bah

I don't want the ghost boarding thing to happen repeatedly. There needs to be a "no backs" rule that says you can't get back into a ghost for two seconds after someone boards it. Otherwise, we'll have two things happen:
1. Endless getting in and out of the vehicle until a rocket-man comes along and ends their misery.
2. People will "vehicle snipe." They'll wait near a vehicle just waiting for someone to get in so they can stael their place.

Right now, it's like tag without the no backs rule; if you don't have a no backs rule, the person you tag can just tag you back, then you can tag them back, and it goes on forever until someone gets sick of it. In Halo 2, if you get sick of it, you're going to get your butt run down by the guy who didn't give up, so I can easily see one of these battles for a ghost going on for a few minutes.

actually, i think bungie will be smart enough to fix this by having the guy being kicked outta the vehicle loose his balance for a couple seconds, and having the 'new ghost driver' *adjust* himself in the seat before he can just fly off, so he's delayed a few seconds....but not just run they guy over, unless highjacking is extremely tough, like everyone *me included* thinks.

just my thoughts

Have you played Halo 2? I wasn't aware.... Stop -blam!-ing about it until you've played it. Just cause it sounds like it would be hell, doesn't mean it is. Have you read ANY of the MANY hands-on impressions? NONE of them complain about any of this. So stop making threads about how this and that is bad. I'm not say it's just you rip, it's mostly others. But until we've got our greasy paws on the game, hold off on judgement.

I agree. Wait and see.

When you kick the other guy out he's thrown about ten feet away. Just accelerate in the OPPOSITE direction. Ghosts have full x and y vector movement.

If anything, tag the bugger with a plasma grenade instead of trying to retake the Ghost. He'll be blown to smithereens and you have a still operable, though slighty damaged Ghost.

Time to eat your words. In case you didn't notice, I'm the guy with the sticky up top that has a link to all the stuff you looked at. Straight from IGN:Should you pull off the jack move, the former driver can quickly initiate a jack move of his own to get the vehicle back because you will be going slow enough for him to do so. Of course once the vehicle has been taken back you'll be in position to pull of another move. This repetitive sequence can easily look like a cartoon or something with players pulling each other out of the driver's seat repeatedly.Although they weren't complaining, and even found it to be amusing, I know I would hate this if it happened. You would say "Don't knock it till you've tried it" but I would say I don't have to eat dog crap to know how bad it would taste.
I know, as it satnds, it would be a problem. I also know Bungie will fix it so it isn't. They know how to make a game, I'm just giving them feedback. They like that stuff you know.

This won't happen - did you see how far they were thrown?

if you don't like doing the boarding thing, don't do it.... just be the guy with the rocket launcher or with the right grenade at the right time :-D
it's one thing to have to eat dog crap and it's another to be upset about a possibility in the game...you don't have to do it...

The boarding looks like fun when you play halo 2 you'll probly fall in love with it

  • 05.13.2004 4:26 PM PDT

But I like driving ghosts. I don't want to fear getting in a ghost because some guy can come up from behind and get in it. Also, it does happen repeatedly, because a guy who played it said it did, and I have no reason not to take his word for it.
P.S. I'll love the boarding thing and use it on every driver that fails to crush me the first time. I just don't want an endless sequence of vehicle boarding to happen.

I actually don't think the boarding will be repetitive after you get into the game more... I mean it will get boring soon to do it over and over again, since it takes the momentum out of the game, and after a while it will only be used on strategic moments.

I know that he said it can happen. But if you read on, it says that it never lasts long, because there is always someone else watching who will shoot one of them. Thus, it's no big deal. And it's possible to get away without this happening, I know, because it's in the 19 second video. Both when the player on screen boards, and when he is boarded, they get away without going through another round. I think multiple boarding only happens when people stick around after successfully boarding, and try to kill the former driver. I bet if you're smart, it'll be rare.

You know what, I'll bet you're right. Watching it again, it would appear that the person playing the Spartan used the boost to get up to speed fast enough so the other player couldn't board. I'd still like to see a "disorientation" time period for the player kicked though. He would have 1 second when he couldn't get in.

Why would you hide near a vehicle and wait to kick them off? That would pretty -blam!- to begin with. Why not just jump into the ghost and blow the crap out of them? To many negative nancys and fair weathered fans on this board and yet not one of us have played.... :-\,

Maybe bungie, during the hundreds of hours of playtesting, simply didn't notice this feature? You know, I realise that they are a company extremely experienced in multiplayer gaming, but maybe they had a lapse into absolute bat-crap stupidity, and simply overlooked this 'problem'.

Or maybe, you have nothing to worry about, because Bungie aren’t as stupid as everyone assumes they are. When kicked out, your flung a significant distance away, so, its the skill level of the driver, or the skill level of the opponent, that results in either retaking the vehicle, or it speeding off. A ghost's boost, and the simple logic of human beings, means that the continual taking and retaking of a vehicle will only happen if both parties are equally skilled, and don’t think to actually just attach a grenade, or shoot the fudge out of each other.

Basically, its possible it can happen, but it wont be an epidemic. Simply because most people aren’t stupid, and wont just incessantly take and retake the vehicle in an endless loop. You'd throw grenade, or shoot the ghost. This is also excluding the most likely scenario, that people will be skilled enough to evade getting their vehicle retaken. IGN only played the game for an hour, so it was bound to happen initially, but after a while people will just get to good at evading a retake.

Whatever the case, everyone should just marvel in how damn cool the game is shaping up to be. Its combat evolved, evolved. If you don’t like it, don’t play it, Neanderthal.

you have enough time to drive away after knocking someone off a vehicle... i'm just worried about boarding a tank because it's so slow.
