I know this has been brought up before, but I really want to hear what everyone else is saying since I am now catching up on everything Halo (sorry been playing way to much COD zombies during my free time at school).
Heres the big question I am asking:
What is everyones take on Halo Remastered?
I recently read a post/poll by Charles128. In it, he clearly expressed his disconcern for 343 changing anything about the game. His opinion was supported by 1 other user, Shadow Krait. I am in no way bad mouthing Charles128, but I do however have a very unbiased opinion of what 343 is doing, and at this point completely disagree with Charles128. I played Halo: Combat Evolved when I was a Sophmore in High School. I was 15 then. That was my only reason for buying an Xbox back in the day, and because of Halo, still remains the only reason I have made any new Xbox purchases recently; recent one being a Kinect when I purchased Reach. I also watched the videos on the remastered versions, I am very happy to see that they are re-doing all the graphics and adding in new features. Luckily they are keeping the original game engine and physics, so ultimately the only thing that is changing, is textures, graphics, and obviously resolution.
Great! Actually, awesome! Goodjob 343 and bungie! and I commend them for doing all the leg work to get their hands on the original game engine and equipment necessary to reprogram the game itself; by this I mean any legal hoops they had to jump through. It takes a lot for a game company to go back and remake a game, especially since they are not doing it by scratch. Every detail of every level has to be looked over, resized (if necessary), redesigned (if it conflicts), and then tested. Lets not even get into the details, that as a current sophmore student at UConn (and no this is not a brag fest about my educational roots), have no idea about.
But let me ask a few other questions for the community.
What was it that made Halo so great when it first came out? This is for everyone that had an opportunity to play the game when it was first released.
If Halo was released for the first time today, and kept its current look and feel, that is before the remastered version changes, would you even consider buying it?
How many kids do you know now, even have an idea what Halo is? I'd hope this answer is 0, but hey, you'd be surprised. This question will also help answer the next.
Lastly, and this corresponds to the question about you considering buying it; with all the games that are out today, with their high tech graphics, and astonishing levels of eye candy, what do you think is the best way to honor such a classic game?
I understand what people mean when they say nastalgia. But honestly, if you want to feel some level of nastalgia, go play the orignial, on an original xbox with that big a$$ clunky controller that I used 10 years ago. Then maybe you will understand why the level of innovation available to us today, should not go to waste. :)
If you read this, thanks for taking the time to do so, and also, thank you for letting me increase my crappy, near level 0, english skills.
