macdonald. Relax bro. No one will make you play the TU gametypes. I was just saying how happy I am with the way it plays. I have great memories about LAN games of CE when I was younger with all my friends. We'd spend hours doing that. And when I tried the TU, it reminded me of it in a way. When someone killed me, I was sure that I lost the fight because I was missing shots or they just plain out-played me. I haven't had that happen in a very long time. Thanks, 343.

I get the feeling they're going to force the old melee system on us though, and I for one love the new one.

I understand, but I've never played an fps where the melee system was perfect. There will always be problems with it. I remember how frustrated I'd get when someone AR rush meleed me in H3. Then in Reach, the new system seemed to be just as abused. And it isn't just Halo's problem. The rediculous COD commando knifing... I don't even need to comment on that one. BF3 is getting its fair share of melee complaints too. But punching aside, I'm having a blast with the changes.

While there is no such thing as perfect, I felt that Reach's was slightly better, if you're in the middle of a point blank fire fight you can't end it was a simple tap unless shields are down.

Would you elaborate a bit?

They're using the Halo 3 melee system in the beta playlist, in other words if you hit someone whose shields are half down you'll kill them, where as in Reach if you melee someone with a scrap of shield left they will survive.

Okay that's what I though you meant. Well I am happy melees have bleed again, the no bleed kinda ruined CQC, but I wouldn't mind the damage being reduced so melee is a three melee kill.

I...I guess that could work. Still prefer Reach though, I guess I'm not big on nostalgia.

My problems [with Reach] are basically just full parties, mlg, and people who go out of their way not to get killed.

For the sake of healthy debate I'm just going to ask you to justify your opinion.

Why should my 3 shots with a DMR plus a melee be the same as your one melee?

PSR = (((K+A)/D)*Win%)*120
The average player's PSR = 100

So what if I have a low K/D? I enjoy the game more than you do.

Which is what I though at first, I was really exited about the new system before Reach was released, but then I realized that CQC weapons that were non one shot, like the AR, were useless because if you took the time to shoot at your enemy then you would loose if he melee rushed you. In general CQC kinda just became a game of "Who meleed first?"

I'm enjoying it a ton =D No bloom has a very frenzied feel to firefights and the reduced bloom just makes everything a bit quicker. If I had to pick between the two at this moment I'd have to say reduced bloom is my favorite.

It feels like you're going in too quickly for the kill if you shoot a guy once or twice then melee him and he's on his ass wondering what had just happened. Not to mention in close range fights it tends to bring things to a grinding halt.

In other words, the original melee system is too fast and confusing for certain people?

I mean, not to beat a dead horse here but that's essentially crafting the game around people that the developers should not be listening to.

It's good. Bloom just made gunfights random which meant that even if you're good, you can still get outgunned by someone spamming the DMR(which I think we all know happened ALL THE TIME). Now that bullets go where you actually aim, the good players will win if they have better aim.

Although I need to play more, the guns might need the RoF slowed down a little bit.

Have you ever played call of duty? Have you ever had a guy run up to you while you were pumping bullets into his gut yet he killed you were a single knife swipe? That's what Halo 3 is like for me, except he just needs to shoot me in the toe a couple of times and get the first melee, and he will get the first melee because he's the one charging at me while I'm trying to blow his head off.

I enjoy 85% bloom a lot. No bloom is great too but, I just wish the ROF was decreased.
yes i agree with this guy 100%

Sometimes, but not always. If you throw a nade or shoot at a rushing enemy to drop most of an enemy's shields you can kill them with one melee while it would take them two hits to kill you. In this scenario you can win even if you hit second.

This is the CQC I enjoy, quick planning, tricking or trapping enemies, and then a hard finish usually delivered by a melee.

Feels like it's making Reach more like Halo 3, which is a step backwards to please the fanboys.

Glad to hear it, I love Halo 3 so excited to play it tonight =) Also it's not pleasing the fanboys. It's pleasing the real Halo players who know what real gameplay for a halo based game should be.

You just described a fanboy, except it should be what he THINKS is right.

I have around 48 nukes in Modern Warfare 2. I know what it's like to get knifed and die. But one fundamental difference: they aren't the same game.

It is incredibly frustrating to fire my AA-12 or Spas 12 at someone, get a hit marker, and then get knifed by them. But another key difference here is: That is how the game works. Knife = instant kill.

When I'm one away from an Apache and get knifed I don't run to the CoD forums claiming I know what's best for their game. I got knifed. I shake it off and keep going. If I want to prevent getting knifed in the future I adjust my gameplay.

Perhaps I placed my Claymore improperly? Maybe I missed with my shotgun and the hit marker was only one or two of the rounds hitting him? Regardless, there is something I can do to prevent that from happening again.

Yes but it is a right a** and you can't help but feel that you shouldn't have to take extreme lengths to avoid a cheap death.

I guess that what most things come down too :D But i really miss the days in Halo 3 were I could turn tail and run in CQC and my enemy was left with two choices; chase me and die in an obvious trap or let me go and lose the kill. The Reach melee system kinda killed that.

Placing my claymore the right way or properly aiming aren't "extreme lengths".
