Subject: Is posting too much a bannable offense?

"You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space." -Johnny Cash

One of the examples in the forum rules under the category of spam is, "Creating pointless threads as part of a "mass" or "organized" spam attack." Would posting too much to a forum, or multiple forums, be considered a mass spam attack? If not, many people regard it as spamming, so why isn't it a bannable offense?

Creating pointless threads is spam and is bannable.

Creating threads with actual discussion value is not spam and is encouraged.

Feel free to send me messages, please be willing to wait 6-8 years for a reply.

1-7 hours if you at least tried to make it readable.

Immediately if you are Yax, Telec, or legendary.

Never if you are mythic, you guys smell funny.

I think it all depends on the quality of the threads and messages you post, is creating lots of topics to discuss such a bad thing if they encourage mature discussion such a bad thing?

Life?
I have the internet and Doctor Who; i don't need a life.

i imagine as long as what you post relates to the topic then it doesn't really matter he many times you post - so long as you're not the only one posting.

Thanks from the feedback everyone. I just wanted to ask this question for future references, as well as to clarify if it fell under the forum rules as a bannable offense. It seems that it doesn't, but you have to be careful about what you post or it could become a bannable offense.

as long as the thread is discussion worthy you can post as much as you want (even though the thread limit per day us 7). Same goes for replying to threads. You can post as much as you want as long as you follow the rules and the post goes with the thread.

Indeed it is. I know a lad who got banned for posting too much; permanently banned, in fact. Long story short, he posted to an extent where when a certain moderator opened up this members post history, it crashed his browser.

To summarize, the member was accused of 'messing with the system,' thus earning him a rather substantial period of time in timeout. Eventually, he sorted things out with the moderator, and had the ban appealed, but you get the point of my story, I hope.

Happy posting!

“Strange,” mused the Director, as they turned away, “strange to think that even in Our Ford’s day most games were played without more apparatus than a ball or two and a few sticks and perhaps a bit of netting. imagine the folly of allowing people to play elaborate games which do nothing whatever to increase consumption.”

If it isn't, it should be.

I hate you unless I'm drunk.

No, you cannot be banned for posting too much.

You can however be banned for spam, which if you post constantly, adding no real discussion to the topics, merely to boost your PPD, or whatever the kids are doing these days, I'm sure a ban will ensue eventually.

Its really up to the moderator to discern if your posts are adding something to the discussion or if you're merely posting to post.

To the extent of my knowledge

I spend too much time here.. too much time indeed.

I tweet?

Anyway, as it's been said already, you can not be banned for simply posting too much. The offense will be found in the content.

With that being said I'm looking for someone to break the 1000 PPD mark.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Depends on the content you post.

If it were simply for the fact of posting, I'm sure most Fabled Members would have been banned dozens of times.

I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

You cannot be banned for posting too much if what it is you are posting legitimately adds to the discussion you are taking part in. Now, if you are posting a lot and it is off-topic or has nothing to do with the topic then yes, it is possible you will be banned.

How much posting is too much posting?

An excessive amount of threads is frowned upon by the community though.

I wouldn't say "frowned upon". I've browsed several intriguing threads in the Flood before and realized they were all by the same author. It really depends on the forum as well. It may be a bit of an annoyance to see four or five threads posted by a single author here in the Septagon, but you might not even notice elsewhere.

Why?

Regardless of the answer, that is not at all relevent to the question that was asked by the OP.

Bannable? nope.

Does it make you appear annoying? Sometimes, yep.

"That's about all that can be said for plots, which anyway are just one thing after another, a what and a what and a what.

Now try how and why."

As a general rule, you will probably never be banned for posting an intelligent, well organized post with proper grammar and spelling in the correct forum.

If you can do those things, you don't have much to worry about.

Only regret is I didn't play more of it.

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm sort of a jerk.

It can be very annoying, but not bannable.

People with a abnormally high PPD are usually spamming at some point. If you find yourself posting a lot in a particular forum at a particular time, try to sit back and evaluate what it is you are posting. To see whether or not you are actually contributing to a thread or if you are giving short, meaningless replies.

Chances are, if you are posting a whole lot some of it is pointless aka spam. But as long as you are not causing a problem or intentionally spamming, you should be ok. In my experience a ban for too much posting is pretty rare (at Bnet and many other forums)

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten
