make people curious and increase the activity of the thread.

If we had the option to choose a reason for reporting a thread, that could give us the ability to make the thread title hidden after it has been reported enough. If there was a set list of reasons for reporting a thread that you had to choose from, that could also stop threads from being wrongfully reported.

And most people either won't, which kills innocent threads, or will, which draws attention to bad ones.

There's another site (it might be Kotaku, I'm not sure) that has a system where as a post becomes more and more reported/disliked, it fades so it's not as noticeable any more.

Maybe the same kind of thing could be used here. If the OP gets reported to the point of collapse, have the entire row that represents the topic in the forum fade away somewhat. Not to a point where it's completely gone (ie. deleted), just so that your attention isn't drawn to it (which I think is what overall goal of this thread is anyway).

Except that our attention is drawn to anything which looks different, so this may have the opposite effect.

Maybe there should be a proportionality to how many users report the post and what occurs to the thread.

After a certain number of posts (more than the required amount for the drop down) the thread moves to page 2- making prevalence of a user noticing the post far less common.
