Subject: Should we have a "Friend List" for the Forums?

Best of random chance

A friends list alone is useless, but if paired with other features, such as IMing, it wouldn't be so useless. The concept of changing the B.net to be more effective shouldn't stop at a friends list.

Posted by: kashinfistJust because "this isn't facebook" isn't a good counter (and something people would most likely use) doesn't mean something that "this isn't facebook" could be said to is a good idea.

Anyway, tabling the Facebook talk because it's not too relevant, I don't like the idea.

Why?
Well it would have no purpose, there would be no point to it.

And no this isn't one of those things which "emblems are pointless to!" is a actual counter arguement, I mean there's no features to make this actually beneficial, what would you do with a friends list? It would just be a purely cosmetic thing, it's not like XBL where you can invite people to party chats, games, etc and it takes forever to type up someone's name for you to send them a message.

No, if you want to look at someone's profile it's usually just to send them a message, and that's something you'd to to friends and not friends regardless, not to mention just typing up their name and searching them up isn't that much more effort, there just isn't really a feature that requires a friends list on this site.

Well then that would work.

I'm not sure if I'd like the change (hating change and all), but I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be implemented along with features relevant to a friends list, I'm just saying that by itself a friends list would be rather pointless.

I agree with the game feature over a chat log, but I feel that implementing a chat log and friends list wouldn't necessarily take away from any games.

Not the games themselves no, but potentially the shipping/developing of website features for the game: File Share, Stats, Bungie Pro - things of that sort.

This is a site for game-stat and file integration, plus forums. This is not a social network. No friends lists.

Hey look, you're talking to someone, and I'm talking to you. We're socializing - as much as anyone that's sitting in a room listening to the voices in their head can be anyway. To boot, we're on a series of tubes connecting us together - pretty sure that's called a network.

Assuming it doesn't affect developing or resources or anything of that nature, would you support it?

I think it would be wonderful to put in cross-platform messaging, if a friend list is incorporated into this site.

You have a friend list, you can message them from Bungie.net through to your friends x-box. They can also send messages back. It be good to see if users want to get together and is an extremely convenient method to do so.

I think this is already possible on xbox.com, so integrating it here probably wouldn't be difficult.

Case and point: don't worry about it. Girls start getting boobies pretty soon, and then you'll have plenty of other things to think about. Being an Inheritor is not a life goal.

Enemies list.

I like this better.

But what would be the point of a friends list? What does it matter if someone is on bungie.net, or if they've posted recently?

Maybe this could work for private groups as people are closer to each other on chapters than the mains.

It's a stupid idea imo standalone, if this were to be implemented, then updates and other stuff would have to be added as well for the friends list to make sense. I honestly wouldn't mind this website changing to some facebook clone as long as I could switch the site over to classic version a la Anniversary Edition. That way I wouldn't be bothered by the new features I think are stupid, and I can come to bungie.net for the same reason I've come for the past years.

Absolutely, I'd be crazy if I said no. Doing something without using time or resources is an extraordinary feat, no matter what we're talking.

If many users expressed that they want a feature, and it's reasonable, I'm confident that Bungie would accommodate, even if it takes a while as to not cut down on anything else.

I just want to see if the user is online/offline by a green or red light. Is that too much to ask for?

I would prefer this to a friends list x100.

That's what I'm saying, a friends list alone is just a terrible feature. If they end up adding anything to make this site more sociable, then I hope they either have it all off automatically and you can turn them on separate, or they have a b.net classic so I can enjoy my regular bungie.net without the stupid features I don't want.

I didn't know, my mistake.

There's been several threads about this. Apparently, Bungie doesn't see a necessity for it.

Anyways, I think it'd be kind of cool, but I wouldn't really care one way or the other.
