Subject: Couch Fishing Question

I was playing "Couch Fishing" the other day when I realized something. The objective of the level is to activate three switches which, acording to Leela,
make sure that Durandal cannot gain access to a vital section of the ship.
at the end of the level, Leela also says that the activation of the switches is important because
Durandal has been denied access to some of the critical computer systems. This should insure the mobility and reliability of the Defense Drones.

Now, the text that always bothered me a little is from the success terminal of "Try Again". Leela, after returning, says
Durandal's meddling has run its course and I have returned to normalcy. Neither he nor the S'pht infiltrators ever discovered my real location in the core, and though they destroyed nearly all of my child processes, I myself am unharmed.

This text implies that Leela hid her real location away or protected herself somehow. So my question (or rather my theory) is that upon learning of Durandal's rampancy (which she first discovers on the previous level and first relates to us at the begining of "Couch Fishing"), did Leela send us on a mission for her own self-preservation, and, by activating those switches, did we secure her hiding place in the core without knowing it?

Just some rampant speculation to chew on. I never did trust Leela myself. If this has come up before, I apologize for the repetition, but I didn't see any mention of it on either the marathon story page or the marathon volunteers page.

Ach! Was ist los?

Marathon's AIs can move themselves from system to system, unlike Halo's. I think Leela was moving from one CPU to another on her own, while the hero's mission on Couch Fishing was merely to make sure the defense drones remained on-line, since that system was probably limited to a fixed subnet.

--Mr. Smith always thought of Leela as the only trustworthy character in the whole of M1.

Yeah. I still can't fully justify how Leela (a seemingly non-rampant AI) could hide in a computer net saturated by Durandal (a very rampant AI) and still avoid detection. Unless he just didn't want to waste time on the side trip of rooting her out completely, since he was ultimately planning on leaving the Marathon anyway and didn't care if she was still there in some form.

The hidden terminal on blaspheme quarrantine seems to suggest he has a crush on her - or something.

I'll see if I can dig it up.
