Basically the only tip you'll need to know: Learn to lead your shots. Compensate for that laggy server.

Another thing: strafe.

That's basically all you need to know. Someone else will go into more thorough detail about that later.

NOt only strafe, but vary it between going left and right... learn when to jump and when not to.

Always keep moving... otherwise you're a sniper snack

Rule 1: Move and keep moving

Rule 2: If you don't follow rule #1 you will die a lot.

Rule 3: If you follow Rule 1 but move straight at the enemy you will die. Try to move side to side

Rule 4: Lead your shots. This means aim a little (a few mm on your screen) ahead of where your target is. The netcode was miffed and the bullets lag in the game.

Rule 5: If you don't follow Rule #4 and shoot right at a moving target you will miss them.

Rule 6 Human weapons (pistol, A/R, Shotgun) are superior to the covenent weapons(plasma pistol/rifle, needler) because the rounds travel faster Exception is the Fuelrod cannon; it has a greater rate of fire, and ammo capacity and doesn't need to be reloaded.

Rule 7: Using the Fuelrod excessively will get you labeled as a 'n00b' because it is pretty easy to kill with the Fuel rod

Rule 8: Shotgun and A/R are primarily close range weapons. They will not be as effective at medium range.

Rule 9: The pistol is the best overall weapon. Accurate at medium-range and good at close range; if you master this weapon you will excel on-line.

Rule 10: Do not intentionally kill your teammates. It childish and ruins the match for everyone. Also if you have to go Away From the Keyboard for some time logout of the game.

Try those to start

Rule 10: Do not intentionally kill your teammates.Yes, because everytime you purposely kill your teammate God kills a kitten. Please, think of the kittens. [flamebait for catlovers]Oh wait, nevermind I hate kittens.[/flamebait for catlovers]

No but seriously. Teamkilling is stupid and plain not nice. Don't do it.

You could use the plasma pistol/AR combo, its effective at medium range

1. charge plasma pistol and knock the shields down

2. switch to AR and pwn their asss

Stupid parents let their stupid children play games that are rated M when they should be playing Big Birds Spelling Adventures

Also the AR is actually good in CQB now and no longer a glorified baseball bat.

My #1 tip: stay away from McKeegan. He will own anyone anytime.
Just playing McKeegan.

Anyway, I agree that you should lead and always move.
Also, try to learn how to use the vehicles and how to properly drive them.

OMG
Master Chief w/o his Helmet!

Stosh <3's me vicariously... at least someone does...

And don't be an ass or you'll get booted.

AR at close range works surprisingly well I might add. I actually prefer it over the shot gun since it lags so much.

Ya, if you acutually calculate the amount of rounds for them both to acutually kill something, the power is pratically the same. On average, it takes maybe 6 rounds firing 6 strong bullets to kill something, since the shotgun takes a second to fire one round, it takes 6 seconds to kill something. Now the AR can kill something in around 5-6 seconds unloading a full clip. So they're partically the same in terms of firepower. Shotgun has slower rate of fire but more damage per bullet. AR has speed and low damage. Its just how people see them, shotguns they take their shots and it's a shotgun, its meant for close range. But the AR is different, people just spray with it instead of aiming their shots. Now if you get around maybe 50 of your bullets to hit the person, it will take down their shields and you'll kill them.

Only if your target doesn't know you're there... or is in the gunner position of a driverless Hog. Or is too stupid to dodge.

don't forget the good ol' suicide gernade trick!

when you think you are about to die, throw a frag near your opponent's feet. chances are, because they are so intent on shooting/killing you, they won't notice it unitl too late. then they blow up.

my advice: learn to handle the M6D pistol well, and use its smart linked scopes at nessacery times, once you get the hang of it, you can just about hold your own against 2-3 people, heck maybe 4 if youre realy realy good, or youre realy realy lucky ;)

and as the others said, always, i mean ALWAYS stay mobile (unless youre an unspotted sniper) and not only do you have to constantly move for offensive tactics, but also on the defensive. when your shields are down and your near to death, its always useful to hide behind a boulder, a thick tree, or a trench-like landslide to prevent lead going into you, but dont stay in the hiding place for too long. if a grenade lands near your hiding place, or even lands 1cm away from you, youre as good as not hiding at all, so always stay mobile

hope my advice, (and the others' advices) helped, and welcome to the maw btw
