Since Bungie went dark, how do you think the community has changed, and do you feel these changes positive, or negative?

I think the activity of the community has decreased, which is reasonable, as there is less Bungie related material to discuss and some members have left.

However, I am undecided as to whether this is actually has a negative effect on the community. Although there is less discussion, and fewer members, I think it has probably allowed me to notice and get to know more members, which I may not have been able to do had there been greater activity.

So, what are your thoughts on this?

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Nothing really changed, we still get trolls and all that.

Based off personal experiences alone, I would say it has changed me positively. Since Eric quit writing the Weekly Updates, as well as updating the Com Chatter, I haven't been as anxious to get to this site.

In the past, I would rush through my school work, keep my family waiting, etc., simply because I was so concerned about what would happen next on this website. Lately, since there hasn't been too much going on, things have been much better in my life outside of the internet.

All in all, I would definitely say that Bungie's 'Going Dark' has affected me positively, and has helped me adapt to a more moderate lifestyle. Hopefully, when/if they return, I will still be able to maintain that run-of-the-mill way of life.

Let's just hope they don't plan on doing something too interesting.

Yeah, I think so.

I drifted away for a bit but decided to return, and stay.

Also, less trolls is always good.

I feel like the septagon is becoming a bit more of a tight knit community. The Reach forums abandoned for the lack of interest in complainers, the other game forums all but forgotten, the hype from the crimson forum having died off, and the flood being a wide open forum where it's almost impossible to get well noticed unless you make a lot of threads about [insert word that indicates who you like to have sexy times with] or religion that get Hot Topic'd.

The septagon holding strong with, at the most estimation, about 30-40 fairly active-, 40-50 recognizable but not HIGHLY active-, and 20-30ish "active-on-a-daily-basis" members, it feels like a closer community.

About the other forums, I pretty much addressed the other forums up top, (other than universe and classifieds, and from what I hear the former is a spammers paradise and the latter is all but vacant). I just need to add I guess that the flood seems to have taken the most marginal "hit" in activity since The Great Darkening.

I take that back! Employees seem to post more now. There, that is a change!

The defining characteristic of our community whether we still get tolls? In fact, it appears to me as if there are fewer trolls than there used to be, which is surely positive. No forum with such a large population can be tolls free.

But, do you not think anything else has changed, at all. Is the current community identical to the community a few months ago?

E.g. A few months ago, I only really posted in the Reach forum.

Yeah, ken. That's what the OP is talking about. The frequency with which people post for the sole reason to mess with other people on the site. Not the community, not the state of the flood forum, not the lack of news... but the number of trolls.

Another job well done.

Also, OT to your post, I've noticed a lot less trolls since The Great Darkening.

A lots changed. Activity has gone down, discussion has slowed down due to nothing new happening. We seen some people go dark during this time. I can't wait until the next project is announced and the life of this forum comes back. We need that spark back.

We'll always get trolls and that... it's the internet.

  • 10.07.2011 3:58 PM PDT

There comes a time in every mans life... and that time is not now.

Definitely a decrease in activity. Less informed users.

I haven't noticed anything changed.

That sounds pretty similar to me, except I still spend far too much time here. It sounds as if it has influenced you quite significantly, in a positive way, which is great.

This, along with the the rest of your post, seems like a pretty accurate description of the community, and is quite similar to what I was thinking. But, do you think these changes have benefited the community overall?

Well the Background of the site is much darker, LOL.

All the Halo Reach form users left.

The Flood remained the same, Community forum has a little bit less activity.

Much more Halo threads about the same thing in community forum.

Indeed it has. I have finally learned how to use something in moderation. And I know what you mean, man. I say I spend less time here than I did before, but that is still way too much.

I do think it has. A tightly knit community is never a bad thing especially when there's nothing much to talk about. Hence people grasping the thin field of air that is the group of topics we could possibly talk about in this time of unenlightenment and a less than exhilarating feeling of the forums overall.

This kind of community allows for a better understanding of respective members feelings towards certain topics (and members), their morals, their beliefs, their principles, etc... This kind of understanding of other human beings can only lead to more stimulating conversation on a personal level, which could come in handy when debate and speculation about Destiny becomes more legitimate.

We'll know how people think about certain things, making the conversations we have with them about certain things more personal, less abstract, and less random. We're no longer poking and prodding at topics we like, posting a response, and going away. We can actually have discussions as opposed to "hit and run opinion offerings and occasional checking to see if you got quoted".

Many of the Users that have not been here too long, they probably do not see any kind of changes. Users such as myself and others who have been here for about 3 or more years have probably seen A LOT of changes.

I think that the forums changed a lot when Halo: Reach came out. The forums were filled with noobies, which got me excited because I love welcoming new players to such a new game.

I do not recall such complaining in the forums until about November-December when people started whining about how "bad" Reach is and how it is not "Halo" anymore, and this is EXACTLY why i left the Halo: Reach Forums and started visiting these forums.

But anyways, since Bungie went "dark", the Halo Forums of course have not changed a bit, same as for The Flood as well. But The Community Forums are always going through such changes, so the word "change" is perfect for what this discussion is about.

just less activity on the "game" forums. the flood and community still seem about the same

I think the community is hurting (population and activity wise) from Bungie being dark mostly because of the fact that most people are impatient. It hasn't really effected me personally though.
