Subject: Dear Bungie, You made a mistake, Please Read.

In Halo: Reach, Noble Team is comprised of Spartan III's right? Yet they are equipped with Mjolnir armor. This is your mistake. Throughout the novels, it is stated that the Spartan III's are equipped not with Mjolnir, but SPI suits. Explain? Thanks, Contender42.

They're special like that.

  • 10.08.2011 7:14 PM PDT

I just wanted to know if Bungie did that purposely, or if it was just an honest mistake.

I'm not like the people at the Reach Forum, I swear. Also, I don't just play Halo: Reach anymore.

I made this account a couple weeks after getting Halo: Reach. I never ever played a halo game before, so I thought this would be a good username. I was wrong, so hoplessly wrong, and I wish I could change it. But I must push on...

FOR NARNIAAAAAAAAA!

They are SPARTAN III's, but they are much more advanced than normal SPARTAN III's. I'm not getting to in depth with this, but that's just the basic.

S-IIIs can wear Mjolnir. Noble team is a special S-III team (with Jorge) so they get the good stuff.

I am a monument to all your sins

Noble team is an elite unit of S-IIIs so they are given top notch gear i.e. Mjolnir

My very helpful thread: Here. It explains, in detail, the differences between Spartan II's, III's, and NOBLE Team.

Summary:

- Spartan II's were drafted from an extremely selective gene pool.
- Spartan III's were drafted from a wider gene pool.
- When the Spartan III's were screened, they found that a few of them had Spartan-II quality DNA. These Spartans were pulled out of their companies, issued MJOLNIR armor, and dubbed NOBLE Team. These Spartan III's are almost on parr with Spartan II's.

I believe Bungie has stated in the past that the Novels are theirs, and not technically part of their story cannon...I can't recall for certain though.

This is the only thing in Reach that actually fits with the cannon.

I have read all of the novels, short stories, and played all of the games, and nowhere does it say anything about an even more elite group of SIII's except the Headhunters in Evolutions.

This is officially either the greatest or worst thing to ever happen to Star Wars. I'm going with the former.

It has nothing to do with the DNA.....

I'm pretty sure ALL of the Spartan III's could have used MJOLNIR armor, but they weren't, for several reasons.

-MJOLNIR is extremely expensive. Outfitting all of the Spartan II's cost the same amount as a battle group, I believe it was stated. Outfitting even one of the Spartan III groups would have cost many times that, resources that the UNSC was unwilling to use on the more expendable Spartan III's, hence the SPI armor, a cheaper, yet still effective solution.

-The Spartan III's, though from a less select gene group, were basically on par with the Spartan II's augmentation wise, as the enhancement techniques had evolved since the Spartan II's were produced.
Project CHRYSANTHEMUM

-Finally, Noble Team, and presumably Echo and Gauntlet Teams, were provided with MJOLNIR armor because they were experienced units that were given MJOLNIR as to enhance their combat effectiveness.

It has nothing to do with the "less select" DNA.

If you could find something that tells us that they cannot use Mjolnir or are forbidden to use Mjolnir, then there might be an issue. Just because it is not given to them does not necessarily mean that they cannot use it. That is the flaw in your reasoning.

There's nothing on there that contradicts a single thing I said.

All it says relating to MJOLNIR is that some of the Spartan III's are being equipped with MJOLNIR, thus being outfitted like the "regular" Spartan II's.

Actually it says "You know as well as I do that we wind up with some that she would have chosen--not just kids unlucky enough to survive a glassing"

The she Kurt is referring to is Halsey and the people she would have chosen are children with the same ginetic qaulitys of a SII.

Although I agree with what you said about the same quality augmentations used to achieve a similar result to SII in SIII, The genetic screening for SIII was much less refined than that of SII screening.

what you must realize is this; the books are completely different from the games in many ways. Eric Nylund and the rest of the authors behind the books may have written a very strong history for the halo universe, but Bungie created the games, thus giving them the power to do whatever they want with the games. For instance, In "The Fall of Reach" Master Cheif is actually fighting against the convenant in space towards the end of reach, and he ALREADY has Cortana with him, yet in the game, Master Cheif is asleep (look up the easter egg to see it) and Cortana is given to Commander Keys, to give to Master Cheif, when Dr. Halsey had already given her to him by then (in the book) so there are some strong differences, and they could do whatever they wanted with reach. They made the prequel the way they wanted to, not the way the books said to.

Cortana was with John during Halo: Reach too, she was just divided, and according to the data released by 343 the story fits with The Fall of Reach.

...REGARDING THE DNA...

Yes, all Spartan III's are capable of wearing MJOLNIR. They weren't all issued it because it would be too expensive to make that many sets of armor.
BUT, they handed out MJOLNIR to the best qualified Spartan III's, to ensure their money didn't go to waste. These Spartan III's had the best quality DNA, DNA that was "Spartan II quality".
Hence, NOBLE TEAM was created.

I thought that would be a common sense thing, but I guess I did have to explain it.
(You gunna hand out expensive battle armor? Give it to the best qualified. Duh.)

Clearly, none of you read my thread where I STATE THAT III'S ARE CAPABLE OF WEARING MJOLNIR. Seriously people, read the links before commenting.
