Subject: Would custom avatars improve the site?

Skillet was here and referred to himself in the third person.

Bungie NEEDS to get some new avatars. The ones they have are seen 50 times a day by 20 different users.

Maybe they could do something like this:

You make an avatar...you send it to Bungie and if they like it...they give it to YOU and YOU only! That would let people have custom avies and they wouldn't be..."dirty"...

No. They have said that will never happen.

They will never happen. I have seen that so many times I no longer think about this question.

If I had a custom avatar I'd probably put something Halo related anyways.

This was already discussed in this thread. Recon (I beat him to it) said that they would get flooded with requests. They don't need that.

it all really depends on your veiw i mean people on b.net might be immature and put a penus or some other innapropriate thing but the avatars now are just fine and if you really feel the need to have a custom one create one and send it to the mods :)

No...he was talking about the guy that said that the mods could choose if it was right. I'm talking about sending them TO Bungie...NOT sending them to the mods. BIG DIFFERANCE!

Not really. They'd still have to be reviewed by human beings (or such loose approximations thereof, anyway, that get dragooned into working b.net :P) for an astonishing array of possible naughtiness that can't be caught by automation.

If this was a small forum, for a couple-hundred people or so, then custom avatars might make sense. But there are over 1.6 million user accounts on bungie.net... volume alone would defeat any worthwhile review.

Steve's right; there's not much of a difference. People (regardless of who they are) still have to put up with huge amounts of submitted avatars. Would you rather have Bungie work on new games or seeing if your avatar is acceptable?

The actions of the few make life hard for the many who would have acceptable avatars. It is sad but true.

Achronos actually provided a Penny Arcade comic reference for this topic once...
