Subject: The report button should be on the top of someone's post

Well, the Flood got hit by another Shane Dawson attack, and you gotta scroll a long time to get down to the report button. This isn't too big of a problem on my PC, but on my tablet it takes me ages. I think it should look something like this. It isn't a box, because that would look awkward.

I took out groups, because I'm not sure if many people use that, but groups could be added to the dropdown instead of being on the member bar. Of course what I made doesn't have to be what Bungie uses.

On another note, I think when you report a post it should hide it for you, because sometimes it takes a while for it to be hidden, and I have to either scroll for literally 30 seconds on my tablet, or on my PC close my eyes and scroll down to avoid meatspin coup. Either this, or on the dropdown they could add a hide post button separate from report.

So what do you guys think about this?

You see that "End" button on the right of your keyboard? Use it. It's too difficult to change the locaion of that already conveinantly placed button.

Key

Just press "End" and then go from the bottom... it'll be MUCH faster.

I'm not sure how long it would take Bungie too change it, considering they might have a different system than me, but to change something this simple on my website would take about 5 minutes. They already have the javascript for it, so all they have to do is delete the button, change the groups name to report user, and add the javascript command to it.

Thanks, but my tablet doesn't have this button.

Oh... my B.

...

Hey! Wait a second! You have a tablet, yes? Just scroll through really fast. Give it a good flick. That's the equivalent of an end button, and its fun as hell.

*sees shane dawson post*
*is mad*
*flicks to get to bottom*
*Weeeeeeeeeeeee!!!*
*is happy*

You don't understand, it takes me literally at least 30 seconds to scroll through it and it actually tires my finger. One good flick doesn't do it.

I'm not looking for an already solution, I came up with my own and was wondering what you guys thought.

I think it would look more professional as well, considering the report button looks a bit out of wack compared to the other ones.

Generally you need to read the post to know whether it needs to be reported, so I don't think it's a good idea.

What tablet do you have? I'd like to make sure not to get it. A touchscreen device should at least have scrolling momentum. :/

It has scrolling momentum, just not enough to make it that far. I mean the scrolling bar on the right is almost invisible.

And you can read it then hit the button?

Philosophically, it makes sense to be at the bottom. It would mean your eyes have reached the bottom of the post; you've read it; you've comprehended it; you're capable of deciding whether or not its "report-worthy".

"Philosophically" someone would read the post before reporting. They see the report option, and they think "Oh, I can report this post if it's inappropriate." Then read it and say "Yep, I better hit that report button."

If someone clicks it by accident the confirm window pops up.

I still think it makes more sense ideologically (I used a betterer word dis thyme) to have it at the end. And it makes it look more like they're encouraging the comprehension and complete reading of a post before reporting. This is, instead of:

"Oh loox! Dis post is bai drummer0702! I dun liek him. Hae loookit that! A report buttin rigt ther! *click*"

P.S. I'm just using you as an example drummer. You're literally the first user (other than another one I wanted to use but I didn't because it would be mean) that popped into my head. ily.

Yeah, that's where I was going with that. It can technically be anywhere, but I think the ideal position is at the bottom, where it implies "Would you like to report the post you just read?"

I also don't think that the number of cases where this is a problem (super long posts being read on a tablet with no quick-scroll ability) justifies the change.

And finally, it sounds like most minor changes are off the table right now since the forums are due for a major change in the somewhat near future.

P.S: "Psychologically" probably would have worked too in this case.

Conflicting philosophies =/= good philosophies.

And there's no reason to go in and change something when the change could possibly created a bug of some sort when the situations in which shane dawson posts can't easily be bypassed are so few and far between.

Don't fix what ain't broken.

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

I guess you'll just have to not report then, I think that's what it is encouraging.

"Don't fix what ain't broken" should not apply to technology at all, much less websites. You need to keep improving things if you can.

I think top and bottom would seem a bit... overkill. Also, I don't really give a -blam!- how "philosophically" correct the button placement is, I'm trying to make it useful. And being at the bottom of a mile long post is definitely not useful.

Again, your example of you being on a tablet with no scroll momentum where it's difficult to scroll through a shane dawson post is so obscure that it's not even worth looking into, quite frankly.

Anyone else could either do one quick flick scroll through or press the "End" button. Bypassing the annoyance within the space of 2-3 seconds at the MOST.
