Subject: What does the Katana Symbolize?

I just unlocked it but don't understand what it symbolizes. It doesn't mean dedication, because I haven't played the game that long, not even a months worth. What does it symbolize?

-It was originally the most difficult and final piece of armor to unlock, but is now succeeded by Recon armor.
-It's also known as the 'Samurai Sword' and 'Achievement Sword'.

-The Katana closely resembles Ryu Hayabusa's Dragon Sword.

...from various Halo wiki sites.

I always used this armor because it was originally somewhat difficult to acquire, and I thought it looked cool.

I have no idea who or what Ryu Hayabusa's Dragon Sword is or how it corresponds to Halo.

Ryu Hayabusa is the main character of the 'Ninja Gaiden' series. He uses sort of like a tight, black, leather outfit with a mask, and his iconic weapon is the katana sword.

Bungie made a deal with Team Ninja (the creators of Ninja Gaiden). Bungie allowed Team Ninja to use a Spartan in their game 'Dead or Alive 4', as a playable character in their multiplayer mode (think: street fighter). In return, they allowed Bungie to use both the katana (Ryu's) and the Hayabusa Armor, which (especially the helmet) is what Ryu Hayabusa wears in the game.

That's why we have Hayabusa and the Katana in Halo 3. Pretty neat actually.

I would say it's like many other things in Halo and is just for name sake so it is named a famous weapon like other things in the game eg mjnior.

I guess it only makes sense that you would know this.

I run Skirmish!!!

before all the glitches with it, it was a difficult piece of armor to acquire, now it just gets handed out like candy.

You got for unlocking 40 achievements and what ever the original gamerscore was before all the DLC ones.

Now its any 40 out of all of them instead of everyone out there... aka easy as you can get really

  • 10.18.2011 4:41 AM PDT

Halo 2 > Halo 3 > Halo 3 ODST > Halo Reach > Halo CE

Based on campaigns.

Magik Mike

I find the katana a bit retarded. the only thing it's good for is getting killed. If you're crouching behind something and your katana is stick out people can just shoot that.

3 years and only 1 ban, try harder next time noobs.

Well, you used to have to get all the achievments, but now its only 1000g total /Bitter.

Um, no.
There is no hit box extension that follow the katana. You can't shoot it nor stick it. It really isn't any different in that regard than having a sniper or rockets on your back, sticking out/up.

ryu hayabusa is the main character in ninja gaiden. he was also in dead or alive. and there was also an unlockable spartan character for doa3 so it was basicly a trade- doa gets spartan character and halo 3 gets special armour. p.s the katana iis ryu hayabusas sword the "dragon sword".
