If you seriously have a problem reading what someone is posting cause he didn't press backspace/delete before he began typing, you should really reconsider if you should be posting on the internet.
That's it? That's honestly the best you can do? You were so vocal the rest of the time, too.

Inconsistency in layout is just about one of the worst crimes you can commit in web design. It makes the page ugly, it makes it harder to read. Even one as uncomprehending as yourself must see that. Why you continue to defend it as adequate despite that is perplexing, to say the least.

I don't know what your problem is. I'm not trying to be vocal, I'm not trying to attack you, I'm not trying to criticize you, I'm not trying to vent/flame/bash or anything. I'm just stating a simple fact:

It's not a big deal.

I'm just stating a simple fact:
You aren't the arbitrator of fact, you are, in simple fact, wrong.

Even if it isn't a big deal, it's still a little deal, and then it's a little deal that is repeated, inconsistently, thousands of times per day. That makes it a big deal.

Even if it weren't a big deal, it's such an obvious low-hanging fruit that it should've been fixed immediately after it was introduced. One can only hope that the only reason it hasn't been fixed is because, at some point in the near future, this whole archaic forum suite is going to be scrapped in favour of something a lot more modern.

It's not a big deal.
If it's something that can be fixed with a couple clicks and keys, then I consider it one.

I've seen multiple users put the reply above, and I can understand their reasoning for it.

Case and point: don't worry about it. Girls start getting boobies pretty soon, and then you'll have plenty of other things to think about. Being an Inheritor is not a life goal.

I've gotten so used to deleting the space that I don't even recognize when I do it anymore.

As far as people leaving it in, I don't even notice. It's not like it is colored in bright pink or something to draw your attention away from the post. I think y'all are overreacting to it, "Oh it's an eyesore!" No, no it really isn't. You don't complain when someone spaces out paragraphs or their thoughts. I actually don't mind the way it spaces out the quotes a bit, makes them easier to read in my opinion.

Whatever gave you this impression? Over-use of line breaks is one of my favourite rants.

So now you're going to move your parameters from any one other than Achronos to Reach and Flood forums? You might be getting a little desperate.

I still don't get what the problem is, and moreover why it seems to piss off so many of you. I honestly have no idea what quote space you're talking about.

Fine. Find 10 posts from 10 different users on any forum that quote this specific way.

Then come back sure I can tell you that only 10/1000+ users quote that way.

That's nice. So why attack me? I just said I have seen multiple people do it, and I can understand their reasons to do so. Then you just start jumping on me.

  • 10.06.2011 7:15 PM PDT

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

Just press backspace. Though, that is really annoying.

I'm not attacking you. You're just making it sound like a large amount of people quote like that when, in reality, that's not at all true.

"I have no words that would do justice to the atrocities you commit to the English language, as well as your continued assaults on the concepts of basic literacy and logical reasoning."

To clear a few things up:

1. I quote like I do because I tend to type what I want to say, then press quote, then press submit (with my cursor at the bottom of the post). That's it. I don't need to see what I'm replying to while I'm typing it twice. Pretty simple, really.

2. I really don't care how people post their quotes.

3. What you're seeing is likely just a bug in the text processor and/or stylesheet (the thing that parses the profanity, bbcode, and other things you guys try and put into the forums). It isn't the only one - other notable issues include the invisible characters not counting as whitespace (a bug that is also not fixed).

4. The reason it wasn't fixed in the past is because it is considered an incredibly minor bug, and to fix it we'd have to touch an already fragile area of our code. In the risk/reward valuation, we have better things to do. More so than ever, now, given that all our time is devoted to the The Next Big Thing, and not on fixing little bugs in forum code that is likely not long for this world.

So, until such time as The Next Big Thing is upon us, you're going to just have to deal with it. Sorry about that.

Well that clears it up. I don't think that we've ever gotten an explanation as to why that space was there before. I didn't pay too much attention to it, but thanks from clarifying.

I never said a large number. I'm well aware most do not post that way.

Then I don't see what the big deal is. If you have no idea what you're shooting down, than why act like an asshat as if nobody should care about the problem, you have no idea what it even is.

This bug popped up not that long ago, though. I feel like it started happening after some minor update with the forums.

I had absolutely no clue it was a bug and wasn't a feature.

It's settled.

Also, "The Next Big Thing"? Have you possibly hinted at a brand new forum layout being released as an update, along with, possibly, the announcement of the new IP?

Silence, mighty Achronos has already spoken too much on the subject of which you inquire. We musn't speak of it here, there are dire penalties leveled to such folly. Mighty one please forgive my colleague of his temporary bout of foolishness.
