I understand liking a game for being fun, but when you have a bunch of idiots like Ben being bred by that game, well... that should speak for itself.

idiots like ben you say... but is it not you who comments on every post and HAS to say something against halo 2? i would rather an idiot who can accept that people can like other games than a genius that spends all his effort on putting down halo 2.

Yeah. That's right. I don't have a 50 in H3. I never got Onyx in Reach. If a game sucks too much, I won't even bother trying for such trivial "accolades". Besides, I've done way more things that take far more skill and talent than anything that can be done in a video game.

Hey, if you like the game, that's fine. I don't have a problem with anyone who can see past H2's psuedo-competitive presentation and just have fun with it. It's the morons who think the game takes skill that I have a problem with.

What do you say to those who enjoy Halo 2 because of it's story? You can't call them Stupid or Wrong, it is an opinion. Not everybody will treat FPS's as seriously as others.

For me, while I would say Halo 2 did play's a lot different to it's older brother, why on earth would I critize other's for their preference?

Isn't this just like the Pepsi Vs Coke arguement? Is there any real substance to the arguement other then people taste in games?

Omega, before you pull the grammar card I'm pretty sure english isn't this guy's first language.

Firstly, I wans't going to say anything about his grammar.

Secondly, English isn't my first language either. If you look at my Reach emblem (also my avatar over to the left) you will notice that it is the German flag. If this was a German forum then I would be speaking German, not English. Unfortunately, Ive been living in the United States since I was 8, but thats besides the point...

Also, its not that people bug me just because they like Halo 2. They bug me when they say they like Halo 2 and give me an idiotic reason for it. Those include the following:

"Halo 2 takes more skill."
No.

"Halo 2 is the hardest on legendary."
No it isn't. The game just requires you to memorize the levels instead of using just your skills.

"Halo 2 has more story."
Halo 1 had about the same amount of story as Halo 2. The only difference is is that it was focused around the events of the battle of installation 04, and, unlike Halo 2, the story wasn't force fead to you. You had to think to understand it in its entirety. (nerd moment...)

"Halo 2 is more fun."
Why? Because its easier to blow stuff up and get multikills? People these days... I suppose blowing stuff up isn't too bad...

"The game is longer."
In terms of levels, yes it is. However, those levels are much smaller than Halo 1 levels. Basicly it depends on if you are good at FPS. The majority of Halo 2 players arent.

/end rant

  • 10.12.2011 12:11 PM PDT

the game does take skill, it takes skill to get the gun to point where you want it to, instead of following everything that walks across the map, and Halo 1 levels were easier to memorize than halo 2 levels, halo 2 is more predictable though. on legendary, both games require a certain bit of memorization.

Don't start. There are two threads worth reading to help explain why Halo 2 (and 3 might I add) takes skill.

halo 3 is the same way (halo reach as well), both games were wonderfully done but the aim assist was always a little funky, never quite found that balance between too much and not enough.

Not with Halo 2's ridiculous aim assist and bullet magnetism.

See, this is why real FPS players, such as myself, can't take you people seriously. You know nothing about the genre outside of a selection of noobified game series that allow you to pretend to be good at something you're not.

I'll be sure to check to check people's reach emblems for national flags before saying something like that ever again.

And people do bug you just because they like the game. Otherwise you wouldn't be constantly dipping into the Halo 2 forum.

really dusk? really?

Nothing else you said in that paragraph justifies the complete stupidity of what I quoted from your post.

But by all means, try to deliver a rebuttal. Instead of, ya know, dodging the point entirely.

Unless that post was sarcasm, in which case make note of my inability to pick up sarcasm on the 'net.

rebuttal on what? that i agreed that the aim assist was too much and that they still haven't nailed the balance between too much and not enough? cause that's what i said, and you took the one part of anything i said that actually agrees with you and you are trying to turn it against me, you make no sense.

Are you serious? Dusk you are officially the most messed in the head person I have ever come across the internet. Honestly, are you on any sort of medication? I know I've confronted you with this before, but I mean this with the utmost concern. Have you ever had your head examined? I don't want to go on insulting you nonsensically if that is actually the case. If you have some illness please let us know. I'm really trying to understand this.

I don't know how many times I've come back to this board after a long absence only to see you spewing the same nonsense. "Halo 2 is a breeding ground for pretentiousness..." "halo 2 players think theyre good and im going to spend every day for the next 2 years telling them theyre not..."

I'm going to tell you something I dont think you seem to be grasping. This is such a small community. Based on two games with a very casual, nostalgic, mostly non-competitive scene. Yet for YEARS. Let me emphasize this: DAILY BARRAGES OF PATHETIC INSULTS FOR YEARS! You have been blabbing on mocking and ridiculing a hand full of players. A hand full of players.

You understand what a handful is dont you? It's not 100 players. Its not 500 players, certainly not 1000 players. Its probably like 5 guys who come on a regular basis. How is a board that has 5 regulars, and a game that has less than 100 people online at one time a breeding ground for anything?! Do you not know what a breeding ground is?

Let me make something perfectly clear for you: the amount of time and effort you put into grieving these guys is sad and pathetic. Is your real life that inadequate that you have to harass these people to no end? I'm going to say something I have never told anybody: get a friggin life! Holy crap...

I apologize if I went overboard, but quite frankly I am just dumbfounded that you are still harassing this board for all this time. That is some extremely unhealthy behaviour.

Something smells fishy...

I agree that Halo 2 PC requires skill. But In my opinion Halo Combat Evolved PC requires just as much if not more skill.

But skill is not my beef with Halo 2 PC. It's the technical issues with the game. I get some major choppiness unless I force on Vsync and Tripple Buffering. After perusing the web, it seems that many people have the same choppy problem.

Halo 2 PC is in dire need of a fix. But no fixing will occur because Microsoft basically provides zero support for the game.

Okay it's seems pretty obvious you're referring to Dusk. I know he makes you and WreckonerH mad but insulting him just adds fuel to the fire. A civilized debate will deteriorate rapidly if the debaters start insulting each other. And this debate has deteriorated.

Now that you and WreckonerH have participated in dealing out insults you are now just as much at fault as Dusk is.

It's obvious, eh? Well that's odd seeing as though it wasn't towards him directly at all. It's towards the entire Halo PC forum bickering about Halo 2. He doesn't make me mad one bit. I actually like the guy.

I'm not really on one side of this argument. Do I believe that Halo 2 in many ways was a failure? Yes. Do I think it's skilled? Hell no. Do I think it's still fun to play? Yes. Do I like the glitches? Yes, but I'd never say it adds to the competitiveness, just towards the "fun" aspect of doing them on purpose for laughs. Do I think it's insanity to go over this subject constantly on these forums? Yes. Do I think it belittles the greatness of Halo: Combat Evolved PC by constantly putting down Halo 2 instead of talking about Halo PC? Yes.

Look at the topic of this thread. The OP was just wanting to thank all who were responsible for Halo PC turning out so wonderful in the end. From the developers to the modders. It then degraded to another piece of -blam!- argument about Halo 2 being terrible. Everything in this forum turns into that now. Are any of you ashamed that this forum has degraded into this? I'm being serious... Is anyone a bit ashamed of that?

I get it. You baddies want to live in peace, content in pretending your game takes skill to play. But looking at a spade and calling it a circle is far more unhealthy than anything I do here.

I'll make it clear for everyone else: I have no problem if you can look at H2, see past its psuedo-competitive presentation, and just have fun with it. It's still a badly-designed game given that psuedo-competitive presentation, but if you can see past it and have fun with it, nuts to you. But thinking a game like H2 is skill-based just makes you an idiot.

It's not about the 7 anymore I'm all about the 8's and the 9's!

If we roll back to Halo 2 on Xbox Live, we get a game that dominated the scene for years. Looking back it had its flaws, but not one of these many flaws stopped the majority from playing the game. Superbouncing, Glitching out of the map, Sword Canceling, Dummying and then modding. They all happened but the community and friends made from this great game, made us look past all these issues, we didn't care about getting past the high level 40's, damn that was impossible with the amount of crap you had to go through, especially when blue screen would hit you about 3 out of 10 games in matchmaking.

I do not attack anyone who states "oh Halo 2 need more skill then X,Y,Z etc" Please please remember that these are all video games and the main point I want to get across to this vast angry audience is that, everybody is different. So please stop this feeling of being greater then all those that disagree with you. If you want everyone to be the same, become a shepard, I'm sure you'll soon have a flock of sheep following you, until of course you turn on them.

Please, let's apperciate our own tastes as well as others

I don't agree that Halo Combat Evolved PC is belittled when people put down Halo 2 PC. I believe it seems that it makes the person who engages in the putting down of Halo 2 PC less respectable. But that loss of respect doesn't usually reflect poorly on Halo Combat Evolved PC as a game. On the other hand when people put down Halo Combat Evolved PC it makes them less respectable as well. But that also doesn't seem to usually reflect poorly on Halo 2 PC.

I don't think bringing up Halo 2 sucking belittles Halo PC. I think having nothing but saying Halo 2 sucks in the forum and no mention of anything positive towards Halo PC is. How does it look when someone comes here and only sees hate for Halo 2. Yes, there is often praise for Halo PC, but it's only when comparing it to Halo 2 furthering the argument that Halo 2 sucks.

I'll mention something I liked recently. I got on a server the other day and saw that someone made many custom gametypes through server script editing. What really caught my eye was a version of "One in the Chamber" from CoD. It actually fit really well with Halo PC. It's great to see things like that still popping up to freshen the experience.

^Talking about those sorts of things would be a hell of a lot better than this worn out discussion. Then again, I ought to be partly to blame as everyone else due to not making a thread myself. I just assumed it wouldn't be worth the effort seeing as though it would devolve into another Halo 2 hate fest.
