Don't -blam!- with Kerser!

I don't really know where to put this, it is mostly a question for Bungie themselves. The other day I was in my lounge room, on my computer, then all of a sudden I started to hear the Halo 3 theme song "Never forget" or "Unforgotten". I was like "Did I leave Halo 3 on or something". I was looking around and my Xbox was not on, I was like "What the hell". Then i turned the TV up and it was coming from one of those pet saving shows. A dog was going in for a operation and this song was playing in the background. I pissed myself laughing, seriously.

So, do you guys at Bungie like lend your music to people and you get payed or something? Or just lend it out for free?

My understanding was there were certain, erm...deeds that had to be done to obtain privilege to use. And since I want to keep things at least PG, I can't really go in to detail.

Per audacia ad astra. Halo Reach | Destiny

I remember an episode of Top Gear using Peril (IIRC) as background music. It was funny and really unexpected.

Rev.6-8 And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.

yea, i was watching TV the other day and thought i heard some halo music playing on some commercial, i thought to myself surely it was just some music that sounded like it, but i guess not.

Doesn't MS own the rights to everything Halo now? We all know how much MS loves licensing the right to things...

GGGGGGggggggggggggGGGG

A few years back, I heard a song from Halo 3 being played as the theme song for some Football show. So, yeah. I guess.

Chief vs the scarab? I find that hard to believe to roundhouse boot the scarab's figurative emotion out of the gaming zone.

I would assume so.

Music does have separate copywrights pertaining to composition and performance though, so it's possible that there's a split in the rights to the music some way. I do doubt that this would be the case here though as I would assume that Miscrosoft would just own it all anyway.

Hello, I'm Mr AwesomePizza. I like pizza and I'm a man. Reasoning for the name. I like to listen to the classics of music, write poetry, play video games, and much much more. I'm always down for a nice chat, so please hit me up for some conversation.

I think the music would belong to Marty considering that he made it.

Yeah, I was just thinking the same thing. I think you're probably right.

Although the details of any such arrangements are certainly not public, I think it's safe to say that anytime you hear Marty's music in a commercial or other advertisement/promotion, it's probably not being used on "loan."

I think it's pretty standard for composers/writers to only retain the performance rights to works they created for a studio. In other words, Bungie (now Microsoft) would own the mechanical rights to the song but Marty could veto any live performance of his music that he wants. He would basically retain the control over the sound (original performance) of the music, but not how it's implemented; as illustrated by a commercial.

There's also the possibility that I'm just completely wrong. :)

I understand nothing because my life is a conspiracy.

Wasn't there a thread about "Winter Contigency" being on Bakugon(?) or whatever?
