Le Captein wouldn't tell me what he left on that UFO, i know what i left, my rifle, but i'm still in deep thought about why the UFO exploded...

Hi, i was just wondering if i could check if any members were online without messaging them saying; "Yo, You online?"

Nope. Reasoning is because this site is for discussion on the Forums, not chatting with friends all day, sadly. :/

That's the problem, i can't report somebody, so i want to message a ninja to get a full caps thread locked...

"We live in a special time; the only time where we can observationally verify that we live in a very special time" - Lawrence Krauss.

I was a finalist :P

This would be a good feature, if a friend list was ever incorporated into Bungie.net. It would be extremely convenient.

Meh, i'm not too big on that idea, mods would have about a billion freind requests daily, thus removing it instantly, thus making the fans of it pissed at the mods.

Well, here we are. I guess that it was destined to come to this.

For the ninja, we have tried leveraging various external messaging clients over the years and to date, none have worked out well.

I could see a the following idea being "helpful" for allowing and encouraging members to "connect", but I don't know how likely a feature it would be.

Imagine asection on the profile page that the member has included their various 3rd party communication/network/messaging information. A link to FB, G+, Twitter, Foursquare, Skype, AIM, WLM, Yahoo, etc..

The member could then link what accounts they wanted to share with others on this site.

Actually, that could probably be done now with the signature and a URL shortener or in the homepage section of the profile. Probably why it won't become a feature since no one uses those sections of the profile.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Or, we could just put a light next to someones name on their Bungie.net account that glows green if they are signed in and red if they are offline.

Create an account, then choose which members you'd like to stalk. You'll figure it out.

How do you determine "online"?

A page loaded? A page loaded in the past X minutes? Last post? Mouse movement? Keystrokes?

You know when you are "online" (and it seems a simple matter to know your status, at least from the member's perspective), but a website either has to make an educated guess based on unreliable/inconsistent information, or use some sort of bidirectional "heartbeat" check.

Have a system where it says something like, "Last active: 7:33 AM PDT in the Community forum" giving the time they were last active and a link to their last post instead of just a date, where the time given was the last time the user loaded a new page, made a post, or sent a PM. They could be considered overall active if they have posted somewhere or sent a PM within the last 30 minutes.

Isn't ModStalker available for everyone? That's a shame that nobody heard of it before. It's probably too mainstream now these days.

It doesn't work very well and doesn't tell you if a mod is or isn't online.

Probably the same way every other website with this feature determines "online"...

I think even a slightly inaccurate indicator is still more accurate than no indicator.
