Subject: Should we have a "Friend List" for the Forums?

I believe in everything until it's disproved. So I believe in fairies, the myths, dragons. It all exists, even if it's in your mind. Who's to say that dreams and nightmares aren't as real as the here and now?

I've seen other sites incorporate this, so I was wondering if it would work out here?

I guess we could, but what could it really be used for? Stalking people?

Your coup...

And a friends list would be nice but it's not gonna happen.

Trying something once will increace your chances of success, because you tried it. Try someting twice, and your chances increase yet again - seeing as you've done it. Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

I'm sure it could work, anything could work if implemented properly. Personally though, I wouldn't see the point of a Friends List with or without status if it didn't have live chat logs - which really isn't what this website is for.

It would be cool though, then I could stop messing around with MSN on my phone and just come here - even if it too is a pain in the arse. I figure if a Friends List comes though, the App will get it too.

That has been discussed here several times, and people always shut it out, but here achronos said that the reply "This isn't facebook" is invalid, and I support this.

Wicked PEPSI!

Is life worth living?....Well, that depends on the liver'er.

If we had a friends list then it would only be useful if we also had an IM. Or else it would just be used for stalking.

I spend too much time here.. too much time indeed.

I tweet?

Hah, I was just going to link that thread when I saw this one. It's a shining example of why such a thing could work.

And Achronos tells us exactly what such a thread should look like, hopefully this will be it.

A friends list would be pointless unless you could chat with people on it of course.

What do you mean? Bungie.net is a site dedicated to being a gathering place for people who, at one time or another, are fans/players of Bungie games.

That can easily describe a "social network".

Wouldn't it be great if the default response was a discussion of how a friends list might be placed on bungie.net, how that would impact other systems, the social dynamic, groups, public forum, game interaction, etc.? But no, instead, we get "Bungie.net is not Facebook", which, if you really think about it, means absolutely nothing at all. *rolls eyes*

this community wasn't made to be a social network site

Allow me to put it this way: why have a chat feature, when we can have slicker and sweater online game features. I agree that a friends list would fit right in, so please don't misquote me. I said....

It's the "Live Chat Logs" that rubs me the wrong way. That would be another large strain on the servers which could be used for something sweeter.

Oh, I have plenty more. Posted by: Achronos
How about everyone on this board assume that the web team will properly scope our engineering/design resources, and just focus on concepts when talking about stuff like this? Cutting from theoretical development plans that don't even exist is not your job.

I don't see how it is, you said it would be taking away from resources, I quoted something about the concept of discussion without worrying over using too much of them.

Apologies, got distracted and referenced the wrong thing.
That would be another large strain on the servers which could be used for something sweeter.
If you read my post, thoroughly - no glancing - you'll see that if it came down to a Chat Log for a Friends list, or a feature for the new game that utilizes the website and it's Community - I would choose the new game feature every time.

I'd much rather have a slick online Sweater than a Friend's List.

I agree with the game feature over a chat log, but I feel that implementing a chat log and friends list wouldn't necessarily take away from any games.

This is a site for game-stat and file integration, plus forums. This is not a social network. No friends lists.

Whoo.

Posted by: kashinfistJust because "this isn't facebook" isn't a good counter (and something people would most likely use) doesn't mean something that "this isn't facebook" could be said to is a good idea.

Anyway, tabling the Facebook talk because it's not too relevant, I don't like the idea.

Why?
Well it would have no purpose, there would be no point to it.

And no this isn't one of those things which "emblems are pointless to!" is a actual counter arguement, I mean there's no features to make this actually beneficial, what would you do with a friends list? It would just be a purely cosmetic thing, it's not like XBL where you can invite people to party chats, games, etc and it takes forever to type up someone's name for you to send them a message.

No, if you want to look at someone's profile it's usually just to send them a message, and that's something you'd to to friends and not friends regardless, not to mention just typing up their name and searching them up isn't that much more effort, there just isn't really a feature that requires a friends list on this site.
