Here's an idea for Marty, our sound God.

The elite turns to his comrade during CTF and says, "Take the left flank! Go! Go! Go!"
The Spartan, YOU, playing against these two elites is close enough to overhear the exchange. You listen to them through your Xbox Communicator and hear.... "Wrrrg grah grrr wort! wort! wort!"

What would you guys think if you could hear the other team while playing multiplayer but modulated so that you couldn't understand what they were saying? Wouldn't that add to the realism instead of all these Spartans and Elites fighting each other in creepy total silence? (Other then weapons fire and explosions of course)

Elites of course wouldn't hear English when the Spartans spoke (That would be unfair) but they might hear something equally outlandish.

Can Marty pull it off or is it beyond even his ability to sneak it into the already overtaxed Xbox?

lol That would be pretty cool but I dun think he will do it but maybe then again if you think about.. if he uses the same premise as a Loud Speaker (the ones that if you hit a button it changes your voice) Then it might work.

What about when elites and spartans are on the same team? And the teams are mixed up between the races, it wouldn't make much sence then if your own teammates couldn't understand you or if the enemy elites can understand you.

Well, we don't know if they have mixed teams yet. Time will tell. If they don't... this would be cool.

The funny part is... even with the modulation... you can usually still guage excitement level or the like.

Another thought that hits me with the communicator... there are no buttons left. Is the microphone always open? I'd rather hold down a button to speak along with the walkie talkie sounds.

The point would be the enemy hears your commands but backwards. I see three problems with this, even though the idea is totally kick ass. The first is that realistically, the Spartans don't communicate out loud. Big whooop-dee-do, we can have just the Elites do it then.
The second problem is something he touched on, this would tax an already pushed-to-the-limit consol because it would have to record the orders, mod the voice, and then play it backwards, which ties into number three
which is that an order would have to be recorded in full, then played back. This means the enemy team wouldn't even begin to hear the order until it was completed, making the sounds a bit laggy.

I still think a simple voice mask would kick some serious ass. Just morph the voice so badly the enemy can't understand it. But then, you'll get those Halo freaks like me who play the game so much we can eventually understand the language. Then we'll know your orders and act accordingly. The end result would be a pnwage so bad your as... wait, there are minors present! ;-)

I think it would be crazy if they didn't let you mix up the teams. Lets say my best friend wants to play as and Elite and I want to play as Master Chief, are you telling me I HAVE to play against him everytime or that one of us will have to conform in order to be on the same team!

Well, Marty and crew do some amazing sound stuff. They might be able to find a means to modulate it enough so that it's not understandable but there's the other point. You'd only be able to hear it if they were nearby anyways and obstructing barriers would block and warp the sound the same as any other sound that happens in Halo.

Damn Marty's awesome. One of the things that bugs me with these videos we're downloading is that they're not in 5.1 so I can't really appreciate his work.
