Just a summary of my arguments.

Firstly, we've got a canonical problem here.

PRIVATE QUARTERS OF FORMER SHIPMASTER JUL 'MDAMA, BEKAN KEEP, MDAMA, SANGHELIOS: JANUARY 26, 2553 IN THE HUMAN CALENDAR.

...

"I don't have time for this," Jul said. "I have to go to the kaidon's assembly. The Arbiter's going to be here soon."

I was under the impression that the Arbiter returned to Sanghelios on March 3rd, 2553, after attending the memorial service on Earth. Rtas says that he wants to see Sanghelios, this implies that neither of them have seen their home planet for a while.

It implies Rtas hasn't seen his home planet it in a while.

So how can Thel be on Sanghelios in January? That doesn't really make sense.

Now I've heard the argument that Thel landed on Earth and went back to Sanghelios and then back to Earth for the memorial service and then back to Sanghelios... No.

Why not? A treaty cannot be made without the approval, or at least knowledge of one of the civilizations it involves. That would be political (in in Sangheili culture, literal) suicide. It only makes sense Arbiter went back to Sanghelios to tell everyone what was going on. He had to do it himself as well because if he didn't the others could believe him to be non-caring for the people. Really the only reason why this wouldn't make sense is if he were lazy. You're not implying you think him to be lazy, are you?

For Thel to have gone back to Earth, he'd have had to go on the Shadow of Intent, that was the only Sangheili ship at Earth during the memorial service. Rtas says he wants to see Sanghelios again to know that it's safe, so what has he been doing in 2 months then? As Ship Master, Rtas would've picked up Thel from Sanghelios and taken him to Earth, yet Thel escaping from the wreckage of the Dawn on Earth and the memorial service happen in a very close time-frame as we can see from the juxtaposed flashback at the end of Halo 3, so he can't have gone back there.

none of this makes any sense. First off, Intent being the only ship at the services--which in of itself wasn't even confirmed to have taken place on March 3rd anyway, just that the war officially ended on March 3rd--holds nothing on how many Elite ships were present at earth on any other day.

And the juxtaposed flash backs prove nothing. Any amount of time could have taken place between the two events.

So the book is flawed...

My other complaint is the story itself. Thel and Lord Hood want to sign a peace treaty to ensure that there are peaceful relations between humanity and the Sangheili, and yet, Parangosky & ONI are quite content with causing MORE war and committing espionage against the Sangheili. So they're provoking a race that could be their potential and valuable ally... Okay...

u dumd ONI?

Are you reading the same book as me? ONI wants to prevent war, but keep the Elite political machine turned on itself so they can never unify and become potentially dangerous, just as how Jul wants humanity to be exterminated for the exact same reason. It will require the deaths of some Elites, but only a few important ones. We've known from the get-go ONI has agendas that go beyond even the Admirality.

And then there's Halsey. I'm sorry but it just seems like Traviss doesn't quite understand her, we're seeing a completely different character here from what Nylund portrayed in TFOR, FS and GoO. And the worst part of it? It's all for the sake of drama because there's not much else going on in the Dyson Sphere, so there has to be a spontaneous character drama. Halsey doesn't really have any need or motivation to be resentful towards Mendez, she was on perfectly good terms with him in GoO when she knew he was involved in the S-III Project. Why has this suddenly changed? She's basically being demonised for no real reason.

and this is where I think you got an early copy of the book. I read the first chapter as well as CH. 2; what I read had nothing regarding any details on Mendez's feelings towards Halsey, only Halsey essentially being weirded out by the prospect of another Spartan generation she had no knowledge of, and the implications (Read: different attitudes towards her) this could have

I don't know... I'm not all that excited to be honest, everything I predicted seems to be coming true.

No, I personally think, with respect to your opinion, that you want what you predicted to be true.

And I apologize if I seem short tempered. I had a long, confused day, mixed with a short rush of excitement I got when I read about the Infinity being confirmed in Glasslands.

He returned from the ark in december.

My theory :

He returns to Sanghelios in December with Rtas and the rest. Then the ONI-Sangheili innies vs Thel conflict happens.Thel and his followers are victorious and go to Earth in March for the memorial and for a peace agreement with the UNSC.Rtas remarks that he wants to see Sanghelios back if it is safe from Telcam forces.

That's what i think will happen

BTW don't jump to fast into conclusion without reading the full book, 343 and Traviss aren't stupid.

Have faith :)

I agree with this logic and think you put it a lot better than I did!

I do believe ONI is about to engage in a proxy war in order to keep Sangheili society fragmented and wage civil war amongst themselves over those who join humans and those who wish to stick to the ideals of the former Covenant, aka LOYALISTS.

By the way, what is the Infinity? I don't mean to sound stupid since I just jumped on the bandwagon and I haven't read any of the books yet.

Signatures are for squares.

Why doesn't someone just post the complains on 343's forums. They usually respond to that kind of thing. If you pointed out a discrepancy in the dates a 343 employee may give comment on it.

It was originally shown in concept art for Halo 4 at Halo Fest. People who were against the UNSC appearing in Halo 4 said it might not be real since its just concept art, but it was directly alluded too just now in Glasslands.

Roberto, I can go through and copy-paste all the quotes that show Halsey and Mendez as being is poor view of each other (dislike/distaste/distrust/hate, whatever).

There are a surprising amount, and some which make NO SENSE.

If Halsey and Mendez have not seen each other for a good many years, why does she hold the Spartan III's against him? Why does she dislike that he never told her?

Edit: ONI wants to prevent war, by backing a civil war in the elites that could backfire as soon as they find out publicly of human involvement. They want to protect humanity, so instead of backing Lord Hood and Thel in a peace treaty, they want to continue the war by attacking elites and keeping them off balance until genocide can be committed?

It will require the deaths of some Elites, but only a few important ones.

"A man after my own heart," she said. "Very well, I'm asking you all to go and kick the Sangheili in their collective nuts in ways that might seem foreign to you. I want you to sow discontent and strife. They're already infighting and I want to keep that going until we're ready to finish the job. Anyone not keen on that? There's no shame in refusing. I've seen your service records and you've all more than earned the right to say no."
I do not think I even need to say anything.

And this pretty much proves that virtually no Elite respects Humans in the slightest. Their whole race is on a knife edge of recommencing the genocide against Humanity to the point where Thel Vadam himself is distrusted. I was hoping to be proven wrong on that banal idea but nope. I think it is obvious now that 343 are just trying to drag out frivolous plots for no reason. Is no one tired of this tripe yet? Perhaps they just should throw a NOVA bomb at Sangheilios and get it over with now so we can see something else. The Sangheili are getting boring now. 343 ruined them utterly.

And Humanity, the inheritors of the Mantle, begin by attempting the genocide of the Sangheili... What is this garbage? Is this what Bungie really envisioned when they finished Halo 3?

My thoughts exactly Anton.

Though I wouldn't say all of the elites hate humans, they have been shown to by the minority among the leaders now :/ Which is arguably always been true as the leaders are the surviving oldest ones.

It was literally the one bit I didn't think was stupid. I went 'I agree with anton, not all elites will like humans, and some will hate them.' But... The rest just was blah.

I seriously believe there are people here reading this completely wrong. Both Humanity nor the Sangheili really want to eradicate the opposing species. If people read Chapter 1, the former Fieldmaster 'Telcam only wants to restore the religious faith in the Forerunners after it was proven wrong by the Arbiter finding out the truth about the Halos. He also states that they will leave humans alone if they stay out of their way restoring Sanghelios.

And you honestly believe that?

Anton quoted a line from the head of ONI who states ONI wants to wipe out the elites. The meeting of the Elite Kaidons features one or two who roar for wiping out humans right now.

What? He wishes to establish a Theocratic Totalitarian regime that thinks that it should have say in Human freedom of Speech. Lunacy. He thinks that Humans should respect his "Schrodinger's Gods" crap after what his people did for 27 years? War will be the only thing happening after 'Telcam comes to power.

"You blaspheme about the gods. You spread vile lies about them. This must stop."
He also does not like Humanity having colonies in that region of space for some reason. Worlds that Humanity claimed first, but should feel threatened for some reason.

I believe it will be emphasized later that not all Sangheili and Humans want to destroy eachother if the Arbiter and Lord Hood aren't examples of this already.

I am alluding to how the Halo saga is allegorical of reality. There are cultures and religions that clash with others, causing wars. There are also those within them that wish to establish truce just so long as no one (no matter how hard they try) steps on the other person's toes. Nevertheless, a huge war was fought, events transpired to conclude it, and now there are those on opposing sides that wish to make truce, and those that wish to make war. Sound familiar? (e.g. Israel vs Palestine, Communism vs Capitalism). This is all about ideology here, just like it is today.

'Telcam and some Sangheili push for a Totalitarian regime, but that is not what they will get. Some ONI operatives may also fall on their own sword in what is to come in Glasslands. However as most af you know, if you want peace, prepare for war.

Mongo, the difference is this.

The Elite leaders who want to kill humans want to do so because they think humanity will come after them with revenge on their mind and try to kill the Elites.

ONI wants to go after the elites, keep them off-balance until they can be wiped out.

It doesn't matter a SINGLE BIT if the civilians want peace. ONI by itself can cause the war.

That's the worst part, I fully understand and support the Elites wanting to wipe out humanity because ONI's viewpoint is exactly the reason why they want to do so.

I fully agree with you on this. ONI is becoming a rogue agency (if not so already) bent only on ensuring dominance of humanity over the galaxy. Like I said before, this is going to be a dirty little proxy war and 'Telcam will be their puppet. They are almost bent on the politics that will dismantle the Sangheili culture from within.

While it may seem irrelevant that civilians want peace, there are still some serious players in here that advocate it like Thel and Hood. Something is going to happen that will cause the fall of an insurrection against the advocates of a treaty with the humans. This may include killing 'Telcam, even at the hands of the Arbiter.

As always, opinions are welcome. I think it's great that people are seriously breaking this story down and interpreting the different perspectives. I am siding with the Sangheili too and I really hope ONI gets bit hard in the arse later.

I love how, in the first chapter, Halsey references Noble Team. ^-^

The shifts between Earth, Sangheilios, and the Dyson Sphere are a bit jarring, though, with the change of tone in all.

I was not sure, if the community was able to post this, because "Bungie is no longer managing the Halo Universe".

I've already read chapter one, and will soon be starting on chapter 2. Fan will finally be able to know what happened to Dr.Halsey after "Ghost of Onxy"

Interesting thoughts and arguments going on in this thread.

What do you think Bungie would have envisioned? Just curious.

On my own opinion, I think it is setting up for an pretty entertaining story so far. But I really want to see what other users think too. It gives me some direction, heh.
