What a waste....

Just started. If you didn't even touch a thesaurus I will be amazed and will probably JIMP

  • 11.24.2011 11:53 AM PDT

This is great work. I'm writing book and that is the thing that will make me finish writing. I'm saving this thread. Thank you so much.

Wow, sudden smorgasbord of comments! Thanks for the reviews everyone, they mean a lot! Blade246 and Master Chief, glad you enjoyed!

Renewman, hope you manage to get around to finishing it. Nocble, yes, I did use the Thesaurus now and then, haha, so no need to JIMP. Word of the Days are a great source of finding out words that you never really hear as well. But my imploding brain had delivered most of the out-of-ordinary vocabulary used here :) I guess I should give a shout-out to my English teacher and all those books I read...

And Gametester, thanks! That means a lot to me, to know my work has helped others, haha.

Bloodguard; Glasslands was... eugh. Some parts were pretty interesting; mainly the human bits. They gave off a more personal feeling and I enjoyed those a fair bit. But then we go to the Elites, and that just plummeted. I was really disappointed with how they were portrayed; felt almost... childish? I don't know; maybe Traviss should just familiarise herself with them a bit more.

Whoosh, most replies I've ever done at once! And FINALLY, IT'S A HOT TOPIC WOOOO!@#!@#!@#!@#

Hey, congrats on the hot topic. I just finished posting my fan fic today, so I know how good it feels to wrap a story like this up. Way to go!

Reads like a piece of descriptive writing, not a story. Not even that, more like a thesaurus with narrative embedded within. Using synonyms and complex vocabulary is all well and good but when your writing is completely drenched in it then it ceases to become entertaining and just reads like a dictionary.

You're like this.

Yeah, I have to agree with you as well, re-reading it now. Thanks for the tip. I think I'll be easing down on the complex words in the future haha, would save me a lot of headache as well.

Huzzah. Had a rush for writing. Managed to conjure up a page or two.

And then the fire died D:

But at least there's progress!

Reading all of these short stories, novels, etc., it really inspires me to write a novel like this. Although I am a great writer, a lack knowledge of Halo's canon and universe holds me back.

I also lack enough time to write such as story and would take me a great amount of time to write. School, my social life, and other personal things really hold me back, and people who have the abililty to get around all of this and write such a novel like this one is pretty impressive!

Again, nice job, OP. And I hope to see some works from you like this in the near future!

You should try to! Granted, I am a Halo junkie, and love reading the books, but to write a good halo story, you really don't even need that much knowledge.
Just write about what you know (and what aspect of Halo that interests you the most; that's what I did), and the story will turn out great, I am sure.
It's like I always say to readers: If you want to write a story that people want to read, all you have to do is write a story that you want to read.
Granted, however, the time issue is always a -blam!-, and there is really no getting around that ;)

I will take this into consideration. I have always wanted to write a short story about Halo and get some feedback from Halo fans who are reasonable intellegant about the Halo universe.

In fact, I may just spend a few days gathering some background information about Halo itself and maybe even read a few chapters from each of the novel, (I have a friend that owns every single novel).

If a ever do decide to write this story, it will probably take 2-3 weeks to write, revise, edit, and then post on here. Remember this: You are my inpiration for this, and maybe it will pay off? :-)

Anyways, this is sort of off topic, may the thread continue!

Well, should you find the time, I would love to read it. And think of it this way... It couldn't be any worse than mine! :)

Wow, thanks everyone!

I don't know what to say... just glad I could help inspire some with my writing!

Blade, just go ahead and do it when you have the spare time. There's really not much rush with it; when you have some spare time, and you're bored, writing's a great pastime. If it gets too hectic, don't force yourself.

Thanks again to both of you!

Merry Christmas guys! Have a great day!

I am not sure if I have asked you this, but will we be seeing any more stories from you? I have lately seen a lack in novels posted in this forum and since reading this one have been searching for some more to read.

Merry Christmas to you, too! :)

  • 12.24.2011 12:46 PM PDT

You will definitely! I've been trying to start writing again lately. I have a newer novel entirely planned out, and it'll span quite a few pages this time (hopefully). Thing is, I've only written about half of the first chapter, if that...

But I'll get cracking now!

There's no way Nate Hawbaker's favorite hero is Alan Stuart

ALAN IS A BEAUTIFUL MAN!

This is amazing. I didn't take the time to read the whole shebang, but what I've read looks mighty impressive. Very good job.

And Bloodguard, I don't know if I should feel more threatened by the 'you better' or the winky face.
