Subject: That is so -blam!-

δόξει τις ἀμαθεῖ σοφὰ λέγων οὐκ εὖ φρονεῖν.

Euripides, Bacchae. 480.

Snipes, he is trolling you. On top of that, your only returning argument is the same thing each time simply reworded with more frustration.

If you're referring to me, I'm not trolling at all, and actually take the issue more seriously than I would most things around here. The poster to which you refer has been most unimpressive, e.g. his accusation that I was trolling or drunk based on lack of attention to another poster's contributions, as established above.

I've had the same thing because it hasn't been responded to. But whatev. I'm out unless an intelligent person would like to actually give legitimate points in favor of the OP.

I've responded to your posts, as far as I'm aware. You've yet to concede that your last accusation was based on a mistake on your part.

Edit: I see I missed one of your responses. Give me a second.

I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

I agree, which is why I am attempting to put an end to the less-than-impressive argument between you two.

You like to twist words to where you are neither right or wrong; a generic "fortune cookie" statement that irritates whoever it is you are directing it to.

Posted by: Heliossoileh1Now you're just making yourself look silly, dude. You should quit while you're ahead.

I could say the same to you, and anyone else who I disagree with. Do you see how that lacks substance?
You're attempting to spin this into some sort of bigoted homophobic conspiracy and bias within the Community and Bungie itself as a company.

Hardly. I just think that the censoring of "g.ay" is a result of homophobia, as is the defence of its censorship in this thread by community members. This needn't imply a conspiracy.

Posted by: CrazzySnipe55
You're also suggesting that because a group of 200ish people (I could be wrong, I'm pretty sure its around there though) live within an area of land that consists of more than 9,000,000 square miles in size, means that there is a high probability that some of them are bigots who had an influence on the profanity filter in some way to get the g-word censored.

Not direct influence. It's more oblique than that. As I say, there's no conspiracy-that'd be a parody of my position.

This is peripheral, however. Whatever the cause of it being censored, it shouldn't be.

Posted by: CrazzySnipe55
But back to my main point, because of all the things I listed in the first paragraph, you're sounding very, very silly. If you don't want to turn into someone who's opinion most people disregard because you become "that guy" who had that theory about the homophobic Bungie conspiracy, then I'd stop now if I were you. I'm honestly just trying to help you out, man.

Yet I don't believe that there is such a "conspiracy"; this is a caricature you've devised with which you hope to discredit my position.

Also, my reputation here is irrelevant to me, and the probability one will even be formed given this community's size and nature is unlikely anyway.

I'm not sure that I'm twisting words, but I know how not to get pinned down in a discussion, especially through the use of good English.

Nevertheless, the arguments in favour of the word's continued censorship have been quite poor. I'd concede that some arguments opposing my view were good had good ones been made. The reality is that none have been.

The only time it annoys me is when I'm having a discussion and the word gets removed making my post or pm completely incoherent.

And yes, it does happen.

Troll or not, I agree with the OP, the way words are censored isn't consistent and it is quite offensive that some words are censored and some words aren't. I'd ideally like to have no words censored but I appreciate that, that's impossible in the real world. I think by stigmatising the use of the word -blam!- by censoring it you only make it more likely people will use it insultingly or with scorn, I don't think it should be censored.

I for one liked how the OP addressed the problem, I liked the use of language and the aggressive combative tone. It seems to me that oftentimes that's the best way to deal with the community, which seems to be terribly juvenile about these sorts of things.

I've yet to see a good argument for this, the only one actually arguing for this was the OP, and he's apparently left the building.

The only arguing going on now is

this guys ^ misguided argument.

I'd say majority rules in this thread, as the only person who was arguing for it is gone, and the person arguing for it now probably has no clue what this thread was about anymore.

This thread holds no more discussion value imo, the only argument Posted by: Heliossoileh1

this guy ^ has is that we're all homophobes for having the common sense that it will be abused. So if anyone else has any pro arguments, I'll be happy to play the con in it.

Whatever I'll take it.

Uncensoring the word won't change user's maturity. People will still find it hilarious to just post, "OP is -blam!-".

You liked the way the OP addressed the problem? Oh yeah, his argument is flawless and definitely the right approach. Had he actually tried to make intelligent conversation in his OP, I might have approached him differently rather than seeing him as oblivious to the obvious reason that the word is censored.

Juvenile? We've been trying to tell him why the word is censored. Look through the pages, you'll find that most of the arguments against this are the same, that should tell you something. It's already there and those complaining are in the vast minority, therefore going in to edit a list that was a generic copy/paste type deal to begin with would be tedious to say the least. And into said list, no personal bias nor bigoted ideals were put by the Bungie staff or the Web Team or the Moderation staff.

Pro Argument: Submitted.

I think it would. If you make a word off limits you make discussion about it much more difficult, if I can't say -blam!- how can I speak maturely about -blam!- issues? I can't even use the word -blam!--blam!- for gods sake, however I'm fairly sure I can use the word bumbandit. Which one makes me sound more mature again?

As for people calling the OP -blam!- all the time, that's flaming and I'm pretty sure there's a rule against that. Giving people back a word doesn't mean people are going to constantly use it, I can use the word dicks all I want but most of the time I don't.

No, no it wouldn't. Making the word available would only increase flaming. This is no place for the discussion of that subject, if people want to discuss it maturely then they can go off-site or to a private group. There's no way a serious discussion could be held here about sensitive topics.

Exactly, so you want to open a gateway to another word that trolls can use?

Why would it increase flaming? People can flame just fine with or without the word -blam!-. People aren't going to be mature if you don't allow them the opportunity to be.

Yes. All I want is for trolls to be able to use the word -blam!-.
