Just to tell you, Achronos just got a list of offensive words from windows or something. So, I don't think he actually manually put in offensive words to censor.

Does Microsoft have a forum I can repost this in then?

We’re flawed because we want so much more. We’re ruined because we get these things and wish for what we had.

I was just wrapping up my yearly Yom Kippur tradition, when I came across this.

Censoring the word primarily used to insult or to describe a minority of people's -blam!- orientation != Censoring that group.

See, censoring the group would involve not allowing same-sex oriented people to talk at all.
This just censors the word used to describe their orientation, which is fine, because that topic has no place here.
Nobody uses that word in any other way. Not since freaking Mark Twain.

The other "minority groups" you mentioned are literally colors and/or ethnic groups, which are not always minorities.
Those are normal words for conversation.

I know there's not much to talk about right now, but you can do better than this.

That wouldn't be necessary. I think he just copied them or something. I'm sure he can manually enter which words to censor and which words not too. He just ignores our complaints.

So, a long complaint thread about the filter.

Original threads gonna come up any time soon? Doesn't look like it.

Not about the entire filter. I'm ok with most of it. Just not the whole unfair censoring of minority groups. I'd laugh so hard if people ever did start using "Jew" or "Black" in place of the G word and Bungie started censoring them as well. Of course, it would be just as wrong, but I'd laugh for a second, none the less.

Jew is usually not used offensively.

Black is a color. The fact that you're using it as an example of another word that should be censored 'as long as the g word is' is ridiculous and obviously not a well thought out argument at ALL.

The g word is hardly used in a constructive discussion due to the nature of the internet being a bunch of 12 year olds who don't know how to carry on a civilized conversation without saying that someone else is of a minority group who happens to have a certain "boom boom happy times" preference that maybe said 12 year old doesn't. Find me a situation where the "g word" has been used in a productive discussion that hasn't gone downhill (very quickly).

Case and point: don't worry about it. Girls start getting boobies pretty soon, and then you'll have plenty of other things to think about. Being an Inheritor is not a life goal.

Honestly, there are so many other words that are meant to be used in a non-offensive manner, but people still use them in offensive ways. Such as ass, or dick. But how come, if these words can be used offensively, why are they not censored as well... Only that little G word is.

Yes, all of the groups I mentioned are also, minority groups.

I just think its not right that Bungie censors only that word. Wait do they censor -blam!- as well?

Yep, they censored the L word as well... Next thing you know they'll censor "Brony" Lol.

I don't find ass or dick being used a whole lot as insults. The Flood is actually pretty good about keeping those words out of the topic actually.

Yes, they are minority groups, should you be offended that you're a part of a minority group? "You're Mexican!" "Why yes sir I am, thank you for noticing."

They censored the L word? Lame, nope still there.

Yet that game developer's website has an off topic forum.

One forum out of several? The members of this site have already proven they can't handle responsibility, so they have to have guidelines to go by.

It shouldn't matter, they are still used as insults as well.
And seriously, I'm pretty sure you know what I meant. The L word that you would call a woman who is a homos3xual.

Unfortunately this is true.

We need a madness to the method!

I know Achronos got the list from some other source, but he has to be able to change the list at least... I cannot imagine it's more complicated then a Regex or a text file with the censored words.

I lol'd at the absurd miscommunication that occurs whenever dibbs post something. Perhaps his brain is so highly evolved that he can no longer clearly communicate with lesser life forms, even among his own species.

You're doing it wrong. I applaud you advocating for equality when it comes to sexual orientation. What I disagree with is the fact the you present your argument like an insufferable child. You stifle conversation by immediately taking the offense and assuming an us vs. them attitude. Change happens through engaging in thoughtful dialog; not accusing those who are capable of enacting the change you seek of being ignorant and hypocritical.

Before I might have agreed with you that the filter shouldn't include this word, but seeing as how you cannot even muster the will to discuss the topic without lacing every word you type with emotional rage, perhaps it is better that it's censored (for now at least). It would do you well to remember that you are one of the biggest obstacles to changing that.

I appreciate your input. I have to disagree with you, however.

In my experience, this is one of the few sites that I've ever seen where the majority of mods/admins or people who can actually enact the desired change, are simply too ignorant or childish themselves, to listen to reason or logic.

Thanks anyway.

P.S. If you think that what I said is true, for the most part, then you should still agree with me, how I present it shouldn't change your opinion of the matter at hand anyway.

I'm pretty sure it's because you can have a conversation regarding the word Jew without it being used in an offensive manner.

Now, -blam!- can be used in a non offensive manner, but more often than not it's being used as an insult.
My thoughts as well.

But isn't discussion of religion against the rules also? Just saying

He's right though. Presenting your appeal in such a way isn't the most convincing way to bring change. Being sarcastic and insulting will put people off, whether you are right or wrong.

I don't see how I was being insulting in the OP. Hmm, let me read over it again.

EDIT: Yea, I am sorry. But I don't believe that I was being inuslting or childish. I was just trying to present my view a different way. Instead of just complaining, I suppose I tried to put it in a, I don't know how to word it, kind of like a story.

I'm sorry. I worked like 8 hours today and have had about 5 hours sleep in the past 2 days and my allergies are killing me. Point? My head is so foggy and -blam!- up right now. Hahaha

Posted by: Xeno ProdigyThere isn't a single person in this thread who has accurately explained why "-blam!-" is filtered instead of "dick" or "ass".

The latter two words do not evoke emotional responses anywhere near the same level as "-blam!-" does. It isn't about them being insults, it isn't about fair or unfair; it is about keeping people in these forums from going at one another over nothing. When "-blam!-" is posted the probability of a flame war erupting is extremely high. The word means a lot of things for a lot of people and there is A LOT of emotion behind it (as shown by your OP). That is not the same for the other words you used as examples.

This site likes to promote some sense of community and fraternity. The word being uncensored provides for more opportunity for that ideal to be shattered.

I just can't agree with you or see how what you are saying is true.

As far as the Bungie community goes. For the most of it, the following word sums up my feelings about it. This inlcudes many of the mods and intolerant below 18 years of age members:

"Meh"

People do not hold political views or are emotionally invested in whether or not I have a dick. Right now, in fact, I'm getting mad that you're still "presenting" your side of the argument while you've just shown you barely understand it (not the fact that you decided to think up an insult if I can even call it that).

If you seriously cannot understand the meaning of my post, whether or not you're able to discuss your magnum opus on sexual orientation (on a video game forum of all places) is the least of your concerns.
