There's no way that you'd get a job at Bungie doing any kind of art if you did not have a grip on the basics. In other words, yes, you have to be able to draw to model. You have to be able to draw to animate. You have to be able to draw to texture. You have to be able to draw to design UI. You have to be able to draw to design environments.

As for playtesting, it's not as fun as you might think. First, it spoils the game for you, because you're still playing, but you don't get the full glory of the finished game. Second, you're not playing to have fun. You're spending hours, days in a single level, searching for bugs, "Carney holes," glitches, gameflow issues, texture errors, z-fighting, animation glitches, and more. Further, part of your time isn't spent simply playing the game. You're also writing up all your findings.

If you think playtesting is simply "playing," think again.

So to claify to work at bungie you defently need to be able to draw?
And i am aware of the downside of Playtesting, yet it still seams like a good job for me.

I feel like I'm not being listened to.

To get a job at Bungie you have to have talent. Talent comes from a strong foundation. In the case of any art job, you have to be a good artist. Being a good artist means knowing the fundamentals. That means, among other things, drawing.

I don't think you actually appreciate playtesting. Let me put it this way: Imagine playing a game, but not having fun with it. That's playtesting.

the guy is asking questions about what he can do to get a job or possibly a career at bungie. and what do you do? you shut him down and insult him. i find it very sad that you have to hear this from someone, especially someone of a younger age. but grow up.

How have I insulted anyone, here? It must be fun to read into people's words, because you seem quick to do so.

Have I been wrong, yet? Playtesting is not fun. It's not. Someone who wants to playtest because they think it means they get to enjoy a game before everyone else is mistaken, and should be made aware of what they're actually getting into. As for an art-related job, what do you know? It requires artistic talent. Someone who wants an art job, but cannot draw, should not be surprised to find out they're not eligible for any kind of art job.

I've been completely honest. Personally, I'd rather hear the straight up truth, so that's what I give. Would you rather I have said "Don't worry, kid, you're a unique and beautiful flower and you can do anything you want! Why, you could even be president of the world?" He wanted to know, I answered his question. His response, to me, felt like I wasn't actually being listened to, so I reinforced what I had said before. If I am in error in any way, please feel free to point out the exact point at which I go astray. Otherwise, you're just posting to get on my nerves, which, considering that I'm a moderator, is probably not the best move.

Re-read the thread - thrice-fold - and try saying that again

Hard isn't it?

bah

Shame on you all. Shame on Paranoid_Gnome for not listening, and shame on the mods for not having memorised every single news post to reference to people.

Honestly, what would you all do without me?

[sarcasm] I think one of the more notable qualities you'll find in a Bungie employee, not that I’ve ever met one, is an imagination. For instance, it takes a BIG imagination to come up with a crazy time travel twist.

Ah, yes.... and the plot thickens:-) [/sarcasm]

Oi.

If you want an art-related job, take art classes. Don't take any specific kind of art class. Make sure you have a strong foundation in art in general and find your specialty on your own time (that's right, you have to be an artist out of school, too).

If you want a programming job, you have to be able to program. Take computer science classes. Program for fun.

If you want to be a designer, learn design. Web design is a blend of code and art, so you'll need a bit of both.

Bungie does not have a list of "approved" colleges that they look for. In fact, a degree does not actually guarantee a job. It won't hurt to have one, however. Just make sure that you go to an accredited institution, and that you follow all the other advice I've given you.

If you really want to do playtesting, doing some computer science courses in High School would probably help greatly in being able to understand exactly what is going wrong if its a coding error and whatnot.
