An interesting take on the thread... However, please try to remain slightly more on topic.
Whenever someone says 'The Darkness', i feel like saying 'I'm Rick James, -blam!-!'

Gotta love chappelle.

Also, i believe the act of me posting that link perfectly answers your OP.

It does? Could you elaborate as to how it answers the question in the OP?

I want Bungie to make another amazing game, not help other companies. I stopped coming here after Halo:Reach. I stopped playing Reach, so I guess I stopped coming here... I miss Halo 2 and 3.:(

Quite a few members from the Reach forum, like you, appear to have left, either because they dislike Reach, or because they moved to Waypoint. You can always have discussions in the Flood, the Community forum or in private groups.

Also, Bungie is making another amazing game (as well as helping other developers) and has been for quite a while. Helping out other developers can't slow down the production of their next game that much, and it means we get Bungie's new game, as well as other awesome new games, which Bungie helped to make. They can't finish Reach, then instantly reveal loads of information about their next IP, so you'll just have to be patient.

I want Bungie. :'(

Bungie is still there, they've just quiet. What exactly do you "want" them for? They're still participating in discussion. In fact, the other day, the majority of threads in the Community forum had the golden septagon next to them.

They may not be doing updates, but there's not going to be a lot to update us on. Aside from that, and finishing their new game, there's isn't a lot more Bungie can do which will affect the community (while still relating to them going dark).

I never left the Halo: Reach Forums because I did not like Reach. I left because those forums were full of the same exact bull crap about Armor Lock.

You can make this argument as much as you want, but the fact of the matter is that these people miss the "old Bnet", before Reach. In many peoples eyes it was a "better", simpler time.

Honestly, why do most people go on the internet in the first place? Because they're bored. And with the lack of anything going on here at the moment, I don't blame many people for leaving. Sure, I personally feel like they're missing out for leaving, but you have to see it through their prospective.

"You were willing to give the idea of change a shot, but you still didn't like how Reach turned out due to other reasons. You say to yourself, "sure I'll stick around to see whats happening next, maybe I'll even get hyped up like the good 'ol days. Then Bungie goes dark, and your left bored, again." If your not a dedicated member why stay?

just less activity on the "game" forums. the flood and community still seem about the same
Pretty much.

This is actually the stupidest thing ever posted on B.net:

Why does everyone hate Halo 2? Maybe its because its the worst game ever next to mario.

I actually like the suspense of being left in the dark about Bungie's new game.

This community will always change and morph, it's in its nature to do so. It is how this community has managed to survive for so long.

I must admit, I do not entirely understand what you are trying to get at. What makes it the "old" B.net, pre-Reach, which is so different to B.net post-Reach. The main thing Reach changed, is discussions, which I can see could get repetitive. Aside from that, and a slightly different community, I do not really understand what you mean by the "better," Bnet in the past.

I do not blame anyone either, it's entirely their choice. I do not, however, agree that there is a lack of goings on. There is still ample activity in the majority of forums, and I regularly see intriguing and original threads.

What do you mean by a "dedicated" member, or more, what is a member that is not dedicated? If a member who is not dedicated is only there for news, then I agree, there is little reason to stay. However, a large number of members enjoy discussions in the Flood, or in groups, which doesn't really require any dedication. These members won't necessarily get bored, as they can continue to have discussions, and so do have a reason to stay.

Personally, I used to log in only on Fridays to read weekly updates and check the forums for something of interest. Now, I'm here daily. Mostly because I don't want to miss anything new that might be announced.

So you've become more active since Bungie went dark? I probably have too, actually, but that's just because I'm trying to contribute more. I guess the community as a whole is less active, because quite a few members have left., not necessarily because individual members are less active.

Yes, I have definitely become more active since Bungie went dark. I'm the type of gamer that becomes loyal to good developers. Bungie is one of a short list, but they have the best site in my opinion, so I stick around here. The anticipation of their next game isn't all that high for me, simply because I have no clue what it might be, but the community keeps me entertained.

In few words, many people liked the way the forum users held themselves before Reach came out. It's wrong I know, classifying all post-Reach members as un-knowledgeable (had to make up a new word to explain myself) Halo fans, but it happens.

People just thought pre-Reach had a slower, more friendly environment. It's ironic really, now that those people are leaving, the forums are returning back to the slow, laid back status they left because they missed.

I lol'd at the absurd miscommunication that occurs whenever dibbs post something. Perhaps his brain is so highly evolved that he can no longer clearly communicate with lesser life forms, even among his own species.

Hold on to what the community is now; remember it without analyzing it. When Bungie eventually gets back into the swing of things and the forums gain some momentum again, think back to what the forums were like now and how much better they become when the community has a real topic to discuss. As far as experience goes here, you really do need to experience the lows in order to appreciate the highs (so count yourself lucky).

Yup. This site has remained the same since day one. And by "site" I mean overall community. Of course the look will change but the feeling never does.

I think that's why I keep coming back haha

  • 10.09.2011 1:53 AM PDT

it's over 7000x better, or maybe 70% better, or maybe 7.0x better, All I know is that people have calmed the hell down since the big bang (halo 2 and 3 forums) And people of the community galaxy have settled and condensed, from there some turned into stars, others planets (the average joe like you and me). Once in a while though you'll find other members gobbling each other up, And find threads expand and collapse. Just a natural order of things throughout the internet universe, But it was quite unnatural before.

  • 10.09.2011 2:14 AM PDT

ISU Cyclones!

It's a bit quieter. Reach hate stays in the Reach forum and doesn't spill over much. Same as the Halo 3 hate did after its own hype died down.

It's kinda nice though. Everyone who still visits the Community forum you know are still at least pretty big fans of Bungie to stick with them through this uneventful time. Flood is... well the Flood. Fun times.

But you can really feel how Halo is starting to fade away. Like a deep exhale.

Hello! I'm Bunie.net's resident medical student (hell i'm sure there are more but I'm the only one who openly declares it!) I love my emblem, and I am periodically active.
I have a Twitter

My activity has dropped off abit, but thats nothing to do with Bungie, just other circumstances, i think the community is getting closer though.

Since Bungie went dark, how do you think the community has changed, and do you feel these changes positive, or negative?

I think the activity of the community has decreased, which is reasonable, as there is less Bungie related material to discuss and some members have left.

However, I am undecided as to whether this is actually has a negative effect on the community. Although there is less discussion, and fewer members, I think it has probably allowed me to notice and get to know more members, which I may not have been able to do had there been greater activity.

So, what are your thoughts on this?

This community has decreased a lot. When it comes to this Forum, I like it a lot more. It's more like it used to be, a smaller, tight-nit group of people. When it comes to Forums like The Flood, and the gaming Forums, I miss the people...

Change, change never changes... wut?

At least the flood forum is for the lolz. This place seems like an arid desert to me.

  • 10.10.2011 9:15 AM PDT

ooga booga boooh

The Flood is still as active as ever. I see this area of the forum is far more quiet, and private groups aren't flourishing as they were around this time last year.

I mean, the changes aren't necessarily bad. I find that the true, die hard fans of the site are still coming here. And that's what counts to me. I still see the same people here I saw when I first began to come here regularly. Props to them.
