When the game is over, the king and pawn go into the same box

Like the Gaming and Gaining for Good Event (presented by Xbox)? Or is that considered advertising and promotion?

Hard is good.

If it's a promotion for an event that's non-profit then it would be pretty unfair to not permit it.

I would assume that you can talk about it here, but I don't think directly advertising it would be good.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

You can PM Urk.

It's certainly non-profit. You basically sign up, link your GT, solicit donations, and the proceeds go to the children's hospital/charity of your choice. I was just unsure about the soliciting donations side of it.

You should see if Bungie will play.

You know like a pay to play event.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

No. The forum rules are clear that soliciting donations is prohibited. Furthermore, advertisements are not allowed either. As coolmike said, discussions are generally allowed to occur, but when it crosses the line into "promotion" or "advertising," the thread is typically locked.

Thanks. That's what I thought, but wasn't sure due the nature of it being a charity.

I think when you start soliciting for money, even a donation for a charity, it counts as advertisement and promoting. Same for trying to get people to join the event... it is a for of advertising and promotion, regardless of the nature of said event.

Well the primary reason is that Achronos/the Web Team does not want to see its website used to solicit donations and/or promote charities unless they are official Bungie-sanctioned promotions.

There are many potential underlying reasons that I can think of, though, ranging from reasons as minor as lack of discussion and possible proliferation of such threads all the way to more serious reasons such as scams/phony charities. But that's just speculation -- I can't really say for sure what the underlying reasons for the rule are. I can only say that I completely agree with it for my own reasons.

These forums are a place where people come for entertainment, laughs, and discussion. There are many other places you can go when you're feeling charitable. Trying to take advantage of a well-established community to make money (even if it's for charity) seems inappropriate and destructive to me.

In my personal opinion, one of my private groups has really suffered a reduced sense of fun and community due to people constantly trying to use the group to raise money for charity, non-profit organizations, and sometimes even for-profit ventures. I'd hate to see that happen to the main forums too.

There goes the ability to even attempt to post the event for charity.

Since the >>only<< way to get the word out is "promotion" or "advertising,"

I think the main reason is to keep the forums from becoming full of spam and adds.
