Subject: My thoughts on how Chief may be different in Halo 4.

Straight Edge.

I recall reading Halo: The Flood and part of the book in the beginning revolves around a horrible dream The Chief has while in Cryo, and while it may be a popular theory that Chief is suffering PTSD he may also during the course of his stasis suffer from additional dreams, he vividly recalls the ones he has in The Flood later in the book and being that he is in Cryo for considerably longer after Halo 3 a character driven plot could be made around the trauma Chief is suffering from.

What are your thoughts on Chief's character change and how do you expect him to change?

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

They said they're giving him a lot more personal baggage...which I'm very happy about. For two reason. First, it makes him more human, gives him more personality. I love the Chief, but he's not somebody who you can relate to. Maybe this personal baggage will make him a more interesting character, overall. (Even though I already think he's very interesting.) Secondly, it's realistic. He's killed countless, countless enemies. Even for a Spartan, that starts to add up.

well what i do know is ever Since chief stopped listening to cameo, he decided to get rid of the cod piece and go with a regular guy look instead. Gone where those days of dressing up cool and saying things like "word". I guess hes getting rid of his little "peripherals", Could this mean that the groin now has a larger number of hit points in multiplayer?

I hope the chief gets infected by flood and then turns evil.

Yeah, any Spartan would be mentally stable after a 30+ year war against a genocidal alien collective, nearly dying through said war multiple times, encountering a race of parasitic aliens that are the epitome of our nightmares, nearly getting infected by said parasite, and watching everyone close to you die from said alien collective and parasites.

Indeed.

... Wait.

In all seriousness, I agree with SEAL and Cobra.

Mental instability + Master Chief + An entire trilogy = Does not compute.

You're either broken or hardened by the events you just listed. Given Master Chief's character, I'd say hardened, but full of grief.

Sounds like that's your problem, makes sense to me and...well a lot of other fans. I doubt 343 will give him issues every second of the trilogy, but how can you honestly think he would be mentally stable after all he's been though?

Read the edit I made before you posted.

But I expect Chief to sit down at some point during the story and reminisce on everything that has happened, feeling tired of it all.

And why exactly is it bad to have periodic reflections along the trilogy? I see no downside.

That's what a I just said was what I expected, and what would make sense considering they're flushing Chief's character out a bit more.

Well this is a Spartan you're talking about. I wouldn't go as far as to say he's not mentally stable.

Read other posts. You can have character development without throwing what Chief is in the trash. He's not a normal human who would have mental breakdowns under the situations.

There is no evil, just perspectives.

Halo 4 Ever.

I believe Chief is being affected by said problems as discussed and remember one thing Spartans in several stories want to keep is their humanity, it is what they fight for, so for him to suffer from some sought of problem would only be realistic.

The fact that he has gone through so much, not just in the games, but before then is insane, and amazing that he is still the way he is.

but i think Cortana will be a bigger influence on John then the war itself, say he lost Cortana, or she changes in a drastic way, then that could affect him, could be either a personality change for the better or worse.

but maybe, even humanity will cause John to have some sort of change, this is a theory because 343 said at E3 this year that alot of time has gone by and alot of changes have been made.

Well what the whole "MC can handle it" side is not getting is.
sure MC is trained an all to not go under stress from the war and all
men still change..even augumented men or spartans..they all change...
and also the Spartans were trained for Human VS Human warfare
not
Human Vs ET's that you know nothing about then very little(during the trilogy)which takes no predators killing your fellow soilder's brutally

and also a parasetic life form which you litterally no NOTHING about except their called "Flood" and kill everything + have no known allies....is very overwelming for ANY super soilder

agreed bar that Spartan II's such as chief were trained for Covenant warfare,

I am the best thing that ever happened to you

The Chief will have suffered severe freezer burn after too many years in cryo sleep and will most likely be retarded and or blind.

Why does everyone hate Halo 2? Maybe its because its the worst game ever next to mario.

I think Halo 4 is going to have a very interesting story and I hope the gameplay is absolutley awesome.

I personally think his personality won't only change because of what he went through but also because of th geas inside him.

Remember that Chakas and Riser changed too in Cryptum because of that same reason.

Those are my 2 cents

You know this got me thinking what if there are flashbacks gameplay missions. Considering he has a huge amount of time to reflect on. I mean days of nothingness except discovering will make him think also during times when he needs to rest. Cortana wont be always on his tail. She will sometimes be studying the area and adding more to her vast knowledge of information.
I feel like there may be covies in these flashbacks.

Didn't Frankie said at Halo fest that they would explore his past like spartan training a bit in Halo 4?

Plus the death of some of his closest friends Sam and Kurt and some other spartans even if he didnt know that they died according to what he knows they are dead. Plus the idea of the flood and how he was nearly useless to them and was only able to save them at the knick of time. Also maybe the time with the gravemind may also be playing back effecting his perception.

We’re flawed because we want so much more. We’re ruined because we get these things and wish for what we had.

Lol, I was just thinking about that but I thought his power armor prevented that thought one of the books said that.
