Subject: That is so -blam!-

δόξει τις ἀμαθεῖ σοφὰ λέγων οὐκ εὖ φρονεῖν.

Euripides, Bacchae. 480.

The homophobia exhibited by respondents to this thread is quite repellent, as well as that displayed by moderators attempting to censor your perfectly rule-abiding discussion. There is of course no reason why "*censored for decensy*" should be censored. There are a litany of other terms which can be used as insults, and often are, yet are not censored, as you point out.

Still, remember that Bungie is a North American developer, and thus I would not be at all surprised if it was composed of more than a few bigots. Add to this that these fora have a strange resistance to change, and I very much doubt your proposal will ever be implemented.
...No. Stop.

Nobody here is homophobic. And, if they are, it is not represented in any of the posts in this thread as of yet. If anything, you're being a stereotypical, ignorant, and blatantly rude person by insulting a hard working group of people that you don't know by assuming that a handful of them are bigots because they live in a massively large area of land and sea encompassing a good chunk of the planet.

I beg to differ: there are numerous homophobes in this thread. As I say: contortions.

Posted by: CrazzySnipe55
The word has been manipulated by society to be a slang term that is both derogatory and not conducive to a civilized discussion in the manner that it's used in most of the time on internet forums (I.E. "This game is so -blam!-"). If you can't see this, and think that all the people in here are against the attraction of two people of the same sex because they don't want people to have the ability to use the word the way it is used MOST of the time (in an offensive fashion)... then you need to work on your analytic skills then come back and read this thread again.

That word is used offensively and the fact that it is censored is a testament to that offensive use and that constant usage is a legitimate reason to censor it.

Then all potentially insulting vocabulary needs to be censored. Also, I don't accept that it is more frequently used as an insult than as term to refer to a certain s.exual orientation. Please don't try to advise me on how to think: you'll just end up embarrassing yourself.

As if other terms aren't. As I said, there are numerous terms that can be and are used as insults on this website. No one seems in favour of censoring those. I wonder why that might be.

Find me a racial or bigoted slur that is used popularly in society and can be found offensive that is on this site and not censored. You're obviously attempting to skew the facts so that it looks like there's some weird homophobic conspiracy going on at Bungie and within the community when, in reality, the words in the filter were not hand picked and are all generic in nature.

See above. It's curious that I can call you a cockhead, but not be censored, yet someone cannot refer to a s.exual (another ludicrous act of censorship) orientation held by millions. Odd.

You should probably stop bypassing the filter...

Also, that word shouldn't be used to discuss on a Video Game website. You could be one of those people who cites the Flood as a 4chan type thing where anything can be discussed to any extent, but, in reality, Bungie doesn't want things like that discussed on the site so it only makes sense for them to have that word censored when they don't a subject like that discussed (the sex one, not the one about same sex relations).

Also, cockhead is not an overly offensive insult. It's empty. It's generic. It's like calling someone a dick. It's just meant to convey a level of disdain. Could this be accomplished with another word? Sure. But there's nothing super bad about cockhead.

Of course you don't see it as an immature fashion. But that's very much how your entire thread comes off.

Not to me.

No suprise there. You show the same level of disrespect that the OP showed in his original post.

Its still an insult none the less. Honestly, it makes more sense as an insult than using the G word. Yet, it isn't censored, is it? Also, I don't think you read my whole OP. Some of your questions are already answered in there.

Just don't talk about things involving that word, then. There's a million other places you can do that, and it's not like discussion on that topic ever turns out nicely.

OP, I have 2 questions.

1) Are you looking for an answer to a question or a reason for what you see as an issue?

2) If so, do you really believe that there is any answer or reason that will satisfy you?

Oh, no. I could care less about it, in fact. I don't want to discuss it either. I just thought it was very weird and unfair that Bungie would censor that word. I just thought I'd bring it up.

Jew. Note that it needs to be reasonably common, yet not as common as "g.ay" in its use as an insult.

It's just a word which denotes a certain s.exual orientation. Its use is perfectly legitimate. If the complaint is that it can be used as an insult, all words which can be used as an insult need to be censored-like "Jew".

The same can be said for "g.ay". In fact, it's much more mild, especially given its ubiquity-which you acknowledge.

1) I have multiple questions: One is if the users of B.Net think its right/fair that Bungie censors the name of what is really an entire group/culture/population of people just because some people want to use it as an insult, when really, it makes no sense being used in that manner anyway.
Also, why, Bungie censors that word, which at face value and by legal definition is not meant to be used as an insult at all, yet they don't censor of words that are intended to be used as insults, such as; ass, dick, or -blam!-.
I also had questions regarding Halo: CEA, however nobody has yet to address those.

2) An answer directly from someone who could enact such a change would please me somewhat. However I doubt that I will get one. Really, what would please me the most is fair censoring of words. So either the uncensoring of that G word, or additional strict censoring of other words, such as the aforementioned.

This thread is pointless.

This isn't about minorities, this is about you bringing up a stupid argument for the sake of arguing.

It's censored because half the people on this website aren't mature enough to handle a conversation without getting into a piss fight about who is right and who is wrong.

Every thread dealing with homo-blam!-ity devolves into -blam!- vs Straight, Religion, politics, etc.

No, I'm not doing it just to be difficult or anything. It is a subject that deserves attention/change. However, in all honesty, if I wasn't as bored as I am right now/today, I would have never gone on these forums at all just to bring this issue up.

So censor all insults. Censor all terms pertaining explicitly to religion and politics. But that won't happen, will it? Again, I wonder why that might be.

No one has said anything that could portray them as homophobic. Just because someone objects to homo-blam!-ity doesn't mean they are afraid of it.

Again, most of the time the word -blam!- is being used as an insult. The reason it is censored is because without said censor, most threads would be full of people constantly posting how -blam!- stuff is, and how -blam!- other people are for disagreeing with them. That doesn't promote intelligent, focused discussion, does it?

Lastly, the fact the Bungie is HQ'd in North America has nothing to do with the fact that the word -blam!- is censored, and certainly doesn't mean they are bigoted.
In fact, it's quite the opposite, if they were bigoted, then they wouldn't have the word censored.
In fact, there probably are homo-blam!-s that are employed by Bungie.

It is bigoted of you to accuse Bungie of being bigoted just becuase they are set up in North America, though.
Accusing a person or group of something just because they are located in a certain area of the world is bigotry.

So? Every thread can still and still does devolve that way even with the word censored. So, why not uncensor it and just keep the other actual derogatory terms censored. For example the other word that starts with F and ends with G with one other letter in the middle. xD

It doesn't deserve attention, you're giving it attention. The majority here doesn't care that it is censored and appreciates the fact that it is censored. You're asking for change, not us.

You admit to this argument as holding no value? Then why do you continue this argument if not only for the sake of arguing.

Many other terms don't, so let's censor those also. "dick" is a good example.

Grow up. The US is drowning in homophobia. The probability that there is not a significant number of bigots within the company is regrettably small. How on earth is the censoring of "g.ay" evidence that the company is in this respect tolerant?

Kid, I haven't even said whether or not I'm for censoring the word. Just because I didn't immediately jump aboard your self-righteous bandwagon doesn't make me an intolerant bigot. In actuality, I don't give a damn over such a small and petty issue, and neither should you. The world is filled with actual problems that are worth championing and fighting against. Try to find a more noble use of your time than trying to get a single word on a single website uncensored.
